22 Unexpected "Survivor" Opinions That Make Perfect Sense
Survivor fans are used to hot takes. Ever since the show premiered over 25 years ago, fans have known that engaging in the discourse around the show is integral to Survivor fandom. Whether it's about controversial winners (or losers), what makes for fair game play, or the show's ever-evolving format, people have a lot to say and rarely shy away from sharing their opinions. So, when Season 48 fan-favorite, Shauhin Davari, posted "Give me your wildest Survivor take..." on TikTok, the responses did not disappoint. Here are 22 of people's hot takes and ideas for potential themes, adjustments, and evolutions for the future of the show. "I would love two Survivor seasons being filmed at once. But neither game knows about the other until they think they've made the merge. Then they're combined and we watch the chaos." —scburlison "I hate that they don't show the players 'surviving' anymore. It's all game play, which is cool, but I want to see people spending the day fishing and crying about being up all night from the rain, etc." "Bring back Jeff's intense intros — hanging out of a helicopter, speeding in on a jetski. We used to be a proper country." —maresib "If the show is going to stay in Fiji every year, they NEED to bring back themed seasons, the auction, loved ones, fewer twists, and make it 39 days." —ptmacho16 Alternatively, "I don't mind the day shortage. I feel like it kind of makes things harder and more tiring because they don't have rest days between challenges." —toriandtilly "There should be a season where everyone knows someone else, kind of like Blood vs Water, but Jeff doesn't announce it to the contestants, just to us, [the viewers]." —chels.e.b"And when Jeff announces the twist, he says, 'Two of you have an advantage here because you have an already established relationship with someone else playing this game.' But everyone does lol."—jakeswan777 "[Today's villains] are like monks compared to real villains of the show's history." —jimbojohn536"I think people are afraid of getting canceled or dragged on the internet."—maddysage1996 "Random chance twists have no place in Survivor. It's supposed to be a social strategy game, not a 'who is best at rolling dice?' game. [They should] stop changing the rules and let the players make decisions." —quajek "Fiji literally looks like a set. It's super fake-looking and so played out. I like when they go to different locations..." —sissy_gh "Survivor 50 should have had double the players like in 'The Hunger Games.'" —tunacatmeowmeow "[They should] bring back Redemption Island without telling anyone on the season until they walk onto it after getting voted out." —lexxxxx150 "I would rather they bring back rice from day one than have a reward feast every episode. The reward aspect of the game has lost its value entirely in my opinion because someone is getting food every episode." —trader_josie "Professional athletes should be banned as competitors." —kyles_ghost "Survivor [producers] have players they would prefer to win and choose the challenge to help or hurt specific people to get their preferred player farther." —christinaberke"The producers interfered with the outcome of Survivor 48. I've never felt like that before, but this season seemed pretty obvious they were pushing two castaways forward."—janarunz "Conspiracy: The season 50 fan votes are just for show. The results won't actually matter, and CBS will choose whatever they want." —kenny4753 "I'd love to see a season where they're all on one beach and before each challenge, they randomly draw teams and that's the groups they have to vote someone out of. I think it would completely change how people strategize." —keeva__ "Survivor needs to stop making the whole cast fans of the show. Remember when being a fan of the show was a gimmick? Now it's just the norm. Go back to casting characters who aren't Survivor experts." —mc_mayonnaise "Ageism is such a massive problem in Survivor. No matter what they do, they are always considered a final goat even if they have great gameplay and social skills." —pixelatedbuizel "I want a season with exes. They'd each be on different tribes, and they don't know about it til they land on the beach. Can you imagine the drama?" —mrsfatgranpapaOr, similarly: "They should do an exes season, but no one knows it's an exes season, so they all just think they're the only one with their ex on the island with them, pleaseeeee it would be so good." —hangnailmoon "[I want a season that's] cops vs lawyers vs people who were formerly incarcerated." —ihatepickingausername5"Democrats v. Republicans would be a wild season."—im_not_jason"Cops vs Firefighters."—tchr2.0"[I want] an all-lawyers season now."—emilyrooker4 "[They should] bring the reunion back to the studio and make the winner wait to be announced." —tammyjeanbeautyqueen And lastly, "Parvati should take over as host when Jeff retires (may he never retire, though, because what is Survivor without Jeff Probst??)" —morganlsapienza There you have it, 22 Survivor hot takes that you might just agree with. Or not! Let us know what you think of these takes and/or share any of your own in the comments.

