Modi lauds Odisha's devotional singers for awareness campaign against forest fires
Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday drew the attention of the country towards the environmental awareness campaign against forest fires undertaken by 'Radhakrishna Sankirtan Mandali', a group of devotional singers from Keonjhar district, who are spreading the message of conservation through traditional songs and music. The Prime Minister highlighted the group's unique initiative during his address on the 124th episode of the monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' programme. 'The most beautiful glimpse of India's diversity is found in our folk songs and traditions, and our bhajans and kirtans are a part of this. But have you ever heard that people are made aware of forest fires through kirtans? You may not believe it, but amazing work is happening in Keonjhar district of Odisha. Here, there is a group named Radhakrishna Sankirtan Mandali,' said Modi. The Prime Minister also praised the leader Pramila Pradhan, who spearheaded the unique and novel effort against forest fire in her locality. 'Along with devotion, today, this group is also chanting the mantra of environmental protection. The inspiration behind this initiative is Pramila Pradhan ji. To protect the forest and the environment, she has added new lyrics and new messages to traditional songs. Her troupe went from village to village. Through songs, people were made to understand how much damage forest fires cause,' he added. The example of Pramila and her troupe of devotional singers, the 'Radhakrishna Sankirtan Mandali', reminds one that folk traditions are not relics of the past, but they still have the power to give direction to society. During his 'Mann ki Baat' address, Modi also mentioned the 'National Handloom Day' observed on August 7 every year to commemorate Swadeshi Movement, which began on August 7, 1905. He said this year, August 7 marks the completion of 10 years of 'National Handloom Day'. While highlighting numerous efforts by people across the country to revive traditional handlooms and the revolution in the textile sector that took place during the last 10 years, Modi praised the efforts by tribal women in Mayurbhanj district to revive the traditional Santhali saree. 'There is a similar success story in Mayurbhanj. Here, more than 650 tribal women have revived the Santhali saree. Now these women are earning thousands of rupees every month. They are not just making cloth, but also carving their own identity. The achievement of Naveen Kumar from Nalanda, Bihar, is also inspiring. His family has been associated with this work for generations,' added Modi.

Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi commends growth in space sector, ‘Over 200 startups have come up'
Praising astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's return from space, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that a new wave of interest in space is rising among children across India. He noted that over 200 startups have already emerged in the country's space sector. 1. During his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio address, Modi said that the path to a developed India (Viksit Bharat) lies in self-reliance, adding that the 'Vocal for Local' initiative forms the strongest foundation of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. 2. "Recently, there was a lot of discussion in the country about the return of Shubhanshu Shukla from space. As soon as Shubhanshu landed safely on Earth, people jumped with joy, and a wave of happiness ran through every heart. The whole country was filled with pride," he said, adding, 'there were fewer than 50 startups five years ago. Today, there are more than 200 startups in the space sector alone.' 3. Stressing the 'Swadesh Movement', PM stated that a new revolution began on August 7, 1905. 'The Swadeshi Movement infused new energy into local products, particularly handlooms. In this memory, the country celebrates National Handloom Day on 7th August every textile sector is becoming a strength of the country. Kavita Dhawale from Maharashtra's Paithan village used to work in a small room with no space and facilities. With the government's help, she earns a living by selling self-woven Paithani sarees,' he added. 4. PM Narendra Modi said, 'Sometimes the most radiant light emerges from where darkness dwells the most. One such example is the Gumla district of Jharkhand. There was a time when this area was known for Maoist violence. The villages of the Basia block were getting deserted. People lived in the shadow of fear. There was no possibility of employment, lands were lying vacant and the youth were migrating... but then, a change began quietly and with a lot of patience. A young man named Om Prakash Sahu ji left the path of violence. He started fish farming. Then he inspired many friends like himself to do the same…' 5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the efforts of the Gomti River team in Lucknow. 'It is important to mention that for the past 10 years, every Sunday without fail, this dedicated team has been tirelessly working to clean the river. Here, women were imparted training in waste management, and together, they changed the face of the city. The example of Panaji city in Goa is also inspiring. There, waste is divided into 16 categories and that is also being led by women. Panaji has even received the President's award. Cleanliness is not a one-time, one-day task. Only when we accord priority to cleanliness every day, every moment of the year, will the country remain clean.' 6. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, 'In this year's budget, the Government of India has launched a historic initiative, the 'Gyan Bharatam Mission'. As part of this mission, ancient manuscripts will be digitised.' He added, 'Then a National Digital Repository will be created, where students and researchers from all over the world will be able to connect with India's knowledge tradition. I also urge all of you that if you are associated with any such effort, or want to join, then definitely contact MyGov or the Ministry of Culture. These are not just manuscripts, these are the chapters of India's soul, which we have to teach to the coming generations.' 7. Speaking on the waste management in the hills, PM said that the people of Kirtinagar in Uttarakhand are setting a new example. He noted, 'Similarly, organic waste management is being done with the help of technology in Mangaluru. There is a small city called Roing in Arunachal. There was a time when waste management was a big challenge confronting the health of the people there. The people there took responsibility for it. 'Green Roing Initiative' was started and then an entire park was created from recycled waste. Similarly, many new examples of water management have been set in Karad and Vijayawada. The cleanliness at the River Front in Ahmedabad has also caught everyone's attention.' 