MIRI (July 13): A 43-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident at Kilometre 3, Jalan Pandaruan in Limbang at around 9am today.
Limbang police chief Supt Parum Niot said the victim, identified as Faridah Adek, succumbed to her injuries while being rushed to Limbang Hospital for treatment.
'The incident involved a motorcycle ridden by the victim and her husband, each on separate machines, travelling from Kampung Pahlawan towards Limbang town.
'The victim was riding behind her husband when she failed to avoid a metal bar which was lying across the road,' he said in a statement today.
Parum said the metal bar is believed to have fallen onto the road following an earlier accident involving an excavator operating by the roadside.
'The victim's husband managed to swerve and avoid the obstruction, but Faridah, who was following closely behind, was unable to react in time. She collided with the bar and veered into the opposite lane,' he added.
Faridah sustained serious injuries and was transported to Limbang Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead en route.
