16-year-old suffers concussion after getting beaten up by bullies in front of teacher
Photo: Vecteezy (for illustration purposes only) MALAYSIA: A 16-year-old secondary school student was reportedly assaulted by several others in front of a teacher at a school in Sungai Petani on Monday (July 21). The attack left the student unconscious and hospitalised with serious injuries, including a concussion and trauma to his left eye. According to Sin Chew Daily, the incident took place after the teenager returned to his classroom after an eye examination and was confronted by three to four classmates. The boy, who had sat down to read a novel, was allegedly provoked and harassed by the group. The victim switched seats multiple times to avoid confrontation, but the taunts turned physical after one boy snatched the novel from his hands. The student was then punched in full view of a female intern teacher. Several other students then joined in the assault, beating the victim until he lost consciousness. Medical examinations later confirmed that the boy suffered a concussion, periorbital hematoma bruising around the left eye, and traumatic uveitis. Doctors have advised the boy to rest for at least three days. In the aftermath of the assault, the parents of one of the alleged attackers reportedly approached the school in an attempt to reach a private settlement with the victim's family. However, the proposal was firmly rejected. The boy's parents have since lodged a police report. The victim's older sister, who attends the same school, told local media that her brother had been bullied for over a year. She revealed that he had previously had his pants pulled down by classmates multiple times but had brushed it off as 'harmless joking' and chose not to report the incidents. Sungai Petani District Police Chief confirmed on Tuesday (July 22) that police have opened an investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. As of now, no arrests have been made. Mr Zheng (transliterated from Mandarin), the victim's father, expressed his appreciation for the swift response from the school and the police. Speaking briefly to reporters after attending a school hearing earlier in the day, he said he was encouraged by the school's promise to strengthen student safety measures. However, he made clear that the family would not be dropping the case. Under Malaysian law, a person found guilty under Section 323 may face up to one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000 (approximately S$606), or both. Boy climbs handrail in moving train as father does nothing, despite fellow commuters' unease
Photo: TikTok/_liyaa04_ MALAYSIA: A young boy's dangerous behaviour aboard a Malaysian train has sparked widespread concern after a fellow passenger captured the incident on video and posted it online. The incident occurred at around 8 p.m. on Jul 17 during a train journey from Sungai Petani to Butterworth. In a short video posted to TikTok by user @liyaa04, a barefoot boy is seen running around inside the train carriage before climbing onto a handrail near the door, despite repeated warnings from nearby adults. The passenger told Channel 8 that she was alarmed by the boy's antics and stood up to look for a responsible adult. Eventually, she approached the child's father but received no meaningful response. 'I told the boy not to do that, but he ignored me,' she said. 'When the train door opened, the boy came down from the handrail, rushed to the door, and put his hand in the middle. Fortunately, he pulled his hand back when the train door closed.' Liyaa admitted she recorded the incident out of growing unease and said that other passengers were also concerned, and some began filming too. According to the footage, the boy appeared to have little regard for the warnings issued by adults, and his father's apparent indifference to the situation has fuelled public outrage online. Out of jealousy, Form One girl tied and gagged in school toilet by classmates in Sg Petani
SUNGAI PETANI, July 20 — A Form One female student was allegedly tied up and gagged by two schoolmates in a secondary school toilet here, in what police suspect was an act of bullying driven by jealousy. The 13-year-old was found with her hands and feet bound using a necktie and her mouth gagged with a handkerchief last Monday. 'Both suspects, who are also 13, admitted to committing the act out of jealousy,' BuletinTV3 wrote quoting Kuala Muda police chief Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan yesterday. 'Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are currently being remanded under Sections 323 and 324 of the Penal Code.' Both Sections cover 'voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means' and its punishment. The incident reportedly came to light when the victim's mother, waiting outside the school at 6.30pm, became worried when her daughter failed to appear. She and a school security guard began searching the premises and found the girl in the toilet. The victim was taken to hospital for minor injuries to her legs and hands, and for trauma treatment. Her mother later lodged a police report over the incident. This comes as Mara chairman Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki urged yesterday for a united push to recognise bullying as a crime and end its normalisation as harmless pranks.