8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the 'Khelo Bharat Niti 2025' has received widespread appreciation, and added that its clear objective is to transform India into a global sporting superpower. 'Villages, the poor and daughters are the priority of this policy. Schools and colleges will now make sports a part of everyday life. Startups related to sports, whether in sports management or manufacturing, will be supported in every way. Imagine how much strength the mission of self-reliance would gain when the youth of the country would play with self-made racket, bat and ball,' he added. 9. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the World Police and Fire Games, held this time in the United States, saw India make history by winning nearly 600 medals. 'We reached the top three out of 71 2029, these games will be held in India. Players from all over the world will come to our country. We will showcase to them India's hospitality and introduce them to our sports culture,' he added. These are not just manuscripts, these are the chapters of India's soul. 10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted a Bhopal-based group called 'Positive Thinking', comprising 200 women who are not only involved in cleanliness efforts but are also working to change mindsets. 'Cleaning 17 parks of the city together, distributing cloth bags, every step of theirs is a message. Because of such efforts, Bhopal has now come a long way in the Swachh Survey,' he added. When Chandrayaan 3 was success, there was excitement in the country. Space startups are increasing. on August 23, there is National Space Day, you should send suggestions on Namo App," the Prime Minister said. "In 1908 in Muzaffarpur, a youth was to be hanged. He was not in fear, his face was full of confidence, he was Khudiram Bose, at the age of 18, he had shaken the country. After many such sacrifices, we had got the freedom. The month of August is a month of revolution. On August 15, we remember our freedom fighters," PM Modi said. A new revolution started on 7 August 1905. The Swadeshi Movement infused new energy into local products, particularly handlooms. In this memory, the country celebrates National Handloom Day on 7th August every textile sector is becoming a strength of the country. Kavita Dhawale from Mahrashtra's Paithan village used to work in a small room with no space and facilities. With the government's help, she earns a living by selling self-woven Paithani sarees... In Odisha's Mayurbhanj, there is a similar story. Tribal Women gave a new life to Santhali achievements of Naveen Kumar from Bihar's Nalanda is also inspiring,"PM Modi said. India is moving ahead for Olympics and Olympiad. UNESCO has recognised 12 forts in Maharashtra. These are witness to the history... I had gone to Raigad sometime back, the experience will remain with me. These forts exhibit our self-respect. There are many forts across the country... I urge the people to visit these forts," the Prime Minister said. "Women are reviving Santhali Sarees... Textiles sector is our cultural heritage. More than 3,000 startups are there in the country. The dream for Viksit Bharat by 2047 is very much related to Atmanirbharta, vocal for local is required. The folk songs exhibit the culture of our country," PM Modi said. "We need to scripts of present and past, we need to conserve them. There have been people who made this job their life... Mani Maaran from Tamil Nadu is teaching 'pandulipi', research is happening. If it is translated across the country, the old knowledge will become relevant in present times," PM Modi said. Something remarkable is happening in Odisha's Keonjhar. There is a group called 'Radha Krishna Sankirtan'. Along with devotion, this group also chants mantras promoting environmental conservation. The inspiration behind this step is Pramila Pradhan. Her group visited many villages and spread awareness about forest fires," the Prime Minister said "If I ask about birds in vicinity, you would say that 4-5 species you spot, but we need to know about birds in vicinity. At Assam's Kaziranga National Park, there are grassland birds, there are more than 40 species, technology helped, census team recorded voices, used AI, to recognise the species. When technology and sensitivity come together, everything becomes easy," PM Modi said. "Sports is being promoted in the country. The government will be supporting. CPI MP urges President to recall Kerala Governor over 'unconstitutional conduct'
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) MP P Sandosh Kumar on Friday urged President Droupadi Murmu to recall Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, accusing him of 'unconstitutional conduct' over the display of a perticular version of the Bharat Mata image without consulting the state government. In a letter addressed to the President, Kumar expressed grave concern over the Governor's unilateral decision to display a particular version of the Bharat Mata image during the Environment Day event at the Raj Bhavan in Kerala without any consultation with the elected state government. 'This imposition compelled the State Agriculture Minister P. Prasad to boycott the function, exposing yet again the partisan role being played by Governors in non-BJP ruled states,' Kumar said. 'This is not an isolated case. Governors in several states are increasingly behaving like political agents of the BJP-RSS, openly defying the constitutional framework that demands neutrality, restraint, and respect for elected governments,' said Shri P. Sandosh Kumar. He added that the symbolic manipulation of Bharat Mata-a historically secular and anti-colonial figure- into a sectarian and ideological emblem is a dangerous distortion that cannot be accepted in state functions or constitutional offices. 'They also potentially contravene the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950, and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, by misusing national symbols for political or sectarian purposes. The Bharat Mata image, originally envisioned by Abanindranath Tagore during the Swadeshi Movement as a unifying emblem of anti-colonial resistance, has in recent years been altered and weaponised by an organisation notorious for its divisive politics,' Sandosh Kumar said. 'At a time when cooperative federalism should be the guiding principle of Centre-State relations, such provocations by Governors erode public trust and tarnish the office they occupy,' he said. He concluded by calling for urgent intervention from the President. 'I urge you to take serious note of this trend and take immediate steps to ensure that Governors do not overstep their constitutional mandate. The Governor of Kerala Rajendra Arlekar, by acting in an openly partisan and unconstitutional manner, has diminished the dignity of the office and should be recalled. The Raj Bhavans must remain neutral, constitutional spaces--not ideological shakhas. I hope this matter will find your much necessary intervention,' Kumar said. (ANI)
