Singer Sangeeth on 'Chotta Mumbai' re-release and ‘Nombaram Kalayum Naalam Nee': The response has been overwhelming, I'd call it nothing short of a miracle
Mohanlal's 'Chotta Mumbai' is experiencing a resurgence, particularly the song 'Thala,' where singer Sangeeth's brief stanza has captured widespread attention. Sangeeth, a former Super Singer winner, expresses his excitement over the overwhelming response to his lines, which he describes as a blessing. Another song from the film, though initially cut, is also gaining popularity on social media. In Mollywood, it's becoming a trend for evergreen films to make a comeback and create waves once more. From Devadoothan to Manichithrathazhu, these classics continue to offer unmatched cinematic experiences for film lovers. Now, joining that list is Mohanlal's 2007 hit Chotta Mumbai. But this time, it's not the film itself stealing the spotlight—it's a song, or more specifically, a single stanza from it that's topping the charts all over again. Yes, you heard that right. In the film's iconic high-energy track Thala, there's a brief four-line segment that completely transforms the mood of the song—thanks to the soulful voice of singer Sangeeth. As the track resurged in popularity across social media, we caught up with the former Super Singer winner to hear his thoughts on the overwhelming response. 'No words… I'm truly overwhelmed by the response. It feels like a real blessing. The film is being celebrated again, and the song—especially my lines—feels like pure bliss. Those four lines… that's where Sangeeth lives in it,' the singer shared with excitement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The singer, who recently watched the film during its 4K re-release, shared that he was deeply moved by the audience's reaction in the theatre. 'I watched the movie at Kavitha Theatre, and when the song came on, it turned into a full-blown celebration. People were singing along and completely immersed in the moment—it was overwhelming. Experiencing the song, along with the background score, in such enhanced sound quality was truly something else. All credit goes to music director Rahul Raj ," he said. Reflecting on his experience recording the song, Sangeeth revealed that it came as a complete surprise to him at the time. 'Soon after winning Super Star, I got a call from the channel about a singing opportunity. I assumed it was for some show. But when they told me it was for a Mohanlal movie, I was beyond thrilled. I went to the studio to record Poonilamazha Nanayum, and it went well. Just as I was about to leave, Rahul Raj asked if I'd like to try singing a small stanza from another song. Why would I say no? So I sang that part too. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine those four lines would be celebrated like this years later. The full song was sung by the legendary Shankar Mahadevan , and for someone like him, those lines would've been a breeze. But by sheer luck, Rahul wanted to try it in my voice. That song gave me a life,' he said. Not to forget, there was another song in the Chotta Mumbai album—a romantic track sung by Sangeeth and Sangeetha Prabhu. Although the song didn't make it to the final cut of the movie, it has recently found a second life on social media, especially gaining traction on Instagram reels. 'Thanks to social media, this song didn't go completely unnoticed. Even though it wasn't included in the movie, it got attention on FM stations during the film's release. But now, thanks to Instagram, the song has made a comeback. Fan-made videos have breathed new life into it. I feel truly blessed—it's rare for an artist to receive recognition all over again for something they recorded years ago. I'd honestly call it a miracle,' he concluded.

Issai Mazhalai, city's first professional music troupe for children completes 25 years
On Sunday, the celebrations were not about musician Abaswaram S. Ramjhi or his musical journey with his rock band Frustrations Amalgamated or light music troupe Abaswaram. As Ramjhi or Ramakrishnan himself said, 'it is about the success of my children, who have evolved into talented musicians in their own right.' His Issai Mazhalai troupe – the city's first professional music troupe for children — completes 25 years on May 14. He chose to mark the day by reminiscing about how parents would travel by three buses to bring their children to the training camps; the concerts they sang at weddings, temples; television programmes and memorable local and foreign trips. 'We had the opportunity to meet and perform in front of the then President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who spent over two hours listening and appreciating the music of the children. When we did not have money for the tickets, the then Railway Minister from Tamil Nadu gave us free tickets,' he recalled. Speaking in his inimitable style, he had the audience in splits sharing untold tales from his travels with the children. Carnatic vocalist and disciple of Padma Chandilyan and Suguna Varadachari, Vidya Kalyanaraman said that the event was an opportunity to tell their Uncle that they were all very grateful for the opportunities and experiences that they got. 'He usually does not like such encomiums. Our childhood has been very special thanks to him.' Musician and playback singer Haricharan thanked Manjula Choudhry and the parents for supporting and caring for them. He said Mr. Ramjhi meant the world to all Issai Mazhalai pass outs. 'You have been a spark in all our lives. Your whole family including Shobha aunty have been inspiring and giving us opportunities.' Musicians Bharat Sundar, Super Singer winners Sai Charan and Ajish, vocalists Sowmya Ramani Mahadevan, Apoorva and Anahita, Erode Anantharaman, Abilash Giriprasad, Rohini Aravind, and Morsing Vidwan Sai Subramaniam were present on the occasion.

