Rohit Sharma Recalls Suryakumar Yadav's T20 WC Final Catch: 'It Looked Like A Six'
India's 2024 T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma has recalled his feelings after Suryakumar Yadav's famous catch of David Miller at long-off in the title clash against South Africa, on this day one year ago. Rohit said he felt the ball was going for a six until Suryakumar 'flew in', explaining how the entire team had their hearts in their mouths waiting for the third umpire to verify it after seeing several replays. From 30 runs required in 30 balls at one stage, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya pulled things back for India, leaving the Proteas needing 16 runs off the last over. On the first ball, a full-toss from Pandya, Miller lofted over long-off. Suryakumar came running in sideways, stretched his hands to catch it, and lobbed it back in the air as his momentum took him past the ropes, before coming back and grabbing it again.

Suryakumar undergoes successful sports hernia surgery in Germany
India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has undergone a successful surgery for a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen in Munich, Germany. PTI had reported last week that Suryakumar was suffering from a sports hernia in his right lower abdomen and will go under the knife if required. 'Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I'm already on the road to recovery. Can't wait to be back,' the 34-year-old batter wrote on his social media handle on Wednesday (June 25, 2025). A sports hernia is a soft tissue injury in the groin or lower abdomen, often involving muscles, tendons, or ligaments. Following the surgery in Germany, he is expected to begin rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in about two weeks. India's next white-ball assignment is a tour of Bangladesh in August, which will have three ODIs and three T20Is. Suryakumar, who hasn't featured in the 50-over format since the 2023 World Cup final, is expected to return to lead the T20I side in Chattogram on August 26. This was Suryakumar's third surgery in as many years. He underwent ankle surgery in 2023 and previously had the same sports hernia procedure in 2024. Before the surgery, Suryakumar was in scintillating form for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 and was named the Player of the Tournament. He had amassed 717 runs — second behind Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan (759 runs) — as the Mumbai Indians finished in the playoffs, where they lost to Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. In the T20 Mumbai League that followed, he led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, scoring 122 runs in five innings.

India Captain Undergoes Successful Lower Abdomen Surgery In Germany, To Return To Action In...
India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has successfully undergone hernia surgery in Munich, Germany and is currently recovering, as per ESPNcricinfo. Suryakumar posted on his official Instagram handle, "Life Update : Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I'm already on the road to recovery. Can't wait to be back." The 34-year-old was last seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where he played a key role in guiding the Mumbai Indians (MI) to the playoffs. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Surya Kumar Yadav (SKY) (@surya_14kumar) Suryakumar Yadav enjoyed a record-breaking IPL 2025 season, registering 16 consecutive scores of 25 or more, a new world record. Suryakumar finished the tournament with 717 runs, the highest ever by a Mumbai Indians batter in a single season and the most by any non-opener in IPL history. India are currently touring England for a five-match Test series, which runs until August 4. Following that, the team will shift focus to a white-ball series in Bangladesh, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is. Suryakumar, who hasn't featured in ODI cricket since the 2023 World Cup final, used this break from international duty to undergo surgery and focus on recovery. He is expected to return in time to lead the T20I side in the Bangladesh series, starting August 26 in Chattogram. Suryakumar was handed the reins of India's T20I team after their triumphant World Cup campaign in June 2024. With senior stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retiring from the format post-victory, the stage was set for the IPL generation to take charge. Under Surya's leadership, India's T20 batting has scaled new heights, emphasising attacking intent and batting depth. The team has consistently posted mammoth totals, including a staggering 297 against Bangladesh in October 2024, the second-highest total in T20 history.
