‘More money than sense' – Fans spot unexpected benefit of ‘$1 MILLION ringside suite' for Taylor vs Serrano 3 at MSG

FANS were less than impressed after spotting an unexpected benefit of '$1 million ringside suites' at Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 3. 1 American singer-songwriter and actress JoJo performs the national anthem before the undisputed super lightweight championship fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden Credit: Stephen McCarthy/Sportsfile Boxing fans flocked to Madison Square Garden for the all-female card, with some particularly wealthy attendants having the chance to sit at ringside. Not only that, but the "ringside suites" - which set users back an eye-watering $1 million - came with a large TV through which the card could be watched. However, this was questioned by fans on social media, who wondered why it was necessary to have a TV when the action is right in front of them. One said: "Why do you have that when you are right towards the ring? No sense" Read More on Katie Taylor A second posted: "Why the TV?!?!?!" while a third asked: "Why do they need a tv?" A fourth said: "What rubbish, why have the screen there when you're right beside the ring??" A fifth added: "So spend $1 million to sit front row to just watch the fight on TV" A sixth posted: "Hahaha a seat and a tv wtf do you need a tv for ag ringside more money than f***ing sense" Most read in Boxing And a seventh said: "Did they really pay 1 million for that seat wtf lol." There was plenty of hype going into Saturday morning's action, and the undercard lived up to the billing. UK Netflix Users Warned: £1,000 Fine for Watching Live Events Without a TV Licence In the opening bout of the official undercard, Ellie Scotney put on a stylish performance to beat Yamileth Mercado to become unified super bantamweight champion. After the fight, the Englishwoman paid an emotional tribute to Georgia O'Connor, who died from cancer in May. She said: "I have had a real testing few months. As everybody knows, I lost my dear friend Georgia so tonight is for her. "Her dad is over there and I'd like everyone to give her a round of applause. "She was 25 years old, she was a fighter, and she lost her battle to cancer but tonight I made sure her name was remembered in Madison Square Garden." In the follow-up bout, Shadasia Green spoiled Savannah Marshall's return in a tumultous split decision victory. The gutsy veteran overcame a slow start to win via split decision to become unified IBF & WBO Super Middleweight champion. The judges scorecards were indicative of a topsy-turvy bout, with Green edging out Marshall 95-94, 93-96, 96-93.

With Savannah Marshall being out of the ring since 2023, she now makes her return to boxing on a historic all-female card on Netflix. She told SunSport: "To be honest, me and Shadasia were meant to fight a while ago. "So for it to follow an all female bill and not only that on Netflix, is massive. "The numbers of Netflix pulls in beats Sky, TNT, it blows all those out of the water, so there's no bigger platform. I'm over the moon really." About her opponent, she said: "She's got my belt. It's not really hers, is it? She's not really a world champion because she didn't beat the champion. "You can't really call yourself a world champion, you never boxed a champion."

Netflix to stream Canelo Alvarez title defense in September

Netflix to stream Canelo Alvarez title defense in September Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez will return to the ring in September to face undefeated Terence Crawford in a bout streamed live on Netflix. The battle for the unified Super Middleweight title will take place September 13 in Las Vegas, according to a news release from the Saudi Boxing Federation, which is promoting the match in partnership with UFC chairman Dana White. 'I'm super happy to be making history again and this time on a Riyadh Season Card that will be broadcast on Netflix," Alvarez said in the release. "On September 13, I'm ready to show once again that I am the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.' Alvarez will take a 62-2-2 record into the fight. Crawford is 41-0 with 31 knockouts. The bout comes roughly 10 months after Netflix rode a wave of massive public interest in its production of Jake Paul's unanimous decision over Mike Tyson last November, which tallied upwards of 65 million streams. However, Netflix's first foray into live boxing also suffered from a rash of technical glitches that drew widespread frustration and criticism from viewers. The streaming giant also pulled in another 65 million combined viewers on its two NFL broadcasts on Christmas Day 2024. But perhaps more significantly, the glitches that plagued the Paul-Tyson bout were largely corrected. Netflix's says its live coverage of Alvarez vs. Crawford will be available to its more than 300 million worldwide subscribers at no extra cost.
