Tom Brady reacts to Scottie Scheffler's viral comments: 'Part of the same pyramid'

Scottie Scheffler turned heads earlier this month when he revealed that being the best golfer in the world is not what "satisfies" him. Ironically, those comments came just days before he won the Open Championship, his fourth major. But he meant it from a good place, saying that he much prefers to be a better husband and father than a golfer. However, the comments caught the wind of Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl winner, and he disclosed his thoughts on separating personal and work life (that task seemed impossible for him in his final years, as he later got a highly publicized divorce during the 2023 season). "As part of his answer at Media Day, for example, Scottie said he'd rather be a better father and husband than a good golfer. And my question is: Why are those mutually exclusive? Sure, they're different blocks on the pyramid, but they're part of the same pyramid. They're connected!" Brady wrote in his newsletter, via Yahoo Sports. Brady added that Scheffler could parlay his golfing into "being a great father." "For instance, I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family. I chose to do it by playing football. My dedication to the sport, the hours of practice, the moments when I was laser focused — those were times when I believe I was doing the best possible thing for my family and my kids, by prioritizing my profession and teaching, by example, what it takes to be really good at your job, what it takes to follow through on commitments, what it takes to be a great teammate; and showing them, also by example, that work is a big part of all of our lives," Brady wrote. "Remember, your children are watching everything. They see what you do in every aspect of your life and how you do it. Reading bedtime stories and helping them with homework are not the only ways to be a great parent. And neither is winning Super Bowls or MVPs. Being a great football player didn't make me a great dad, but how I became a great player certainly had an impact — from showing up day in and day out, to doing whatever it took to get better, be successful, be a role model, and to provide." Scheffler said that if "golf ever started affecting my home life," he would be done playing "for a living." "This is not a fulfilling life. It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart," Scheffler said. What is fulfilling, certainly, is the prize money Scheffler has won since last year, raking in over $45 million (not included the $25 million bonus from winning the FedEx Cup).

Shannon Sharpe fired by ESPN: Why he wanted network to wait after lawsuit settlement

Shannon Sharpe said he is "at peace" with the end of his run at ESPN, but he does have one nagging issue with how the dismissal was handled. The Hall of Fame tight end and media commentator is disappointed news of the network's decision to move on from him couldn't hold until after his brother's induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. Sharpe, who had made twice-weekly appearances on ESPN's "First Take" since 2023, revealed this on his "Nightcap" podcast on Wednesday, July 30, and confirmed that he learned his time at ESPN was over earlier this week. Sharpe said his only request was that the network wait until Monday, Aug. 4, to release the news. His older brother, longtime Green Bay Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, is being enshrined in Canton, Ohio as part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2025 on Saturday. Shannon and Sterling Sharpe are set to become the first pair of brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Shannon Sharpe was inducted in the class of 2011. ESPN "did what they feel they needed to do and I'm at peace with that," Shannon Sharpe said. "But I just wish guys, I just wish this thing could have waited until Monday because I hate the fact that I've overshadowed my brother. The first two brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and this is what the headline is going to be for the next couple of days." ESPN has yet to publicly comment on Sharpe's status since The Athletic first reported the network's decision to cut ties with him on Wednesday, July 30. The split between ESPN and Sharpe occurred less than two weeks after Sharpe settled a $50 million lawsuit related to sexual assault and battery accusations by an ex-girlfriend. Sharpe last appeared on ESPN in April, stepping away after the lawsuit was initially filed. But he publicly denied the allegations, calling it a "shakedown," and maintained his relationship with the accuser was "100% consensual." Sharpe said at the time he planned to return to ESPN's airwaves when NFL training camps began ahead of the 2025 season. The settlement in Sharpe's case came to light on July 18 when Tony Buzbee, the attorney for the woman identified as "Jane Doe" in the court filing, announced the sides had reached a resolution and the lawsuit would be dismissed. No details of the agreement were released. The woman accused Sharpe of sexually assaulting her twice, in October 2024 and January 2025, after previously engaging in the intentional infliction of emotional distress. She said Sharpe became violent over the course of their relationship and recorded their sexual encounters without her consent. Sharpe never faced criminal charges in the matter. Sharpe, 57, retired from the NFL in May 2004 after a 14-year career in which he won three Super Bowls and became the first tight end with more than 10,000 career receiving yards.

