Breitling pays tribute to Hawaiian surf culture with updated Superocean Heritage
The Superocean Heritage is no ordinary sea watch. It never was. When Breitling first launched it in 1957, it took a different tack from other dive watches of the era. The Ref. 1004 (a sleek time-only piece) and Ref. 807 (the world's first dedicated dive chronograph) weren't just about exploring the underwater world – they were about looking good doing it. The spear-and-arrow hands, ceramic rotating bezel and naturally sleek proportions made it a favourite of stylish adventurers who lived for the sea and the scene. Today, that philosophy is still at the core of the Superocean Heritage. It has the soul of the 1950s, but designed for today. Breitling CEO Georges Kern sums it up: 'The Superocean Heritage is our most elegant sea watch, and this update is all about refinement. Breitling Superocean Heritage Automatic 36. 'Every detail has been perfected, but the spirit stays the same. It's about style at sea.' This refresh takes everything that has made the Superocean Heritage distinctive and makes it even sharper. The collection includes a 42mm chronograph, powered by the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, the brand's industry-leading timekeeping movement. The automatic models, in 44mm, 42mm and 40mm, introduce the B31 movement, Breitling's first exclusive three-hand manufacture calibre launched in March. A further 36mm houses the Calibre 10 automatic movement. The collection's colour palette has been streamlined to a core of black, blue and green, paired with a matching ceramic-inlaid bezel for next-level scratch resistance that will keep the watch looking new long into the future. Thinner, more integrated mesh-metal and mesh-rubber bracelets ensure a watertight fit against the case, complete with folding clasps for a seamless finish. Other refinements enhance symmetry and proportion. Tone-on-tone subdials and a subtle date aperture at six o'clock create a balanced composition, while distinct hands – an arrow for hours, a spear for minutes – and pointed indexes maintain the at-a-glance readability that made the mid-century original essential for divers. Select models introduce responsibly-sourced 18k red-gold to the outer bezels, adding lustre while preserving the collection's sleek aesthetic. Breitling Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 44. The versatile lineup also includes new 36mm and 40mm sizes, designed for those who prefer a trimmer diameter suited to a wide variety of wrists. The launch campaign brings the spirit of the new Superocean Heritage to life in full colour – drawing on the sights, sounds and surf culture of Hawaii. With its modern-retro flair, it channels the lush foliage, saturated tones and sunlit energy that define the 'Aloha State'. Kelly Slater limited edition For professional surfer Kelly Slater, Hawaii used to be the dream. Now it's home. With 11 world titles, 56 event wins and three decades spent redefining the sport, Slater has gone beyond being a champion. He's a force of nature. As he steps away from professional competition, Breitling is celebrating his extraordinary career with the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater, a limited-edition watch infused with the Hawaiian surf culture that shaped him. Back view of the Breitling Superocean Heritage B01 Chronograph 42. 'From as early as I can remember, I dreamt of travelling to and living in Hawaii,' says Slater. 'It was this far-off land of amazing waves, perfect weather and the ultimate surfing lifestyle. 'After living here, I realised it's much bigger than that. 'The people, the community, the nature, all so intertwined. 'The respect Hawaiians have for their land, people and culture runs deep. 'It makes Hawaii even more special than what I dreamt of when I was a kid. And now I call it home,' Slater adds. The dial features a foliage pattern, inspired by the light and shadows of a tropical canopy. Close up of the Breitling Superocean Heritage B01 Chronograph 42. The caseback is open, revealing the B31 movement, while its outer ring is engraved with 'One of 500' and 'Kelly Slater Limited Edition'. Available on a blue rubber mesh strap or stainless-steel mesh bracelet, the watch comes in a special presentation box featuring the same Hawaiian floral motif and includes a personal note from Slater himself. 'Breitling has been with me for years,' says Slater. 'This watch reflects everything I love – the ocean, nature and the easy-going style I've always connected with,' he says. Breitling is also rolling out a sunglasses collaboration with Cutler and Gross.

Five Summer Watches: Zenith, Moser, Breitling, Omega, Seiko
The updated Breitling Superocean Heritage collection, made for the beach. It's summertime, and although that means less time watching the clock, there are still reasons to keep track of time, whether you're diving or just timing your exposure to this ridiculous heat. Summer watches serve the dual purpose of making you look chic in an era when dressing the part is more important than the job at hand, and adding a reliable tool to your ensemble of summer essentials. Here are five timepieces to get you through the season, whether you're yachting in Portofino or just reading on the beach at home. H. Moser & Cie Pioneer Spiced Aqua The Pioneer Spiced Aqua Center Seconds from H. Moser & Cie. This limited series recalls the neon blue of the Mediterranean and the hot orange hue of a summer sunset. There are three pieces: a simple three-hand with center seconds ($16,900); a tourbillon with a rate-balancing double hairspring for greater accuracy ($59,500); and a skeletonized tourbillon with a rare cylindrical hairspring ($93,500). They are steel and come with rubber or leather straps. Omega Aqua Terra Turquoise Like the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, the Omega Terra Turquoise. The turquoise lacquer dial on this watch reflects the model's purpose, which is water sports. Water resistant to 150 meters, it is fully lumed on the hands and indexes for underwater viewing. The dial is a gradient of turquoise, and the movement is a chronometer-rated automatic. This one is 41mm ($7,000), but for smaller wrists, Omega also just dropped 12 new 30mm-sized versions of the Aqua Terra, ranging in price from $6,600 - $40,100 in gold. Seiko Prospex Jaws The Seiko Prospex Jaws Anniversary Edition. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the movie Jaws, which put both Steven Spielberg and the great white shark on the map forever. Seiko is commemorating the occasion with a special edition of the Prospex. The dial, in a gradation of colors of the sea, reveals the shark emerging from the waves depending on the light and viewing angle. The caseback is engraved with the image of the Orca, the boat from the film, and the shark's dorsal fin emerging from the water. Limited to 5,000 pieces at $795. Zenith Defy Extreme Diver Shadow and Diver Revival Zenith Defy Extreme Diver Shadow and Diver Revival. The Diver Revival ($8,200) is a tribute to Zenith's 1969 Defy dive watches, but modernized with an edgy sand-blasted titanium case and bracelet. The unidirectional rotating bezel is also titanium, but with a yellow tinted sapphire insert for high visibility and racy looks. The crown is positioned at 4:30, as on the original. It's 37mm wide and water resistant to 600 meters. The Diver Shadow, also in sand-blasted titanium, ($12,300) is bigger, at 42.5mm. It can also descend to 600 meters, and there is even a helium escape valve in case you really want to go that deep. Breitling Kelly Slater Superocean Heritage Breitling's updated Superocean Heritage collection. Breitling's 40mm and 36mm versions of the Superocean Heritage take up far less wrist space than the previous 46mm size, and they look cool too. It is part of a full update to the collection, which includes a 40mm limited edition model co-designed by surfing champ Kelly Slater (500 pieces, $6,450). It has a blue dial with tropical foliage pattern, and a blue mesh-look rubber strap or flat-end steel mesh bracelet. The wider collection includes several colors.

