Review – Titans 2025 Annual #1: The Story of an Amazon

Titans 2025 Annual #1 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: DC has had to reshuffle the past of a lot of its characters as they refine their continuities – some gett major changes, like Supergirl. But none have had a trickier knot to untie than Donna Troy – who has had a tangled path even before any reboots. Remember, she wasn't even supposed to be her own character, originally starting as a young Diana in flashback stories before being accidentally added to Teen Titans. But she's stood the test of time, and now DC brings in one of Wonder Woman's most iconic creators to tell the definitive Donna Troy story, retelling her origin and bringing her into the modern day – and Phil Jimenez absolutely hits it out of the park. This isn't just the best Donna Troy story, it's the best Titans story in decades. The return. Via DC Comics. This story starts with a framing segment of Donna in the present day as she gets shocking news – her biological father wants to meet her. This book goes with the origin of Donna being a child who was orphaned in a fire, saved by Diana and brought to Themyscira, where she was adopted by Hippolyta. This wasn't a smooth process, and there are some really touching segments dealing with Donna's struggles to adjust. After she becomes Wonder Girl, she meets with the Titans for the first time and forms the bonds that will define her life. There's a fantastic segment where she manages to be one of the only people to make Batman see that he might possibly be wrong, and the annual really delves into the connections she has to each Titan. Terry Long is barely touched on, thankfully, but Donna's late son Robert looms large, and there are some incredible musings on grief that hit hard. Without spoiling anything, the final segment dealing with the identity of Donna's father is one of the most powerful things I've read in comics in a very long time, and comes from the same deeply personal place that Jimenez's stunning Pride story came from a year ago. This one-shot might wind up being an Eisner winner, thanks to both Jimenez's incredibly powerful, personal writing and his stunning art. This is a franchise that hasn't had any real big wins for a long time, still struggling under damage done in events two decades ago, but this book is a masterpiece. Teen Titans: James Gunn Offers Disappointing Update for DCU Movie

James Gunn has offered an update about the DCU movie. In March 2024, it was reported that a Teen Titans movie was in development at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. Written by Ana Nogueira, the film will be part of Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU, which officially kicked off in December 2024 with Creature Commandos. Safran said about the project, via Variety, in February 2025, 'The script's not ready yet. I mean, I think we said that Ana Nogueira is writing it.' 'We haven't said that,' Gunn said. 'No, I think it was out there,' Safran said. 'I think it was out there.' 'It's out there,' Gunn said. 'It was something that Ana was really impassioned about, and she turned over an amazing script for us. She's fiddling with that now, but it's definitely not a finished script.' What did James Gunn say about Teen Titans? On Threads, Gunn clarified that when he said 'she turned over an amazing script for us,' he was referring to Nogueira's script for Supergirl, which arrives in 2026, rather than the Teen Titans movie. Nogueira is now writing the DCU Wonder Woman movie. While Jeff Sneider's The InSneider recently reported that Nogueira 'has already handed in her first draft of Teen Titans, and owes DC a revision, which she'll work on while writing Wonder Woman,' Gunn says the Teen Titans script 'doesn't exist' at this point in time. In another comment, he reiterated that he has 'never read a script' for Teen Titans and seemed to confirm that the project is on the back burner for now. Neither the DCU Teen Titans nor Wonder Woman movies have release dates at this time; however, Wonder Woman is expected to come first, as Gunn recently said it's a priority for the studio at this time following the success of Superman. No director is yet attached to the project. Originally reported by Brandon Schreur at SuperHeroHype. James Gunn Confirms 9 DC Projects in Active Development but THE AUTHORITY Might Be in Trouble — GeekTyrant

