Giants Legend Eli Manning Out on Ownership Stake: 'It's Too Expensive For Me'

In February, the New York Giants announced that they were exploring a sale of a non-controlling, minority stake in the franchise, with former team quarterback Eli Manning among the initial names mentioned as a potential suitor. However, one can now erase Manning from the buyers' list. "Basically, it's too expensive for me," Manning said about purchasing a stake in the Giants in an interview with CNBC Sport. "These numbers are getting very big ... a 1% stake in something valued at $10 billion, it turns into a very big number. I love the Giants, and I think it is deserving of that valuation. There will be people that want to go for it, and I was kind of along for the ride. It really was a matter of just some complications with the fact that I'm doing broadcasting. I wouldn't be able to talk to the players. I coach in the Pro Bowl. I do a high school football camp where college guys come. "There was going to be a lot of conflicts, and it was going to affect my day job, so I kind of had to pull out of the Giants deal, but still, obviously, I'm here and have access and still very involved in the Giants organization." Hall of Famer Michael Strahan, who played his entire 15-year career with the Giants (1993-2007), with whom he won Super Bowl XLII, has also been a reported suitor to purchase a percentage of the available stake in the franchise. Originally the sole possession of the Mara family, the Giants, who were founded by Tim Mara in 1925, sold a 50% stake in the franchise to Bob Tisch in 1991. Since said year, the Mara and Tisch families have each had a 50% stake in the team, with John Mara and Steve Tisch the current primary co-owners. As for Manning, New York traded up to select the signal-caller with the No. 1 pick in the 2004 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. A four-time Pro Bowler, Manning helped the Giants win Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI, with the quarterback winning MVP honors for both title game victories over the New England Patriots. Manning, who spent his entire 16-year career with the Giants (2004-19), is first in franchise history with 57,023 passing yards, 366 passing touchdowns and 117 wins. New York recently traded up to select another quarterback from Ole Miss, moving up to the No. 25 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Jaxson Dart. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Super Bowl champion shares concern for Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' elite status

During a recent show, ESPN Radio host and former NFL defensive lineman Chris Canty explained his belief that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes needs a more productive 2025 season to remain amongst the elite at his position. "Mahomes is incredibly accomplished and the best player in the sport, bar none. We are one more average season by the numbers from Mahomes, from having a conversation about who the best quarterback in the NFL is, not who has the best resume, but who the best quarterback in the NFL currently is, the last two years." said Canty, "Patrick Mahomes had 27 touchdown passes, 26 touchdown passes this past season, and less than 4,000 yards passing. I mean, it was an average season by his standards." Before his career as a sports radio host, Canty was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2005 NFL draft and played for the New York Giants. As a member of New York's highly praised defensive line, he helped the team win Super Bowl XLVI over the New England Patriots in 2011. "People don't because they're in the Super Bowl; they're getting to the championship rounds. People don't want to talk because they're going on deep playoff runs," said Canty, "If the Kansas City Chiefs find themselves in a situation where they're not in the Super Bowl championship games, and Mahomes has less than 30 touchdown passes. He has the kind of turnovers that we saw. We're talking about him having 15 to 20 turnovers, and then all of a sudden, it's going to become a question of who the best quarterback in the NFL is. Now listen, for my money, if I'm starting a team, it's Patrick Mahomes over everybody else because this guy is a proven winner, and to me, at quarterback, that matters more than all of the numbers." The two-time league MVP finished 2024 with 3,928 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Last season was his first as a starter without 4,000 passing yards.

Will Blackmon joins the cast of Good Morning Football

The ever-changing cast of Good Morning Football has undergone another change. Via former NFL defensive back Will Blackmon has joined the cast for the upcoming season. A fourth-round pick from Boston College in 2006, Blackmon spent four years with the Packers, two with the Giants, two with the Jaguars, and two with the Commanders. He last played in the NFL in 2016. Blackmon was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI champion Giants. He had served on a rotating cast of contributors following the departure of Akbar Gbaja-Biamila after one season. Blackmon did enough to get the full-time gig. The show has been in a state of flux for most of the past year, with a surprising move of the production from New York to Los Angeles (and a 5:00 a.m. local start time) and the departure of multiple members of the cast, including Jason McCourty and Peter Schrager.

New York Giants have lowest overall team rating in Madden 26 beta

The New York Giants aren't very highly regarded around the NFL these days. Nine double-digit loss seasons in the past 11 years will tend to do that. At some point, reality spills over into fantasy, and there's no better venue to gauge that than in the popular video game, Madden. In this year's version (beta) -- Madden '26 -- the Giants are the lowest-rated of the NFL's current 32 teams. Giant fans should not be surprised based on their team's performance over the past decade. They've qualified for the postseason just twice over that span but have not been considered contenders since winning Super Bowl XLVI in February of 2012. Madden ratings go from 0 to 99. The Giants have just one player with a rating over 90: Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence (93).

New York Giants great Osi Umenyiora credits Michael Strahan for his NFL success

New York Giants great Osi Umenyiora credits Michael Strahan for his NFL success After selecting Penn State product Abdul Carter in the 2025 NFL draft, the New York Giants have the best defensive line since the days of Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI. At least on paper. Of course, the Super Bowl XLII team had a strong defensive line that included Hall of Famer Michael Strahan playing opposite Osi Umenyiora. Umenyiora, who is in the Giants Ring of Honor and is now working to promote the game of football in Africa, recently spoke with The Athletic and discussed the influence his teammate had on his career. "The thing about football, honestly, is, as good as you are, I think that there's some things that people don't truly understand about the game," Umenyiora said. "If I hadn't gone to the New York Giants with Michael Strahan, I wouldn't have been the player that I was. He taught me so much about football that coaches just can't teach you. "There's so many things you learn about the game just by watching other people who are at that level. And so me going into that locker room and seeing Strahan, and seeing some of the things that he was doing, I just couldn't wrap my head around how good he was. And so I had to learn. "And he taught me and then I took so many things from his game and implemented them into my game, and that's what took my game to the next level." Umenyiora and Strahan made for one of the best pass-rush duos in the league at their peak. Umenyiora is sixth on the Giants' list of all-time sack leaders. Umenyiora was drafted in the second round of the 2003 NFL draft and played the better part of his career surrounded by talent on the Giants defensive line. After playing with Strahan for the first five years of his career, Umenyiora continued to play alongside Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul. The impact that Strahan had on Umenyiora comes as no surprise. In fact, when the Giants drafted Kayvon Thibodeaux in 2022, Strahan was quick to offer his services as a mentor to the rookie. Ideally, the Giants' current defensive line can have the chemistry of Strahan and Umenyiora and lift the rest of their fellow teammates on the defensive line.
