Suzanne Kane says she was ‘standing up for herself' after sudden exit from 98FM

Last month, the popular radio DJ stepped away from her 98FM programme with Brian Dowling. The relationship between 98FM's Suzanne Kane and co-host Brian Dowling is said to have broken down Former 98FM star Suzanne Kane has revealed she was 'standing up for herself' in the wake of her abrupt exit from the radio station. The DJ had been hosting the mid-morning show alongside Brian Dowling but had been on leave from the programme since February. Last month, the Dubliner revealed she was stepping away from the show after five years on air. As the Sunday World reported back in April, her absence had been due to a breakdown in her relationship with her former Big Brother star co-host. Speaking to RSVP Magazine, Suzanne did not directly reference the rumoured rift but instead noted how she never likes to be the 'loudest person in the room'. The relationship between 98FM's Suzanne Kane and co-host Brian Dowling is said to have broken down 'I have no want in the world to annihilate anybody. I don't like confrontation or conflict,' she explained. 'I was standing up for myself, it was never about anybody else. My dad passed 20 years ago but he always taught me that you never get your point across when you shout. 'I've learned that you don't have to be the loudest person in the room to be heard. Sometimes saying very little is all you need to say, and you move on to the next bit.' In June, Suzanne broke the silence over the matter with a lengthy Instagram post that she described as a 'life update'. "After nearly 5 years, l'm stepping away from my role presenting 10AM to 1PM on 98FM,' she said at the time. 'Anyone who knows me, will know how much I adore radio and the Bauer family inside Marconi house, but for now, it's time to let the 'Good Times' roll for someone else. 'A word to the amazing team, I loved the madness and radio nerdiness that we all shared and how much we cared. Radio is really special and that's because of the people who do the heavy lifting to make it all come together. I'm glad to have been on this rollercoaster with you all. Suzanne Kane News in 90 Seconds - Thursday, July 3 'To everyone who listened to the show. I loved sharing my life and my kids with the soundest listeners on 98FM. We've been through a lot together & thank you for always turning up for me, it means more than any of you will know. "Lastly, a quick word to my kiddos Oisín, Hannah & Sadie. Thank you for letting me have a go of my dream radio job and playing ball every morning, even the really tough ones, so I could be in front of the mic by 10am and of course, Joey - the voice of support, the constant, the reassurance, who always has the reminder 'We'll figure it out, we always do'.' The mum-of-three has been working in the industry for over two decades and is expected to land a new role in the near future. Alongside his former co-host, Brian Dowling also revealed last month that he too would be departing the 98FM programme in an Instagram post released just minutes after Suzanne's. 'I made the decision earlier in the year that I would not be continuing co-hosting on Brian Dowling & Suzanne Kane on @98fmdublin making this Friday June 6th my very last show on Brian Dowling & Suzanne Kane,' he wrote on social media. "When I joined Suzanne back in March of 2023, I had ZERO radio hosting skills. Blake was only 6 months old & baby Blu was only a twinkle in our eyes. "It took me a minute to get into my new groove, but when I did, WOW, I honestly have had the best time & have genuinely laughed every day; even on those bad days, being part of this show ALWAYS puts a smile on my face. "Here we are now 2 years & 3 months later & I'm still laughing & smiling. I have learned so much about an industry I've been in for nearly 24 years, presenting mainly television shows but now my love for radio easily equals my love for telly.'

Brian Dowling and Suzanne Kane's 98FM replacement hosts unveiled

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The new voices to grace the airwaves of 98FM taking over Brian Dowling and Suzanne Kane's slot have been announced. Big Brother icon Brian stepped away from the show last Friday, capping off a stint that lasted over two years. He shared the mic with Suzanne, who hopped on board in 2021 but had been missing from the airwaves since late February. For the sunny months ahead, Paul Ryder and Leanne Hanafin are set to steer the ship of the former pair's show on 98FM. Paul Ryder, a household name since dazzling Ireland on the talent scene with his drag performance on Ireland's Got Talent in 2018, is also known for guest presenting on Ireland AM and spinning tracks on 98FM during weekends, reports RSVP Live. Leanne, already familiar with the 98FM landscape through her longstanding involvement with the station, has been the go-to substitute for Suzanne Kane in recent times. Leanne broke the news this morning, saying on the broadcast: "Welcome to a brand new show on 98FM. We are so excited to be here with you." Paul chimed in: "We're here for the whole summer. We're going to have three months of absolute fun. We want you to be involved. It's as much your show as it is ours so we can't wait to get cracking." (Image: Instagram/Leanne Hanafin) Brian said his final goodbye to listeners last Friday. In his parting words to the followers of the show, he said: "I'm lucky enough that I meet our listeners on a daily basis. They are the salt of the earth, lovely people and I've had a laugh every single day. "I've never taken the job for granted. I've appreciated every day. I've been sat in front of this mic and I'm being myself. I don't regret any of it. I don't think you should have regrets in life. I took a risk actually taking the job on. I was living in Straffan in Kildare at the time and I don't drive. I've never worked in radio before. "I probably didn't give myself enough credit. I said, 'I signed up for this now and it's two years. What am I going to do?'". To anyone - I joined this show when I was 45 years old. Never be afraid to take a risk. Never be afraid to say yes. I said yes to something that I couldn't do, but I said that I was going to learn how to do it." Suzanne confirmed her departure from 98FM last week. A statement on her Instagram read: "After nearly 5 years, I'm stepping away from my role presenting 10AM to 1PM on 98FM. "Anyone who knows me, will know how much I adore radio and the Bauer family inside Marconi house, but for now, it's time to let the 'Good Times' roll for someone else. 98FM announce replacements following Brian Dowling and Suzanne Kane's shock exit

98FM has revealed the replacement hosts taking over its mid-morning show following the unexpected departure of Brian Dowling and Suzanne Kane. The station's popular 10am to 1pm slot returned this week with a brand-new presenting duo, who will be fronting the show throughout the summer. Taking the reins are Paul Ryder and Leanne Hanafin. Paul, a familiar face from Ireland's Got Talent and Ireland AM, also hosts a weekend show on 98FM. Leanne, a long-time member of the team, had already been filling in on the programme for several months. Speaking on air on Monday morning, Leanne said: 'We are so excited to be here with you.' Paul added: 'We're here for the whole summer. We're going to have three months of absolute fun. We want you to be involved. 'It's as much your show as it is ours, so we can't wait to get cracking.' Their appointment comes after Brian Dowling signed off from the show last Friday, wrapping up just over two years on air. Suzanne Kane, who joined 98FM in 2021, had been absent from the show since February and confirmed her departure last week. Suzanne Kane and Brian Dowling. Suzanne also shared an emotional message on Instagram, thanking listeners and colleagues for their support during her five years at the station: 'To everyone who listened to the show, I loved sharing my life and my kids with the soundest listeners on 98FM. 'Thank you for always turning up for me.' While the long-term future of the show has not yet been confirmed, listeners can expect a lively and engaging few months with the new summer team.