James Gunn recently teased what's happening at DC Studios, and while there's a lot to be excited about, one highly-anticipated project might be stalling. In a recent TikTok interview with Straw Hat Goofy, Gunn enthusiastically listed several DCU projects that are actively moving forward. 'We got some really cool stuff happening. We got Supergirl coming out in a year, we got Lanterns coming out [in] probably less than a year. That's some good stuff, that's some really good stuff… 'We're making Clayface right now, and that is, oh man, the script by Mike Flanagan [is] so, oh, so good. Straight horror. And we're working on The Brave and the Bold , Wonder Woman , The Batman 2 with Matt Reeves, we're working on that, we're working on Sgt. Rock .' That's a total of seven projects Gunn rattled off without hesitation. Add to that some 'Krypto shorts… little cartoons for kids that are really fun' and a second season of Creature Commandos , which Gunn calls a 'real big priority,' and that brings the current count to nine. But what about The Authority ? When asked about the status of the WildStorm team's DCU debut, Gunn's response was... less enthusiastic. 'The Authority, that's… That's not going so well?' He said that with an awkward pause and laugh, and that might speak volumes about where that project currently stands. As for The Brave and the Bold , Gunn recently gave a small update. 'There's really no new updates,' he said. 'I mean, we're working on a script. We have a screenwriter who's hammering away at it. I'm very involved, and so, you know, we'll see what happens next. I wish I had more news for you, but I don't.' One project Gunn didn't explicitly mention but is definitely coming soon is Peacemaker Season 2, which drops in August. The whole TikTok clip played with a running gag where John Cena, fully suited up as Peacemaker, is completely ignored by Gunn. which is a fun nod to the next chapter that's just around the corner. There might be more unannounced projects still cooking behind the scenes, but as it stands, DC fans have a lot to look forward to. Just maybe don't hold your breath for The Authority anytime soon.