19-year-old Pravasthi Aaradhya gets bullied after she alleges harassment from singer Sunitha on TV show Padutha Theeyaga
19-year-old singer Pravasthi Aaradhya shocked everyone by posting videos on Instagram, accusing the judges and production team of Padutha Theeyaga Silver Jubilee Series of harassment, bias, and body shaming. She singled out singer Sunitha Upadrashta, in particular, for being biased against her and claims to have been bullied by her fans after she decided to expose some behind-the-scenes instances on the TV show. (Also Read: MM Keeravaani says Oscar-winning Naatu Naatu from RRR is not his 'best' song: 'Global recognition has come…') In the video Pravasthi posted online, she claims that despite winning Star Maa's Super Singer in 2024, she decided to participate in Padutha Theeyaga Silver Jubilee this year for better exposure. She also claims that when she took part in the show, when SP Balasubrahmanyam was alive, she had a completely different experience. Calling out Sunitha, she said, 'Sunitha garu always looked disgusted whenever I came on stage. She also badmouthed me to Keeravaani garu about my talent. When she said that, my earpiece was plugged in, and she didn't know it.' Pravasthi then stated that lyricist Chandrabose was 'initially appreciative' of her, but he soon changed too. As for music composer MM Keeravaani, Pravasthi claims she was hurt by some of the comments made on the show that she felt were intended for her. 'He was very biased towards melodies and his compositions. When I got eliminated, he looked at me and commented on how he disliked singers performing at weddings. Everyone there knows I do that due to my financial situation. He also used the word 'chakiri' (colloquial word for job) when describing the singers who work for him, which felt off.' Pravasthi also stated that while she was advised not to make the video, she has no hope of making a living in the industry anymore and hopes no one else has to face what she did. 'They treated me like I was worthless and cracked jokes about my body. I did not expect this from them at all because I have participated in numerous singing shows. The production often pressured me to wear sarees and tie them low to expose my navel. Even the costume designer told me to my face he couldn't dress me better because of my body. My self-esteem and confidence have taken a hit.' A post shared by @pravasthi_aaradhya The young singer also told Big TV that Sunitha addressed her mother as 'nuvvu' (informal you) instead of 'meeru' (formal you) and it was disrespectful. She also alleged that the show was scripted, with songs being changed last minute to control some eliminations. Pravasthi also told ABN Telugu that when her mother tried to get her off the stage because she didn't like how everything went down, host SP Charan (SPB's son) told her she couldn't leave till they allowed her to leave and tugged on her hand. After Pravasthi put up the videos, she addressed those claiming she's only creating a fuss because she got eliminated from the show. She said, 'Eliminate ayyanu ani nen ivanni cheyyatledu. (I'm not doing this because I got eliminated) I've gotten eliminated from other reality shows but I've never made a scene. Ippud enduk chesanu ante anyayam ga chesaru kabatte nen antha matladenu. (I am only speaking out now because I was treated unfairly)' She put up another post on her Instagram stories, asking Sunitha's fans to back off. Her post reads, 'To all the Sunitha garu fan accounts who are bullying and threatening me, first meeru celebrities ni gods laga treat cheyyadam aapandi. Valu kuda mee laga naa laga humans ee. (first stop treating celebrities like gods. They are humans like me and you).' She added, 'Don't discredit my feelings because you like their voice or talent. Talent veru oka human heart veru. Naku aina experience nenu cheppanu. (Talent is different from the human heart. All I've done is share my experience) So please stop bullying me.' Sunitha, MM Keeravaani, Chandrabose, SP Charan and the production team, Gnapika Productions, have yet to respond to Pravasthi's allegations.