Chiefs rookie training camp standout could be game-changer for Patrick Mahomes

The post Chiefs rookie training camp standout could be game-changer for Patrick Mahomes appeared first on ClutchPoints. The biggest key need of this offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs was addressing the offensive line, which was thoroughly obliterated by the Philadelphia Eagles in last year's Super Bowl. Kansas City has gone all-in on doing just that, including drafting offensive tackle Josh Simmons with their late first round pick this past April. While it's still just training camp, the early returns on Simmons have been hopeful, to say the least. ' Rookie OT Josh Simmons has been a standout through one week of camp — and it could potentially shift the competition to the right side, where Jaylon Moore and Jawaan Taylor rotated today, per local reports,' reported Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on X, formerly Twitter. 'Simmons has been holding firm on the left.' Earlier this offseason, the Chiefs also reaffirmed their commitment to the offensive line by signing Trey Smith to a record-breaking extension that will keep him with the team long term. A potentially huge development If the reports are true that Josh Simmons has been making waves at training camp, that could be scary news for the rest of the NFL. The only area where the Chiefs aren't necessarily considered to be elite is at that position, and if Simmons could change that, then Kansas City could be arguably the most complete team in the NFL heading into next year. In all likelihood, it would take more than just one rookie for the Chiefs to turn around what looked to be a listless offensive line in their Super Bowl demolition at the hands of the Eagles. In that game, Patrick Mahomes was constantly under duress, and making matters even more embarrassing was the fact that the Eagles only sent four rushers after him for the entire game, and were still able to get home with consistency. Despite that setback, Kansas City has won three straight AFC Championships and two of the last three Super Bowls, and they will look to get their dynasty back on its championship track this season. It looks like they may be relying heavily on a rookie to help them do so. Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce team up with exciting food message

The post Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce team up with exciting food message appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce are already embedded in KC culture and history after all they have accomplished on the gridiron. They have each won three Super Bowls, earned multiple All-Pro selections and are considered two of the greatest to ever play the game. Their respective legacies, which will be prominently displayed in Canton, Ohio at the Pro Football Hall of Fame five years after they retire, will forever resonate with the Heart of America. But the two Chiefs stars are not content. They want to make their mark in the food industry as well. Mahomes and Kelce are co-owners of a modern steakhouse called 1587 Prime, which is set to open in downtown Kansas City, Missouri in the near future. Before this big venture officially gets off the ground, the teammates, friends and now business partners got to sample the merchandise. The sensational duo cut into some juicy steaks and savored everything they could get on their plates. The restaurant's official Instagram account conveyed their excitement afterwards. It did not take long for the two entrepreneurs to chime in. 'Coming soon..!!' Mahomes commented on the post. 'Man that food was better than I could have imagined!!' Kelce exclaimed. 'KC get ready baby!!' These franchise pillars are juggling plenty this summer, as they prepare for the 2025-26 NFL campaign. Mahomes and Kelce are both seasoned pros who know how to approach training camp, so fans should not worry about this new endeavor becoming a distraction. Regardless of the inconsistencies they have each weathered on offense the last couple of seasons, the Chiefs legends usually come through when it matters most. They will look to achieve the same success in the restaurant world. 1587 Prime, which combines the players' jersey numbers, is located inside the Loews Kansas City Hotel. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are partnering with Noble 33 to bring what they hope is the next big thing in KC. The expectations are high, but these guy know a little something about handling pressure. ESPN cuts ties with Shannon Sharpe following settlement of sexual assault lawsuit, AP source says

Hall of Fame tight end-turned-broadcaster Shannon Sharpe will not return to ESPN, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The decision comes less than two weeks after Sharpe resolved a lawsuit that accused him of sexually assaulting a woman during their relationship. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the decision has not been announced. Sharpe's last appearance on ESPN was in late April, when the lawsuit was filed in Nevada. No details of the settlement were released. The lawsuit had sought $50 million. The 57-year-old Sharpe called the accusations 'false and disruptive' at the time they were levied and hoped to return in time for the NFL season. Instead, ESPN opted to move on from the brash four-time All-Pro tight end who won three Super Bowls during his 14-year career. Sharpe joined ESPN in 2023 and signed a multiyear contract in 2024. He served as a panelist on the network's morning show 'First Take.' Sharpe has been a staple on TV and social media since retiring in 2003. He joined CBS in 2004 as an analyst on 'The NFL Today' studio show before leaving in 2013. Three years later, he joined forces with Skip Bayless on the FS1 sports debate show 'Undisputed.' Sharpe left in 2023 after Bayless took a shot at Sharpe's NFL playing career during a debate a couple of months earlier. Sharpe still has his 'Club Shay Shay' and 'Nightcap' podcasts with former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011, Sharpe retired as the NFL's all-time leader among tight ends in receptions (815), yards receiving (10,060) and touchdowns (62). Those records have been broken. Sterling Sharpe , Shannon's older brother, will be inducted on Saturday. ___ AP NFL:
