Bulk waste generators that don't sort waste at source will be fined in Noida
Bulk waste generators which will not segregate waste at source will be imposed a penalty of ₹ 500 starting July 1, the Noida authority has decided. Noida, India- June 05, 2025: Pile of garbage on the road of Atta Market Sector 27, in Noida, India, on Thursday, June 05, 2025. (Photo by Sunil Ghosh / Hindustan Times) The order comes after the authority had earlier this week directed bulk waste generators to handover only dry waste to the collector, and the wet waste must be processed into compost for recycling, officials said. The authority's health department is organising an awareness workshop for bulk waste generators including apartment owners association, hotels, restaurants, hospital and nursing homes to improve sanitation services so the city can perform better in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2025, officials said. Further, if the bulk waste generator will not set up a compost making unit, the authority will stop collecting their waste from July 1. 'We've advised them several times in the past about waste segregation, and setting up of compost making units. We have warned them earlier too. It's time they cooperate so Noida can perform better in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan. If they fail to do so, they will have to pay the fine of ₹ 500 from July 1,' Indu Prakash Singh, officer on special duty, Noida Authority, said. According to Solid Waste Management Rules, any entity producing over 100 kg of waste daily is classified as a bulk waste generator and is mandated to process wet waste through composting. The authority on Thursday held a workshop in Panchsheel Balak Inter College in Sector 91, attended by owners of hotels, restaurants, hospitals, schools, colleges, apartment owners' associations, and other bulk waste producers. The authority had also organised this workshop on June 14 at the same place, appealing the bulk waste generators to comply with the rules or face penalty. Experts at the event urged stakeholders to segregate dry and wet waste and highlighted that composting can be done easily on-site. In the previous years, Noida ranked 324th in 2018 Swacch Survekshan contest, 150th in 2019 (1st in Uttar Pradesh), 25th in 2020, 4th in 2021 (7-star garbage-free city), and 5th in 2022 (recognised as a 'self-sustainable city'). In 2023, Noida ranked 14th on national level and received a five-star rating in garbage-free and water-plus (wastewater recycling) categories.

GREATER NOIDA: The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has decided to allot a 100-acre land parcel to Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Welfare Trust (EVMWT) that will make EVs, officials said on Thursday. Yeida said that a start-up manufacturing EV batteries for two-wheelers, including Royal Enfield, will be allotted 10,000 sqm in the 206-acre Electronics Manufacturing Cluster-2 (EMC-2) in Sector 10. (Sunil Ghosh/HT Photo) The authority issued Letter of Intent (LOI) on Thursday after the agency (EVMWT) demanded it for the land, as they have got multiple manufacturers who want to develop an integrated project near Noida International airport. The authority assured them of providing land in Sector 8. 'The EVMWT will set up a dedicated cluster for EV autorickshaw and two-wheeler production, along with component manufacturing. The land acquisition work is currently in progress in Sector 8. The LoI issued for the 100-acre allotment is subject to approval of the Invest UP Empowered Committee, state policy guidelines, and other applicable regulatory norms,' said Yeida chief executive officer (CEO) Arun Vir Singh. 'The Trust has informed the authority that over 150 units associated with it intend to set up manufacturing facilities. This initiative is expected to provide a major boost to the region's manufacturing sector,' the CEO added. Yeida said that a start-up manufacturing EV batteries for two-wheelers, including Royal Enfield, will be allotted 10,000 sqm in the 206-acre Electronics Manufacturing Cluster-2 (EMC-2) in Sector 10. Havells has already been allotted 50 acres here as the anchor company, and three other major firms have also secured plots. 'Neenjas Electric has been issued a LOI for manufacturing electric vehicle chargers, LED lighting panels, and related solar-based technologies in Sector 10. Founded in 2021, the start-up is based in Noida and operates manufacturing units in Greater Noida,' said Singh. Last week, Dixon Technologies secured 22.5 acres in EMC 2.0, becoming the third company to join the hub. Officials said Dixon has received the LOI to set up a manufacturing unit for mobile phones, consumer electronics, telecom equipment, lighting products, and white goods. Approvals were also issued to two other companies—Ascent-K Circuit and Aurionpro Toshi Automatic Systems—for setting up units under the central government's scheme. The 206-acre cluster has seen strong interest from top industrial players, officials added. 'The land acquisition process in Sector 10 is also ongoing. The EMC 2.0 project was formally approved by union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada on Wednesday. Earlier, it received in-principle approval from the MeitY (ministry of electronics and information technology) during the 7th project review committee meeting held in April,' the CEO added.

Noida adopts Mumbai's redevelopment model, customises it for EWS and leasehold group housing societies
Noida's new redevelopment policy marks a 'progressive shift' in urban renewal, drawing inspiration from Mumbai's model but adapting it to meet Noida's local requirements. Noida's new redevelopment policy draws inspiration from Mumbai's model but adapts it to meet Noida's local requirements. (Representational photo) (Photo by Sunil Ghosh / Hindustan Times)(HT_PRINT) Like Mumbai, it incentivizes developers by allowing a higher Floor Area Ratio (FAR) and the sale of additional units. At the same time, it ensures that existing residents benefit from upgraded, more spacious homes and are provided with temporary accommodation during reconstruction, say real estate experts. However, the key distinction lies in its focus. Unlike Mumbai's broad, city-wide redevelopment framework, Noida's approach is more targeted and phased. It specifically prioritizes the redevelopment of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) units and leasehold group housing societies, with Requests for Proposal (RFPs) issued on a project-specific basis. Noida's redevelopment policy In its 218th board meeting held on June 14, the Noida Authority approved several initiatives, including the redevelopment of aging, dilapidated high-rise group housing towers. Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M told Hindustan Times, 'The board has given in-principle approval to the redevelopment of old, dilapidated high-rises so that users of these projects can avail themselves of better basic facilities and modern infrastructure within their buildings.' Under the scheme, existing EWS flats will be demolished and reconstructed. Developers will be allowed to sell additional housing units but must ensure that original residents receive larger, improved flats. They are also required to provide temporary accommodation to residents until the new homes are ready for possession. The Authority aims to redevelop old housing projects built by the Noida Authority in Sectors 27, 93, and 93A. Cooperative and private developers who have old low-rise buildings can use a 3.5 floor area ratio instead of the old 2 FAR to build more flats and go vertical if they can purchase additional FAR for the redevelopment, Lokesh M told the newspaper. This is what experts have to say about Noida's redevelopment policy 'Noida's new redevelopment policy is a progressive step. While it is closely modelled on Mumbai's approach, it is more customized to Noida's specific local needs. Like Mumbai, it incentivizes developers by allowing higher FAR and sale of additional units while making sure that the original residents benefit from more spacious, upgraded homes as well as temporary accommodation while reconstruction is underway,' explained Santhosh Kumar, vice chairman, Anarock Group. 'The key differences are that Noida's focus is on EWS and leasehold societies, and the Requests for Proposal are project-specific. This renders it more targeted and phased than in the case of Mumbai, which uses a broader, city-wide redevelopment framework,' he said. Concurs Abhishek Singh, director, V3 Infrasol, Noida's redevelopment policy is a forward-looking move that addresses both urban renewal and infrastructure optimization. From a legal standpoint, it offers a clear framework for title regularization, transfer of rights, and stakeholder consent, key aspects that led to delays earlier. Technically, it allows for the upgrade of aging structures, improved safety codes, and sustainable design practices. The policy encourages efficient land use, better density management, and integration of smart infrastructure, he said.
