Dakota Johnson takes the helm: a 'very personal' directorial debut that promises to captivate
Dakota Johnson is currently directing her first full-length feature film. Image: Instagram. Dakota Johnson is stepping into the director's chair for the first time in a project she says is 'very close to her heart'. The acclaimed actress, best known for her roles in 'Fifty Shades of Grey', 'Black Mass" and 'Suspiria' revealed her plans during an online interview while attending the 59th Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic. Not many details were shared about the upcoming film, but Johnson described the project as a genuine reflection of her passion for telling nuanced female-centric stories. This deeply personal venture is born from her collaboration with Vanessa Burghardt, her co-star from "Cha Cha Real Smooth", whom she praised as an "incredible autistic actress". 'I've always felt that I'm not ready to direct a feature. I don't have the confidence, but, with her, I feel very protective and I know her very well. I can see this world, so I just won't let anybody else do it. That's the real answer," said Johnson. On Sunday, July 6, at the prestigious festival, Johnson was also honoured with the prestigious President's Award. American actor Peter Sarsgaard and actress Vicky Krieps from Luxembourg were also honoured on the opening night, Friday, July 4. Video Player is loading. In 'Materialists', Johnson portrays a matchmaker, further blending her roles as both actress and producer. As she dives deeper into the directing realm, Johnson also reveals her eagerness to tackle challenging roles. The versatile actress hinted at her yearning for complex characters. "I'm itching to play a psychopath and would love to do an action film. I'm open to anything," she said. Before her debut, Johnson directed the music video for Coldplay's 'Cry Cry Cry' and produced the short film 'Loser Baby.' Reflecting on her experiences at film festivals, Johnson expressed: 'I love coming to film festivals, just because everyone loves movies so much. I think art can really reach people, and so, festivals in places like this make me feel inspired and hopeful.'

Dakota Johnson Jokes She's 'Always Psyched' to Film Sex Scenes
Originally appeared on E! Online Dakota Johnson isn't blushing 50 shades of red over intimacy. The Materialists actor teased that she doesn't fully prepare to perform a sex scene, as she's become more comfortable filming them. 'I don't have to,' Dakota joked during her June 10 appearance on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast. 'I'm, like, always psyched up for sex.' In fact, the 35-year-old has a certain trick she uses to navigate those sensual moments. She studies her characters' background, which helps her interpret how they might approach sex in the film's plot. 'First, it depends on who the character is and who the character's supposed to be to the audience,' she continued. 'Is she like a super idolized hot girl? Is she a housewife? Is she lonely? Is she scared? Is she conservative? So that's obviously character work.' More from E! Online Aaron Rodgers Reveals He's Married Bachelorette Star Jenn Tran and DWTS' Sasha Farber Break Up After Less Than a Year of Dating Gilligan's Island Star Tina Louise Makes Rare Public Outing at 91 Though she has her own tactic, the Suspiria actor also credited her comfort around these scenes to her mom Melanie Griffith, who created a safe space for her to talk about sex growing up. 'My mom raised me to be really proud of my body and love my body,' Dakota—whose dad is actor Don Johnson—explained. 'I've always felt so grateful for that, especially in my work because I can use it and it feels real. It was the way she spoke about it with me. She talked to me about sex and how precious and important it is.' Dakota then reflected on the last sex scene she filmed 'a few months ago,' noting that experience was the 'first time' she's worked with an intimacy coordinator. And while she had a 'great' interaction with the coordinator, it dawned on her that she didn't have an on-set professional for her most intimate character: Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. 'There were no intimacy coordinators,' she explained, before noting the behind-the-scenes work in creating the first film—which was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson—was a bit tough. 'I think the movie is as good a version as it could be. But it was challenging. I signed on to a script that was different than what we ended up shooting.' And with those changes being out of her control, the Fifty Shades Freed star toughed it out. 'You're attached, you signed a contract, signed on to do it with a different actor—and then it all changed,' she continued. 'I was so young, I think I turned 24 when we were shooting. But I'm proud of myself for being brave.' Ryan Gosling's Nemesis In 'Star Wars' Film Named; Chad Stahelski Discusses 'John Wick: Chapter 5' Challenges
After months of waiting, we finally have the latest tea on two of the hottest movie franchises and their upcoming sequels. Here, we'll be discussing the newest faces that will be joining the projects, as well as development woes that the filmmakers are currently facing in order to bring these films to life. It's Ryan Gosling Versus Mia Goth In Upcoming 'Star Wars: Starfighter' Ever since we reported on the possibility of Ryan Gosling joining the biggest sci-fi franchise of all time, people have been clamouring for additional information. When the news was first reported, many were first interested in what role the beloved movie star would play. Many have speculated that he might be a Jedi, while others tossed him into the lot of bounty hunters, but nothing was substantiated until now. After almost half a year of waiting, we've finally gotten an update on not only who he will be, but who he is against. Believe it or not, one of the main actors