I'm even more excited for Supergirl after James Gunn's Superman

DC Studios will follow the success of James Gunn's Superman in theaters with director Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) and writer Ana Nogueira's 2026 film, Supergirl. Based on author Tom King's acclaimed comic, Supergirl, this upcoming comic book movie will feature Milly Alcock in the titular role as Kara Zor-El, who travels across the galaxy and helps an alien child (Eve Ridley) exact her revenge on the ruthless assassin, Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts). Supergirl was already a hyped blockbuster event after it was announced as part of Gunn's new DC Universe. However, after seeing the high quality and success of Superman on the big screen, there are many reasons why Supergirl is destined to be another fantastic film for the DCU. Milly Alcock's Supergirl is already a hit character Milly Alcock has proven herself a fantastic actor with her acclaimed breakout performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO's House of the Dragon. However, in less than a minute of screen time at the end of Superman, Alcock proved that she was born to play Superman's cousin. Alcock's Supergirl establishes herself as a fun-seeking, hard-partying woman whose rough but adorable antics with her dog, Krypto, and teasing of Clark make her a lovable, scene-stealing presence. Recommended Videos Sasha Calle delivered a terrific and underrated performance as Kara in 2023's The Flash. However, her character's personality and arc were mostly the same as Clark's in Man of Steel, despite their different histories on Earth. 2025's Superman made it clear that this new Kara is a much different person from the Blue Boy Scout, which should help set her story apart from Clark's in Supergirl. The direction of Superman and the new DC Universe Despite not releasing a single trailer, Supergirl has shown promise after Superman gave the DCU a strong first impression in theaters. With Gunn as the creative head of DC Studios, this new cinematic universe produced a stellar film about one of pop culture's most celebrated icons. Blending classic comic book whimsy, lighthearted humor, and intense, heartfelt human drama, the film stayed true to its source material while presenting a unique story with a director-driven style. It even stands out amongst the many movies Marvel has recently produced. Although Gunn will not be directing Supergirl, his role as producer is expected to guarantee that Gillespie's film remains a faithful adaptation of the comic. At the same time, Gunn should give Gillespie enough creative freedom to deliver a distinctive and entertaining superhero blockbuster that fits Supergirl's character and story. The DCU has already achieved incredible worldbuilding Superman succeeded in establishing a vast, detailed world with a rich history that surrounds aliens and metahumans. It even introduced several iconic comic book characters with roots far beyond Superman's, including the Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, and the Engineer. This was all done on planet Earth. Supergirl will present a grander cosmic story as Supergirl travels to strange, new planets with new creatures, cultures, and environments. It will even give the alien bounty hunter Lobo (Jason Momoa) his long-awaited theatrical debut. This kind of narrative should allow the film to explore regions of the DC Universe that haven't been seen in theaters. It should also add greater depth to the cinematic world introduced in Superman, paving the way for more exciting stories in the DCU. The DCU knows how to do villains Superman has already presented a top-tier antagonist in Lex Luthor. This film did what many movies have struggled to do and created a layered, menacing, and loathsome Lex Luthor. Superman made Nicholas Hoult's character one of the best villains in modern superhero cinema, who should serve as the gold standard for DCU supervillains down the line. Gunn's film. Imagine what Supergirl can do with a more obscure villain like Krem of the Yellow Hills. Many times, Gunn has displayed an uncanny talent for taking unpopular comic book characters and turning them into lovable and hateable pop culture icons. Now that he is overseeing the development of Supergirl, it looks like the film will adapt Krem's character right and present him as a well-rounded villain. The CGI should be done well One major complaint about comic book movies, particularly those produced by Marvel Studios, is the quality of their CGI. This can be attributed to VFX vendors being forced to work on multiple projects that require a significant amount of CGI on such a tight schedule, with work also having to be done on scenes suddenly reshot. While Marvel's many projects are filmed and edited within a year, DC took its time developing Superman, with production starting two years before the premiere. This schedule gave VFX artists enough time to complete the film's CGI, and the results are remarkable. At the same time, Superman had plenty of practical visuals and sets, lightening the workload for its CGI creators. Since Supergirl also began principal photography two years before its premiere, the filmmakers should also be able to develop realistic CGI, which the movie may rely on even more due to its cosmic settings. The return of Krypto the Superdog Superman established Krypto as a new icon of the DCU. His rough, mischievous antics and affectionate character made him an instant fan favorite. Since the Kryptonian canine will reappear in Supergirl, audiences have something to look forward to in this upcoming film. It will also be interesting to see more of the distinctive dynamic Krypto has with Kara, given the latter is the dog's true owner and likely has a longer, deeper relationship with him. Clark was not as fond of Krypto's shenanigans in Superman but was nevertheless caring of it. On the other hand, it appears Krypto will be a huge part of Supergirl's tragic backstory as a survivor of Krypton's destruction. Overall, Superman showed potential for the entire DCU with its unique style of filmmaking, high production values, whimsical story, and engaging characters. Since Supergirl will likely follow Superman's example, it should be a sight to behold that will further establish the DCU as Hollywood's best new superhero franchise. Supergirl will premiere in theaters on June 26, 2026.

In season 1, Robert Patrick's Auggie Smith - Peacemaker's abusive father - met his end. But footage from season 2 shows a new White Dragon costume, this time with a blue color scheme. The video hints it could be Auggie reappearing in visions, as he did during the season 1 finale, or someone entirely new carrying the mantle. Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. also joins the season, gunning for revenge after Peacemaker killed his son, Rick Flag Jr., in The Suicide Squad. That showdown promises some of the most emotionally charged moments this season, according to The Direct. Gunn called him 'the world's foremost eagle hunter,' which instantly makes Eagly, Peacemaker's loyal sidekick, a target. Nhut Le's Judomaster is back as well, though his allegiance is unclear. He spent most of season 1 fighting Peacemaker, but this time his role could swing either way. Sean Gunn steps in as Maxwell Lord, a character with a shady reputation in DC lore. He appears to be connected to Justice League recruitment efforts, but fans know Lord is rarely trustworthy. Rounding out the villain squad is White Rabbit, played by Brey Noelle. Known in comics as a socialite with super speed and cloning abilities, she is making her live-action debut. FAQs Who is the main villain in Peacemaker season 2? Six villains, including White Dragon and Maxwell Lord, are set to appear. When does Peacemaker season 2 premiere? The first episode debuts on August 21. Which actors are joining season 2?
