Maoist SZCM, East Bastar division in-charge Nagaraju, his wife Aruna surrendered before DGP Harish Kumar Gupta
CPI (Maoist) East Bastar divisional committee in-charge and State zonal committee member (SZCM) Jorige Nagaraju alias Kamalesh and his wife Medaka Jyoteeswari alias Aruna, divisional committee member surrendered before Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta in Vijayawada on Saturday (July 26, 2025).
Nagaraju, a native of Poranki village, Krishna district, served in various cadres in the banned Maoist party for 34 years and carries a reward of ₹20 lakh on his head. His wife Aruna, who hails from Kappaladoddi village in Krishna district, worked in various cadres in the party for 30 years. 'Government announced a reward of ₹5 lakh on her head,' the DGP said at a press conference.

While pursuing ITI, Nagaraju joined in Radical Students Union (RSU) in 1991 and joined in then People's War Group (PWG). He worked as assistant and courier to party central committee member, late Akkiraju Haragopal alias R.K. He worked in Dachepalli and Bollapalli dalams of Guntur Divisional Committee (DVC), Krishnapatti dalam, Dandakaranya area and North Bastar DVC.
He was involved in several cases and Exchange of Fires (EoFs) in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, killed one police constable and had played a key role in the attack on Addanki police station. In 1997, Nagaraju married Aruna, while she was working as member in Chandravanka dalam in Guntur DVC.
The DGP said Aruna studied up to tenth class in Pedana, in Krishna district and joined the Maoist party. She worked in Bellamkonda, Dachepalli, Rachakonda dalams in various cadres and elevated to divisional committee member and was transferred to Bastar. She was the in-charge of Mobile Academic Political Organisation School (MAPOS).
'Due to lack of public support, poor recruitments, death of senior cadres in Maoist party, disillusionment with the party ideology, he had decided to surrender and avail the benefits of the Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy,' the couple surrendered and decided to join the main stream Mr. Harish Kumar Gupta said.
'On specific information, the Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district police unearthed three Maoist armed dumps in Mampa, Madugukota and Tangedukota forests from July 23 to 25 and seized one AK-47, five SLRs, two INSAS rifles, five 303 rifles, two BGL weapons, one pistol, 16 BGL shells and 20 cartridges, 15 detonators, eight walkies, huge quantity of ammunition, a telescope and other material,' the DGP explained.
Additional DGP (Law and Order) N. Madhusudhan Reddy, IGP (Operations) Srikanth, IGP (Intelligence) P.H.D. Ramakrishna, Visakhapatnam Range DIG Gopinath Jatti, ASR district SP Amit Bardar and other officers participated. The DGP handed over cheques amounted to ₹22 lakh to 13 other surrendered Maoists on the occasion.
