EverEnviro's Indore CBG plant achieves 20 TPD output, highest PLF in India's bioenergy sector
New Delhi: India's first large-scale compressed biogas (CBG) plant built on municipal solid waste (MSW) has reached a daily production of 20 tonnes, making it the most productive CBG facility in the country. Operated by EverEnviro Resource Management Pvt Ltd in partnership with the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), the facility has achieved the highest Plant Load Factor (PLF) in the sector. Commissioned in 2022 and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the plant processes 550 metric tonnes of segregated organic waste every day. Built on a site that earlier contained more than 2,00,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste, the facility contributes to an estimated reduction of 70,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions annually. Mahesh Girdhar, MD & CEO of EverEnviro, said, 'This achievement underscores the viability of industrial-scale bioenergy solutions in addressing urban waste challenges. It reflects effective collaboration across stakeholders and alignment with national climate and sustainability targets. Indore demonstrates what integrated, outcome-driven infrastructure can deliver.' In addition to 20 tonnes per day of CBG, the plant also generates 40 metric tonnes of organic fertilizer daily. The gas is distributed to over 15,000 households through Avantika Gas, Gujarat Gas, and Naveria Gas and is also used to power Indore's city bus fleet. Recognised as a national benchmark, the Indore plant has attracted interest from urban local bodies across India and international delegations from the UK, Nepal and Southeast Asia. The site has also become a hub for students, researchers and policymakers exploring scalable models for waste-to-energy and urban sustainability. The project aligns with India's clean energy and circular economy objectives and supports national initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 and SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation), contributing to India's broader net zero goals.

Mysuru's waste to power clean energy, fuel MCC vehicles
In a major step towards sustainable waste management and clean energy production, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to establish a 150 tonnes per day (TPD) Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at the Vidyaranyapuram Solid Waste Management facility. The MCC said this was Karnataka's first-ever CBG plant agreement under the Government of India's SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative, aimed at converting municipal wet waste into low-emission, renewable fuel. Delving on the capacity and investment, the MCC said the plant would process 150 TPD of organic wet waste with an investment of ₹60–₹66 crore. The initiative targets reduction in landfill usage — Mysuru generates more than 600 TPD of waste — curbing methane emissions, and supplying clean biogas fuel with low emission suitable for municipal vehicles and retail use. The project supports BPCL's SATAT objectives and promotes public sector collaboration for clean fuel transition. The authorities said this was a regional milestone and although similar initiatives were under way in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kozhikode, this is the first such MoU in Karnataka, positioning Mysuru as a pioneer in green energy adoption in the State. Construction of the plant is scheduled to commence next month, with completion and commissioning expected within 24 months. MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif said the CBG plant was a transformative solution for Mysuru's waste and energy needs — reducing landfill load while producing clean fuel and steering the city towards zero-waste sustainability. BPCL Executive Director (Biofuels) P. Anil Kumar said under the SATAT vision, the joint venture with MCC reflected BPCL's commitment to biofuel innovation, environmental stewardship, and supporting India's green transport transition. Organic Recycling Systems launches SEED/Culture Based Pilot Biomethanation Plant
In collaboration with Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy Organic Recycling Systems in collaboration with the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has officially launched a pilot scale SEED/Culture-based biomethanation plant at the Solapur Bioenergy Systems (SBESPL) facility. The initiative represents a landmark advancement in India's pursuit of sustainable and decentralized bioenergy solutions. Designed to validate the THERMI-NIBE microbial consortium, the pilot plant will test the anaerobic digestion of diverse lignocellulosic and organic feedstocks such as Napier grass, agricultural residues, and food/agro-industrial waste, paving the way for scalable Compressed Biogas (CBG) production aligned with the Government of India's SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative.

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) India needs to integrate existing government initiatives related to the biogas sector, Indian Biogas Association said on Thursday. In a white paper launched by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Indian Biogas Association (IBA) advocated for the unification of existing government initiatives - Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT), GOBARDhan, and CBG (compressed biogas) blending - under a single national mission, according to a statement. The IBA released the white paper during the 4th BBB Summit organised in the national capital on Thursday, the association said in the statement. Further, the white paper suggested the need for centralised tracking, standardised performance benchmarking, and integrated funding mechanisms to drive rapid and large-scale deployment of biogas solutions in India. The key recommendations included mandating phase-wise CBG blending across sectors, formulating a green certificate ecosystem, and fast-tracking decentralised biogas Infrastructure. It also proposed the incorporation of incentivising waste segregation and feedstock supply chains, strengthening rural energy access with clean cooking fuel, bridging the skill gap through dedicated workforce programmes and empowering women through biogas micro-enterprises. The integration of biogas into public transport systems and smart building infrastructure will boost the sector, it said. Additionally, it called for promoting biogas as a primary cooking fuel in rural India by introducing targeted subsidies, encouraging the use of LPG-biogas hybrid stoves, and aligning efforts with the Ujjwala Yojana and City Gas Distribution (CGD) networks. "Approximately 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste lack proper scientific treatment and go under-utilised annually, while over 80 per cent of rural households still depend on biomass fuels," IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia said in the statement. Meanwhile, he stated that India imports over 85 per cent of its crude oil, exposing the economy to global price volatility and straining foreign reserves. IBA organised the summit in partnership with Reveille Energy and Indus Exposium. "By harnessing the untapped power of decentralised biogas systems, India can redefine energy equity, empower rural and urban communities alike, and build a circular economy that is regenerative by design," Rohit Dev, Advisor at IBA and MD at Reveille Energy, said. "This white paper presents a pragmatic, multi-stakeholder roadmap to unlock this potential. But policies alone are not enough, and what India needs now is conviction, coordination, and collective action," Dev added.
