Alibaba to roll out ‘Super Saturdays' event as China's on-demand delivery market heats up

Alibaba Group Holding will roll out a programme called 'Super Saturdays' over the next 100 days to lure more consumers to its platform, while escalating a price war against Meituan and in the mainland's on-demand delivery services market. Under Alibaba's instant commerce brand Taobao Shangou , 'Super Saturdays' would offer consumers up to 188 yuan (US$26) in subsidies for the purchase and delivery of low-cost goods such as milk tea and breakfast meals, according to a report by state-owned financial newspaper Securities Times. Alibaba owns the Post. Alibaba declined to comment on the new programme. Details of the initiative were still subject to change, according to sources with knowledge of the matter. Meituan earlier rolled out coupons offering milk tea for free. on Friday said it would offer 100,000 servings of crayfish every night at a fixed price of 16.18 yuan from 6pm until 2am. Alibaba's latest programme reflected the intensifying price war in China's quick delivery services market, where aggressive discounts and freebies are the norm. While concerns have been raised about the price war's impact on the revenue of the rival firms, China's instant commerce market was forecast to surpass 2 trillion yuan (US$279 billion) in sales by 2030, according to data from the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Kenny Rogers' Twin Sons Justin and Jordan Are All Grown Up in Rare Photo from Their 21st Birthday: 'Impossible to Believe'

Kenny Rogers' sons are all grown up! The late country singer's team shared a photo on his Instagram on Tuesday, July 8, in honor of Rogers' twin sons Justin and Jordan turning 21. In the photo, the two could be seen sitting behind two matching chocolate cakes, which had an Oreo cookie in the center and candles that denoted the year they were turning. In the rare photo, the twins smiled next to each other as their mom, Wanda Miller, stood behind them, smiling. "It's virtually impossible to believe, but Kenny & Wanda's wonderful young men, Justin & Jordan, celebrated the Big 21 yesterday!" the caption read. "Please join us in wishing them an incredible year and long, healthy, prosperous lives for decades to come! -Team KR." Alongside his twin sons, he shares Carole Lynn Rogers, 66, with ex-wife Janice Gordon; Kenny Rogers Jr., 61, with ex-wife Margo Anderson; and Christopher Cody Rogers, 43, with ex-wife Marianne Gordon. Back in 2023, Justin and Jordan spoke with PEOPLE about the loss of their beloved father and how they keep his memory alive. 'I used to be bullied a lot. I'd come home crying and my dad would say, 'Just keep being yourself. You're very funny,' ' said Jordan. 'Every day I still live up to that.' The twins were just 16 years old when the singer, 81, died in March 2020. In the years since, they've maintained the traditions they established together, like Super Saturdays, a weekly boys-only trip that included breakfast at McDonald's, the car wash and a stop at Chuck E. Cheese. 'I remember all the fun memories we used to have at Chuck E. Cheese,' said Jordan at the time. 'We still go to that location and we sit at the exact same table that we used to.' Added Justin: 'I miss everything about him. He was a really fun dad.' In 2023, the late "The Gambler" singer's team shared a photo of his twin sons graduating from high school. "Kenny always said 'Friendships come and go, but families are forever.' Indeed," read the caption, showing the smiling twins in matching purple caps and gowns. "Kenny & Wanda's twin sons, Justin and Jordan, graduated from high school this past Friday. Please join us in congratulating them on this landmark achievement!" the caption continued. "Way to go, guys! Have fun and enjoy the ride…and may all your dreams in life come true!" Read the original article on People

Deans: Barbarians out to rattle Boks in historic Cape Town clash

Barbarians head coach Robbie Deans has full confidence in his international stars ahead of their enticing Cape Town clash with the Springboks. Speaking on Heart FM's Super Saturdays with Jeremy Harris , Deans praised the Barbarians' pride, history, and player quality as key motivators. He emphasized the importance of playing with intent against the reigning world champions in their home country for the first time ever. 'These players are proud men who carry proud histories,' said Deans. 'They don't want to tarnish their reputations on the field.' He said they aim to present a genuine challenge, not just for the Barbarians jersey, but in respect for the international stage itself. The match, set for Saturday, 28 June at Cape Town Stadium, marks the Barbarians' first game ever on South African soil. It's also the ninth meeting between the sides and their first since a thrilling 31-31 draw at Wembley Stadium in 2016. Deans acknowledged the Springboks as the 'greatest team in the game' and believes the Barbarians must rise to that standard. He said, 'They will respect the Springboks, but they won't want to spend the day chasing them all over the field.' With limited time to prepare, Deans must quickly unite a high-calibre squad featuring legends from Ireland and New Zealand. Included in the line-up are Irish stars Peter O'Mahony, Cian Healy and Conor Murray, alongside All Blacks Sam Cane and Shannon Frizell. 'The timing's tough, but we'll put together a combination built on passion and respect for the Barbarians opportunity,' Deans stated. He noted that while preparation time is short, commitment and camaraderie will be the foundation of the team's performance. HISTORY, CAMARADERIE AND RESPECT AT THE HEART OF OCCASION Deans views the upcoming game as more than a contest — it's a celebration of rugby values and lifelong rivalries turned partnerships. 'It's unique – first time ever in South Africa, and it brings together players who've been opponents for over a decade,' he said. With retiring greats like Peter O'Mahony captaining the side and former foes uniting, Deans says the event will be truly special. 'For Peter and Sam to play side by side … it reflects what rugby is – tradition, respect, and mutual admiration,' he concluded. 'Super Saturday' of surgeries to tackle wait times

A hospital team offered what it called a "Super Saturday" of 47 surgeries to tackle patient waiting lists. West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, had 154 people on a carpal tunnel surgery waiting list towards the end of last month. Carpal tunnel syndrome causes tingling, numbness or pain in the fingers, hands and arms due to pressure on a nerve in the wrist. The NHS said Super Saturday on 22 February reduced the list by 30.5% which Dr Michael Dunne described as a "brilliant" effort. Super Saturdays are part of the hospital's 12-month programme to reduce waiting times. On the day, the teams made used of all three operating theatres in the day surgery unit with more than 20 members of staff involved. "Carpal tunnel syndrome can be an extremely achy and painful condition... severely affecting everyday life," Dr Dunne, a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, explained. "It is brilliant that through the efforts of our waiting list and clinical teams and a quick procedure, we can give so many people their lives back, helping them regain their independence and return to doing the things they love most." The carpal tunnel surgeries came after two other Super Saturdays earlier in February for patients with eye conditions. West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust said more were planned "across a range of specialities" before the end of March, while another for more carpal tunnel patients was scheduled for 29 March. Nicola Cottington, chief operating officer for the trust, thanked staff involved. "This is another example of how we're innovating to provide our patients with the care they deserve when they need it most," she added. "These minor surgical procedures are ideal for high-volume weekend working, which also releases capacity during the week for those patients requiring more extensive orthopaedic surgery."
