12 free things to do on Father's Day in the Twin Cities

12 free things to do on Father's Day in the Twin Cities originally appeared on Bring Me The News. It doesn't matter if you're making last-minute plans or have things schemed out; there are heaps of Father's Day activities that can be done for free. Here are a dozen activities you can do for free over Father's Day weekend. The festival along the Mississippi River is back this weekend. It'll have art vendors, food trucks, live music, and other performances throughout the weekend. On Sunday, the free live music includes Couch Potato Massacre, Radiator Girl, Willows, Dan Israel, John Magnuson Trio, Shug E, and others. June 14–15, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. — along West River Parkway from N 4th Avenue to S 11th Avenue, Minneapolis The Eagan art park and NAMI Minnesota are hosting a free festival with creative workshops and activities, including drumming, rock stacking (yes, really), forest bathing, mobile metal casting, and other hands-on art projects. Plus, you're in the art park, so, take a stroll and enjoy some sculptures. June 14, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. — Caponi Art Park, 1220 Diffley Rd., Eagan Minneapolis has an incredible number of free concerts in its parks throughout the summer. That includes Father's Day, when you can see the a cappella group CANTUS (2 p.m.) and Just Dave and the Rockin Allstars (5:30 p.m.). June 15 — Lake Harriet Bandshell, 4135 W Lake Harriet Pkwy., Minneapolis The market is back this summer with live performances, art, a beer garden, a lion dance, and, of course, a ton of food. It's free to enter, but if you're heading there on Saturday, it may be worth going early, since the largest of Saturday's many "No Kings" protests is taking place nearby. To accommodate, the market is opening early on Saturday. June 14, 12–11 p.m. and June 15, 2–10 p.m. — 425 Rice St., St. Paul Bloomington's Sunday Funday series is hosting "a vibrant celebration of 50 years of Hmong resettlement and powerful contributions to Minnesota's cultural landscape." The day is loaded with live music and dancing, as well as a couple of food trucks. June 15, 5–8 p.m. — Bloomington Civic Plaza, 1800 W Old Shakopee Rd., Bloomington Got a cat dad? Head to the inaugural Hamline Midway Cat Tour, which is a bit like the Wedge Live Cat Tour that's held in Minneapolis each year. You walk around the neighborhood with neighbors and say hello to cats. It's exactly what it sounds like. June 14, 10 a.m. — starts at St. Columba Church, 1327 Lafond Ave., St. Paul The Minnesota Latino Museum is hosting a party around its "Alebrijes" exhibit on Raspberry Island, which opened on May 19. Saturday's party includes live mariachi, a performance from María Isa, art activities, puppet-making, and food. June 14, 12–5 p.m. — Raspberry Island in St. Paul Dad love board games? There are game "nights" that can scratch that itch. Tower Games in Minneapolis has a Magic the Gathering gathering, Rail Werks Brewing Depot in Columbia Heights hosts a board game night every Sunday, and there's even a tabletop game get-together at the Maple Grove Library with games on hand and no experience required. Various locations The 98-year-old pianist is a Twin Cities legend. He's still playing blues and jazz classics all over town every week, including his Sunday residency at Palmer's Bar. June 15, 5 p.m. — Palmer's Bar, 500 Cedar Ave. S, Minneapolis It's a St. Paul treasure, to be sure. For a suggested donation, you get access to the Como Zoo, which has its polar bear program, giraffe feeding, and seal show on the schedule for Father's Day, among other activities, on Sunday. Open daily — Como Zoo & Conservatory, 1225 Estabrook Dr., St. Paul Get inspired with a stroll around the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden or through the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Maybe the journey will even be so inspiring that you'll want to let dad head to the Hosmer Library's Zine Club to make a zine (they've got all the materials you'll need). Various locations Unsurprisingly, breweries are throwing dad-themed hangouts. That includes Surly Brewing (11 a.m.–5 p.m., which will have music, beer, and food; Brühaven, which will have BOGO drinks for dads, a paint and sip class, and a food truck; and Boom Island Brewing, where dad's first pint is on the house from 12–7 p.m. Various locationsThis story was originally reported by Bring Me The News on Jun 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

Peoria Heights celebrates first-ever Sunday Funday with Pickleball and live Music

PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. (WMBD) — A new kind of Sunday tradition kicked off this weekend in Peoria Heights as BS Marketing hosted the first-ever 'Sunday Funday.' Many people gathered at Pearl Companies' parking lot at 1200 E Glen Ave in an energetic mix of pickleball, music, and community vibes. The event drew a lively crowd from across the region, offering a laid-back atmosphere focused on outdoor fun and social connection — with zero pickleball experience required. Running from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the event featured a casual tournament, live entertainment, yard games and a variety of local food and drink vendors. 'This event is really about getting people outside, moving, and having fun — whether you've ever picked up a paddle or not,' said Beth Stewart, owner of BS Marketing. 'Have fun. Get active, get outside. Just move. Move and have fun.' Pickleball was the star attraction, with a tournament designed to welcome everyone from complete beginners to competitive players. 'It's so adaptable to anybody,' Stewart added. 'We have kids out here playing. We have people that — there's a first-timers bracket, so we have a coach that can talk about crash course rules, all the way to competitive. And it's just something that anybody can do and have fun.' Sunday Funday highlights included: A no-experience-necessary Pickleball Tournament, with paddles, balls, and beginner coaching provided Live music and classic yard games Food trucks and local drink vendors, including Feels Like Ohm and Oliver's A friendly, social atmosphere — welcoming singles and groups alike Entry was priced at $50 for pickleball participants and $10 for a social pass. With strong attendance and positive feedback, BS Marketing is already hearing calls for a repeat event. If the turnout and community enthusiasm are any indication, Sunday Funday could quickly become a staple in Peoria Heights' outdoor event lineup. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Topgolf CEO talks value as consumer spending tightens

Topgolf Callaway (MODG) is planning to split this year into two separate companies. This summer, as Americans tighten their spending, Topgolf will focus on value-conscious consumers with deals like half-price golf Monday through Thursday. Topgolf CEO Artie Starrs joins Catalysts to discuss what the company will look like after the Callaway split and how they plan to grow. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Catalysts here. Topgolf looking to attract value conscious consumers this summer with deals, as Americans pull back on spending due to economic uncertainty. This comes as Topgolf Callaway Brands remains on track to separate into two separate companies this year. Joining us now, we got Artie Starrs, Topgolf CEO and my morning brief co-host Brad Smith. Artie, great to speak with you. Thanks for making the time. Want to get your take on the state of the consumer, of course, but first, walk us through what Topgolf's business is going to look like after this split. What are you anticipating? Well, first of all, Brad and Melissa, thank you so much for having me. Uh, after the split, we, we believe we're going to be an extremely strong company just like we were before. Both businesses were strong independent businesses before. We're excited about the, you know, the focus that each business will be able to have on, on the specific things that we do, in the case of golf equipment and apparel, uh, golf clubs and fantastic shirts and things. And in the case of Topgolf, the amazing experiences that we bring to life in our venues every day that our play makers bring to life. So we're, we're extremely enthusiastic about, uh, about the separation and, and look forward to updating your audience on it as the rest of the year evolves. Artie, within that, I wonder what the forecast for growth looks like from here. I've been to a Topgolf experience across six different states, multiple types of, you know, different premises that they're on, but, and, and never send a video to our team because obviously they will figure out a way to make sure that it lights up the screen. But, you know, at the end of the day, these are highly replicable experiences that you're able to bring forward. But is it at a premium right now, knowing the type of land that needs to be secured, knowing the type of resources, and the staffing as well right now? Yeah, so we continue to see, uh, significant opportunity for new venues. You, you mentioned very well, Brad, the, our, our venues are, are highly repeatable. So the, the types of sites that we look at and what we build, we're able to build the same foot on the same footprint and, and provide the same fantastic experience. I think in this environment, what, what we're actioning for the summer is bringing value to our players' lives. You know, we value is always important, but at this moment in time, we've launched Sunday Funday, which is for families, which meets families where they're at. We have Topgolf Nights or TG nights so that, that nightcap or after dinner on a Friday and Saturday night where groups can get together and have a fantastic time at Topgolf. And then, uh, next week we'll be launching an advertising campaign where Monday through Thursday, um, half off golf at Topgolf. I mean, what's better than that? So, uh, filling the venues up is our priority. So we see a lot of growth in that. The, the testing of these value initiatives have gone extremely well to driving traffic. So we're excited to meet players where they're at this summer. You know, that kind of gets into our, our next thought here, which is what you're seeing in the pulse of the consumer right now, those who kind of look at this as both an experience economy play, but also a food away from home, a, or even on the corporate side as well. I know you run events. So all those things kind of married together here, what are you seeing in that pulse of the many different types of consumers that Topgolf engages with? Well, players are looking for great value, and the, the question I posed to our team and our marketing agency a short while ago is like, why would you just eat? Why would you just do something when you could do it all at, at Topgolf? So we've, we view an experience at Topgolf is where you can have an active live entertainment experience where you're part of the action. We have unbelievable food and beverage. We hear it from time and time again from our players that they are pleasantly surprised at how great the food is. And what makes it all tick is our playmakers. We call our team members playmakers because they make play. And when you gobble that all together, uh, we're seeing our value scores improve. We win on fun and atmosphere and overall experience. And, you know, we're extremely optimistic that whether it's an experience economy or an out-of-home, uh, eating economy, we're there for it. Sign in to access your portfolio