to join Ryan Gosling in this epic adventure is none other than Mia Goth, known for her breakout role as Sara Simms in Luca Guadagnino's 'Suspiria' remake back in 2018. However, she's not here to help save the day — far from it — as she has been confirmed to be the main antagonist for Shawn Levy's 'Star Wars: Starfighter'. Despite rumours running amok that Mikey Madison was supposed to be the big bad of the series, following an offer from the studio, it was Goth who ultimately won out and will be cruising along the stars. But how does she fit in and how will her and Gosling's paths collide? Well, we don't know the exact details, but it has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that the story will follow Gosling, who is trying to protect a young child from evil pursuers, whom Goth has thrown down her lot with. As to the 'hows' or 'whys' or if it will be like 'The Mandalorian' series, that has yet to be confirmed, with Lucasfilm keeping its lips shut for the time being. The one piece of information that we do know is that it will take place five years after the event of 'The Rise of Skywalker', with Levy saying that it is a 'stand-alone' project and is 'set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet'. Filming for the upcoming movie is set to get underway in England before the year ends, with a release targeted for 28th May, 2027 – which gives us ample time to enjoy other 'Star Wars' entries. 'John Wick 5' Creators Wonder If Upcoming Sequel Will Satisfy Fans In our fairly recent coverage, we discussed the shocking news that 'John Wick: Chapter 5' is not only happening, but that it is also an honest-to-God sequel, with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as the legendary — and supposed-to-be-dead — hitman. Many have raised an eyebrow over this, especially with how much Reeves himself stated that he's getting too old to do high-intensity action scenes and re-emphasised to everyone that the character is canonically dead. Despite this, Chad Stahelski, co-creator of the 'John Wick' franchise, has opened up about the challenges of developing the upcoming instalment. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski has said that it has been 'a bit of a conundrum', to say the least. 'I'm not going to lie to you, it's a bit of a conundrum. Me and Mike Finch — the writer on 4 who's also writing 5 — we've got a pretty good story that I think is cool. Once we have a 50-page book, and if we're feeling it, we'll sit with Keanu and shape this thing. Look, everybody seems to want it. It's a matter of whether we crack it. We're actively working on it. It's just … is it going to be satisfying?' As mentioned in our previous article, Stahelski clarified that the next instalment will move away from the High Table, the shadow organisation that was secretly running the world throughout the franchise, as they've wrapped that storyline up with the conclusion of 'Chapter 4'. He also stressed that he didn't want to disappoint fans of the franchise, especially because they have been extremely passionate about the story and the character ever since it began back in 2014. Despite receiving the go signal for the sequel from Lionsgate, Stahelski has implied that there might not be a fifth instalment, suggesting that this sequel is dependent on whether or not they'll be able to find a good enough story that can satisfy all parties involved — especially the fans. Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin break up for ‘final' time after eight years together, say reports
After eight years in an on-off relationship, Coldplay singer Chris Martin and Fifty Shades of Grey actor Dakota Johnson have reportedly broken up for good. Martin, 48, and Johnson, 35, have been dating since 2017, a relationship that included a multiple-year engagement. However, it has often been overshadowed by breakup rumours. This time it could be over for good. 'It feels final this time,' a source told People. Two weeks ago, on 16 May, the pair were spotted in Malibu together, while earlier this year they held hands in India while Martin toured with Coldplay. Last year representatives for the Madame Web actor denied that the couple had split after she was spotted without her emerald engagement ring. They told The Independent in August 2024 that the pair were still 'happily together'. The Independent has contacted representatives for both Johnson and Martin for comment. While the couple didn't publicly announce their engagement, Johnson has been seen regularly wearing the same emerald ring since 2020. Prior to their relationship, Martin was married to Gwyneth Paltrow. The former couple, who were married from 2003 to 2016, share two children: 20-year-old daughter Apple and 18-year-old son Moses. Over the years, Johnson has shared details about her relationship with both Martin's children and his ex-wife. When asked in an interview with Bustle back in March if she liked being a stepmother, she gushed over Apple and Moses. 'I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart,' she said. In October 2023, Paltrow opened up about her close bond with Johnson during a Q&A session on her Instagram Stories. 'We're actually very good friends,' the Iron Man star said. 'I love her so much. She's an adorable, wonderful person.' In addition to her close relationship with Martin's ex-wife, the Suspiria actor has also spoken out about how Martin helped her when she was depressed. During the 2023 Hope for Depression Research Foundation luncheon, she shared how the musician has been there for her through highs and lows. 'A few weeks ago, I was having a low day and my partner said to me, 'Are you really struggling?' and I said, 'No?'' she recalled, reported Hello. 'And he said, 'Baby, you are wearing a Cats T-shirt.' As in Cats the musical,' Johnson said. 'So it turns out, I really was struggling. But that moment lifted me up and pulled me out of it.'