TVLine's Performer of the Week: Pedro Pascal
THE PERFORMER | Pedro Pascal THE SHOW | The Last of Us More from TVLine Glad The Last of Us Spared Dog? Did Rehearsal Give You High Anxiety? Did Survivor 50 Need Fan Input? Vexing Organized Crime Absences? More Qs! Hacks Creators Talk Finale's Major 'Wake Up Call,' Deborah's Next Move: 'They Are Ready to Fight Together' Hacks Renewed for Season 5 at Max THE EPISODE | 'The Price' (May 18, 2025) THE PERFORMANCE | In The Last of Us Part II video game, players don't arrive at the porch-conversation flashback until the end of the story. HBO's adaptation, however, chose to deliver the seminal Joel-Ellie moment in Sunday's episode — and thank goodness, because it meant we got another dose of Pedro Pascal's excellence that much sooner. Pascal has only been out of the action for a few episodes, but we've missed him! From the start of Joel and Ellie's confrontation on the porch, Pascal let us know that Joel knew he'd messed up with that outburst at the dance, choosing to have Joel stare out into the night rather than look directly at Ellie as she ripped into him. (Ramsey, also excellent in the scene, already nabbed a Performer of the Week this season and therefore was ineligible here.) His voice low, his tone conciliatory, Pascal continued the interaction as a chastened man who just didn't want to do any more damage. Uh, A+ for effort, dude. We could practically feel the tightness in Pascal's throat as Joel fought tears, nodding weakly while Ellie finally asked him the questions she'd carried for years. Owning up to the violence he committed and the choice he made on Ellie's behalf was not cathartic. On the contrary, Pascal's crumbling expression and hitching breath showed us a Joel whose confession seemed to drain the very life out of him. But catharsis did come in the moment where Joel explained why he'd committed those acts. Pascal's tears flowed freely as Joel finally looked at Ellie and told her he loved her. His voice was high, hurt and halting, and his posture was braced for attack. But Pascal led with his character's deeper-than-reason affection for his surrogate daughter, giving the entire interaction a heft we're still feeling days later — fantastic on every level. Scroll down to see who got Honorable Mention shout-outs this week… Simply said, A.J. Cook was every bit as good as you knew she would be, playing out the aftermath of JJ's husband Will's sudden death on Criminal Minds: Evolution. For 18 years JJ and Will were together, and Cook, for starters, made us feel the heavy weight of that devastating loss hit her character. JJ like her peers is typically indefatigable, but Cook here made clear that JJ was shattered, dazed, off her game. Opposite the late Linda Lavin as Will's emotionally wounded mom, Cook played a wife led to think she could have done more. In scenes with real-life sons Mekhai and Phoenix as Henry and Michael, Cook was a mom left to worry for her suddenly fatherless boys. And with the arrival of Matthew Gray Gubler's Spencer, Cook conveyed the warmth of longtime friends reunited by tragedy. Just typing about JJ's eulogy… man, the eyes water up yet again. Cook was just brilliant. — Matt Webb Mitovich In The Studio's season finale, Bryan Cranston gave a masterclass in physical comedy, as the very drugged up Continental CEO Griffin Mill pratfalled his way throughout Vegas, thanks to Matt's 'old school Hollywood buffet.' With a company-saving presentation on the line, Griffin's staff attempted to 'Weekend at Bernie's' him, propping him up like a puppet so the man could show face at CinemaCon. And he kinda, sorta did, but not before Cranston absolutely unleashed, performing a sex act on a water fountain, continuously face-planting on the floor and later exploding with energy after being dosed with cocaine. Watching Griffin attempt to walk and talk like a normal functioning human led to some outrageous laughs, putting yet another feather in the Breaking Bad star's cap… and we can't wait to see the punch ol' Griffin will pack come Season 2. — Nick Caruso You didn't think we'd let Jean Smart go unacknowledged this season, did you? In Hacks' penultimate episode, Bob Lipka gave Deborah an ultimatum: Fire Ava for leaking company info or the late-night show was done. Smart infused what became the comedian's final monologue with so much heart and heartbreak as her character explained to her audience why she was walking away. At the top of the speech, Smart's comedic timing was as sharp as ever. But when she finally dropped the hammer, the actress so naturally pivoted, taking a solemn tone and choking back tears as Deborah said goodbye to the dream she worked so hard to achieve. Deborah Vance's future may be unknown, but four seasons in, we still can't wait to see what Smart delivers next. — N.C. Which performance(s) knocked your socks off this week? Tell us in the comments! Mike White, Cirie Fields, Ozzy Lusth announced as ‘Survivor 50' cast members
After months of rumors and speculation (and endless fake spoilers), the wait is finally over. CBS has officially announced the cast of Survivor 50, the landmark golden anniversary season that's due in spring 2026. This is the first all-stars cycle since Season 40's Winners at War (2020), so fans are understandably excited to see who's returning to the island. The 49th and 50th seasons are filming back to back this spring and summer in Mamanuca Islands, Fiji, the reality TV show's permanent home since 2016. And yes, that means you have all of the power. Viewers voted throughout Survivor 48 for certain aspects of gameplay for the upcoming 50th cycle, including advantages, Buff colors, abundance of food, final four fire-making, and whether the winner will be announced at a live reunion show or on-location at tribal council. SEE 'Survivor' deaths: Full list of castaways we've lost The host and showrunner's main goal in casting the 50th installment was to bring back contestants who "represented the entire series," which began in 2000. Since then, more than 700 people have played the game of Survivor, with each winner taking home a $1 million prize. To date, Sandra Diaz-Twine (Pearl Islands, Heroes vs. Villains) and Tony Vlachos (Cagayan, Winners at War) are the franchise's only two-time champions. In another example of fan support, CBS and Fiji Airways teamed up to award five lucky at-home "tribes" — comprising groups of friends and loved ones — with trips to Fiji to watch the filming of Season 50. Their adventures include roundtrip airfare, four nights of accommodations at a luxurious ocean-front resort, exposure to the rich Fijian culture, a tour of the Survivor sets, and a meet-and-greet with Probst.
