The 'Step By Step' actress was married to Alan Hamel for 46 years before she passed away in October 2023 at the age of 76 and Alan has recently revealed his new relationship with Somers' former co-star Joanna Cassidy. He told PEOPLE: 'Suzanne and I went on dates a lot, at least once a week, sometimes twice a week. We enjoyed getting dressed up, going to some fancy restaurant, ordering a great bottle of wine, and great candlelight, and sit there and having a good time and look into each other's eyes.' He also revealed that Suzanne urged him to be happy after her death. He said: 'When it was clear that Suzanne was not going to recover in the final days of her life on this planet, before she crossed over, she said to me, 'I don't want you to mope around after I'm gone'. I actually never heard the expression 'mope around' before. I said, 'So you mean I shouldn't sit at home and feel sorry for myself?' She said, 'I want you to live your life. You have a great life. You have a great family. You have great friends. I want you to live your life.' 'The last 42 years of our relationship, we did not spend even one hour apart, and it wasn't planned. We didn't plan it. It just evolved that way. It's pretty strange, relative to most marriages, but it worked for us.' Alan, 89, recently opened up about his new relationship with Joanna, saying: 'I don't know where the relationship is going. I just know that at this very moment, it's wonderful, and the reality is that as the foundational material for a relationship. It should go on for a long time being wonderful.'

Suzanne Somers ' widower Alan Hamel is opening up about the last thing his late wife told him. Somers died on October 15, 2023 at the age of 76 after a battle with cancer. The 88-year-old Canadian entertainer — who just confirmed his new relationship — revealed that his longtime partner wanted him to move forward and enjoy his life without her. 'When it was clear that Suzanne was not going to recover in the final days of her life on this planet, before she crossed over, she said to me, "I don't want you to mope around after I'm gone,"' he told People. He added, 'I actually never heard the expression "mope around" before. I said, "So you mean I shouldn't sit at home and feel sorry for myself?" She said, "I want you to live your life. You have a great life. You have a great family. You have great friends. I want you to live your life."' Hamel will turn 89 on June 30, and explained, 'The last 42 years of our relationship, we did not spend even one hour apart, and it wasn't planned.' The star told People about the date night: 'I thought, I don't want to be sitting out there with one woman because the message that is going to make it into the media possibly is not going to be a good message, so I started dating two women at the same time. 'It was like a year-and-a-half after Suzanne passed, and so that if you saw the three of us sitting in a restaurant having dinner, you'd probably think it was a business meeting. I was fine with that.' And he noted that the outing was not 'romantic': 'What I realized was I absolutely loved having dinner with two great women. There's nothing romantic going on there. They're just really long-term friendly relationships.' He emphasized, 'It was a date in the sense that it was a dinner date at a fancy French restaurant, and I really liked it. So, it was like the three of us experienced dating with different elements involved. When it's one-on-two, it becomes a whole other experience. 'There's nothing to be awkward about it. It's three people who have known each other for many years, having a good time together.' Speaking to Page Six about his new connection with Joanna, the former Hollywood fixture shared, 'I'm fortunate to have Joanna in my life. Most men would love to have a Joanna in their life.' Putting things into perspective, and remembering his spouse, he added, 'I do not know where this relationship is going, but what I do know is that being in the cocktail hour of my life, I am blessed with a — thanks to incredible Suzanne — a privileged life, and our business that we created 50 years ago.'

The former Canadian TV presenter, who was married to the 'Three's Company' star for nearly 50 years, confirmed to Page Six Wednesday that he's dating actor Joanna Cassidy, who co-starred with Somers in the 1985 miniseries 'Hollywood Wives.' Somers died in 2023 at the age of 76after battling breast cancer on and off for five decades. Although Somers worked with Cassidy in the past, so had Hamel. He noted to Page Six that Cassidy appeared on his former daytime talk show in the 1970s. 'I have known Joanna Cassidy for over 45 years,' he told the outlet. 'Joanna was a guest star on 'The Alan Hamel Show' in Canada in the '70s. She was a great guest, and it was a dynamic show, and we liked each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect. Both of us were married at the time.' Although Hamel admitted he doesn't 'know where this relationship is going' yet with Cassidy, he did reveal how the pair recently reconnected. 'My son [Stephen] met Joanna at a screening and after a long conversation suggested to Joanna that she and me would get along and should meet,' Hamel said. 'Stephen did not know we knew each other.' Hamel also spoke highly of Cassidy, a former model who had memorable roles in 1982's 'Blade Runner,' 1988's 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit,' and 1991's 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.' 'Joanna is extremely accomplished,' he said. 'She is easily the hardest-working and most active actress in Hollywood for well over 50 years. She's a great mother to her adult children, turns up for many fundraisers for first responders and is staff for her four cats. She is no Hollywood BS, and we laugh a lot.' Hamel, 88, previously told Page Six that the 'Step by Step' alum told him towards the end of her life that she wanted him to move on after she died. Suzanne Somers ' widower Alan Hamel has confirmed he is dating her former co-star, less than two years after her death. On Monday the entertainer, 88, was spotted arm-in-arm with 79-year-old Joanna Cassidy, who starred alongside Suzanne on the 1985 miniseries Hollywood Wives, in Malibu. 'I don't know where this relationship is going,' he told Page Six of the new romance. And he told the outlet he's known Cassidy for more than four decades. 'Joanna was a guest star on [daytime talk show] The Alan Hamel Show in Canada in the 70s. She was a great guest and it was a dynamic show, and we liked each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect. Both of us were married at the time,' Hamel recalled. Somers died on October 15, 2023 at the age of 76 after a battle with cancer. Alan went on to explain that he and Joanna met again while she filmed Hollywood Wives with Suzanne. 'I ran into her in the mid-80s many times during the production of Jackie Collins' Hollywood Wives. It was very cordial,' the television host said. He credits his son Stephen Hamel with bringing them together this time around. 'My son met Joanna at a screening and after a long conversation suggested to Joanna that she and me would get along and should meet,' he said, clarifying, that his son didn't know they already knew each other. Alan noted that his late wife Suzanne encouraged him to move forward with his life in her final days. He said she told him, 'Don't mope around. Live your life. We will see one another after you cross over.' The Canadian producer went on to describe his current partner as 'extremely accomplished' and 'easily the hardest-working and most active actress in Hollywood for well over 50 years.' 'She's a great mother to her adult children, turns up for many fundraisers for first responders and is staff for her four cats. She is no Hollywood BS, and we laugh a lot,' he raved. He continued: 'I'm fortunate to have Joanna in my life. Most men would love to have a Joanna in their life.' He added, 'Suzanne and I were so close that she said when I wasn't in the room she would miss me and I would miss her too — even though we were in the same house. 'We would actually go to sleep holding each other's hands which was so special to me.'