3 of the hottest new watches for summer 2025
Summer's here, and the latest wave of watch releases is making a serious splash. Whether you're heading for the coast, lounging poolside, or just want something that looks the part with short sleeves and a tan, these are some of the best watches to bring the heat in all the right ways. Tudor kicks things off with a new take on the Black Bay 54, now dressed in a crisp 'Lagoon Blue' that feels tailor-made for holiday escapes. Breitling follows with a fresh update to its Superocean Heritage line — sleeker, sharper, and effortlessly surf-ready. And Blancpain brings the Fifty Fathoms into new territory, unveiling a duo of 38mm Automatique models, one in a very playful shade of pink. From heritage divers to refined elegance, these three watches are the kind of wrist candy summer was made for. Tudor Black Bay 54 'Lagoon Blue' Tudor's hottest summer release comes with a cool splash of blue. The new Black Bay 54 'Lagoon Blue' is a 37mm stunner with a sand-textured dial and mirror-polished bezel, designed to feel as relaxed as a barefoot walk across sun-warmed sand. With a compact case that nods to vintage dive watches and a blue that shifts subtly in the light, it's as stylish on dry land as it is 200 metres underwater. Inside, it's powered by Tudor's COSC-certified MT5400 movement, with a silicon balance spring and a 70-hour power reserve – enough to keep ticking through a long weekend away. On the outside, it adds a new five-link bracelet with polished centre links and the 'T-fit' clasp for quick, easy adjustment. The pinched-base 'Snowflake' hands recall the 1954 original, while the ergonomic bezel edge draws inspiration from the legendary Oyster Prince Submariner 7922. The Tudor Black Bay 54 'Lagoon Blue' is available now for US$4,350 / £3,590. Breitling Superocean Heritage Breitling has given its most elegant sea watch a long-awaited refresh – the first since 2017 – and it's a masterclass in subtle evolution. The new Superocean Heritage range sharpens the lines, updates the movement, and captures the spirit of summer with a nod to Hawaiian surf culture. Across the new line-up, the standout story is refinement. The case profiles are slimmer, the dial layouts more balanced, and the range of sizes, from 36mm to 44mm, ensures there's something for every wrist. The introduction of Breitling's new B31 manufacture calibre marks a major milestone – it's the brand's first in-house three-hand automatic, now available in the 40, 42, and 44mm models. The 42 mm chronograph retains the Calibre 01, while the 36mm version keeps the reliable Calibre 10. Design updates include ceramic bezels for scratch resistance, mesh-metal or rubber bracelets with thinner, more integrated profiles, and clean, at-a-glance dials with symmetrical tone-on-tone subdials and a tucked-in date at six. A few models even add a pop of 18k red gold on the bezel. The launch isn't just about the watches, though. The brand has collaborated with surfing icon Kelly Slater on a special limited edition – the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater. With a foliage-inspired dial (reminiscent of the Rolex Palm dials), Hawaiian motifs, and a personal note from Slater in the box. Only 500 will be made. The Hawaii theme continues beyond the wrist, too. Breitling has teamed up with British eyewear legends Cutler and Gross on a new sunglasses line inspired by the Superocean Heritage range, incorporating design cues like the arrow-shaped hour hand and mesh textures. And if that's not laid-back enough, there's even a pair of Breitling x Havaianas flip-flops featuring tropical floral prints. So what you're looking at is more than just a watch refresh. It's a lifestyle capsule built around sun, surf, and sea – perfect for summer. The collection starts at US$5250 / £4400. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 38mm Finally, we have Blancpain's legendary dive watch, the Fifty Fathoms. It just got its first-ever dedicated women's model (although I'd argue 38mm is perfectly unisex) – and the pink version is a standout for summer. Housed in a newly redesigned 38mm titanium case, it's bold, playful, and every bit as capable as its larger siblings. The proportions aren't just scaled down – they've been completely reworked for balance and comfort, giving this timepiece a strong identity of its own. The star of the show is the radiant pink dégradé mother-of-pearl dial, shimmering beneath a domed sapphire bezel with a soft pink tint. It's paired with a white fabric strap, accented by twin pink racing stripes that give the watch a sporty kick. It could easily be mistaken for a Swatch x Blancpain Fifty Fathoms collab. Despite the delicate appearance, it's still a proper diver, rated to 300 metres and powered by the calibre 1153 with a 100-hour power reserve. Available now, priced at US$18,500 / £15,700.
