Swalwell: ICE agents would ‘have more credibility' without masks

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) on Wednesday criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents for wearing masks as they carry out the Trump administration's escalating crackdown on illegal immigration. 'These ICE agents would do themselves a lot of favor and have more credibility if they did not wear masks and they identified themselves more, because if they are standing on lawfulness, they shouldn't be afraid to show their faces,' Swalwell told NewsNation's Chris Cuomo on his show. 'And so that part bothers me as well, that they, no other law enforcement agency, operates routinely the way that they're doing this, and it's terrorizing people,' he added. Since his return to the White House, President Trump has ramped up arrests and deportations of undocumented immigrants and foreign students — policies often carried out by masked ICE agents in plain clothes. The directives and tactics have drawn heated backlash from Democrats and immigrant advocates. In a Monday letter, a group of Senate Democrats pressed ICE on uniform and masking protocol. 'We write regarding the apparent widespread violations of historical norms and traditions in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's ('ICE') operations in Los Angeles and across the country by engaging in law enforcement activities—including arrests—without wearing identifying uniforms and while masked,' the lawmakers wrote. In their letter, the group of Democrats questioned ICE on its 'policies with regards to wearing masks while on duty' and its 'policies with regards to wearing uniforms or other identifiable markers while on duty.' Swalwell, in response to a post from television personality Geraldo Rivera on the social platform X in which he questioned the masking of ICE agents, said Tuesday that 'real cops don't wear masks.' The Hill has reached out to ICE for comment.

People Cannot Believe Donald Trump Made This "Cartoon Villian" Post For Juneteenth

Yesterday was Juneteenth — a holiday commemorating the freedom of enslaved people in the rebelling states of the US. June 19 was made a federal holiday by former President Joe Biden, allowing Americans to gather yearly for Juneteenth celebration events across the nation. Well, one person was noticeably quiet throughout the day — President Donald Trump. His silence prompted reporters to question the White House's stance on Juneteenth during the daily press briefing. "Does the president plan to commemorate the holiday at all or make any comment?" one reporter asked. "I'm not tracking his signature on a proclamation today. I know this is a federal holiday," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. "I want to thank all of you for showing up to work. We are certainly here. We are working 24/7 right now." Here's his full post: Related: MAGA Really, Really, Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Doesn't Like This Army Vet's Now-Viral Speech In response, Democratic lawmaker Swalwell questioned why Trump made this post on Juneteenth specifically, as it's one of many "non-working holidays" Americans recognize. Another person described Trump's post as "cartoon villian stuff." "This is funny coming from someone who leaves work every Thursday afternoon to spend 3 days golfing," another user joked. Sports writer Jemele Hill sarcastically praised Trump's ability or lack thereof to "read the room." "Juneteenth isn't political. It's not 'woke,' whatever that is. It's a simple commemoration of the end of slavery. The fact that Trump can't even celebrate slavery ending is very on brand for MAGA," this user wrote. What are your thoughts? Charlamagne grills Eric Swalwell on whether Dems can be trusted after they ‘lied to us so long' about Biden

Radio host Charlamagne tha God spoke to Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., on Tuesday, asking how Democrats can expect Americans to trust them again after covering for President Joe Biden's questionable health for so long. Nearly a year after then-President Biden relinquished the Democratic Party's nomination, the cover-up of his purported decline continues to be a national controversy. When Swalwell argued many figures in politics are acting as accomplices to President Donald Trump, Charlamagne replied he should take a look at his own party. 'But isn't that all of y'all, though?' the host asked. 'I don't think so, I hope not,' Swalwell replied. 'I just finished reading the 'Original Sin,'' Charlamagne noted, referring to the new book by CNN's Jake Tapper and Axios' Alex Thompson that outlines the president's alleged mental decline in office and cover-up. 'So when I hear you talk, I'm like, well, what was the Democrats' excuse when they chose to be accomplices in the cover-up of Biden's physical and mental decline? It's the same thing. Y'all got on television and pretended to act like everything was fine, knowing behind the scenes he was not the one.' 4 Charlamagne asked Swalwell how Democrats can expect Americans to trust them again after covering for Joe Biden's health for so long. 4 Swalwell argued many figures in politics are acting as accomplices to President Donald Trump. 'I don't think many of us were behind the scenes, to be honest,' Swalwell said. 'I didn't spend much time with President Biden behind the scenes.' Charlamagne declared he spent zero time with Biden whatsoever, but nonetheless saw there were issues. 'You have your two eyes. I got it. I got it,' Swalwell answered, going on to argue there is a fundamental difference between how Biden and Trump acted in office. 4 Joe Biden looks on as he participates in the first presidential debate of the 2024 elections on June 27, 2024. 'Why should we ever trust the Democratic Party after they lied to us [for] so long about President Biden?' the host asked. 'And I'm big on this, because I just read the 'Original Sin' and I'm just like… I think that Democrats have tried every strategy except for two things, honesty and courage.' 4 Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) speaks during the Hands Off! day of action against the Trump administration and Elon Musk on April 5 in Washington, DC. Getty Images for Community Change Action 'Yeah, well, there's a lot of people who are courageous right now in the Democratic Party. Our bread-and-butter issue, our 'dance with the one that brought ya' is healthcare,' the congressman replied. 'People have always trusted us on healthcare.' Later in the discussion, Charlamagne recalled a decisive moment in the 2024 election when then-Vice President Kamala Harris declined to differentiate herself from Biden during an appearance on 'The View.' 'Vice President Kamala Harris, the reason she did that on 'The View' is because nobody wanted to piss Biden off,' Charlamagne said. 'Biden wanted his legacy to be intact. You can read the 'Original Sin' and see that he cares more about his legacy and his ego and how the Biden name is perceived than anything.' The host continued, 'He put himself over the party and the future of America, so she didn't want to break away from that. I bet you she had staunch marching orders: 'Do not break away from Biden, don't make his legacy look crazy.''

Rep. Eric Swalwell Inspires MAGA Tizzy Fit By... Eating A Taco

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) trolled the hell out of Donald Trump and his supporters this past weekend just by eating a taco on TikTok. The California Democrat posted a video of himself sitting in his office when someone walks up and asks, 'Hey, Congressman, what the fuck is up with Trump always chickening out on tariffs?' Swalwell responds by biting into a Taco Bell crunchy taco that just happens to be sitting on his desk. The video alludes to TACO, or 'Trump Always Chickens Out,' a reference to the president's tendency to announce huge tariffs, only to reverse course days later. The notoriously thin-skinned president doesn't seem fond of the acronym and chewed out a reporter for asking 'a nasty question' about it last week. Swalwell's taco TikTok made quite an impact with conservatives. Some suggested the video was part of the Democratic National Committee's plan to attract more male voters to the party. Fox News' 'Outnumbered' even did a segment on it. Swalwell seemed amused by the attention, tweeting, 'I don't know what this Fox News lady ate for lunch, but she's talking about what I had.' Other Trump supporters got into a MAGA tizzy over Swalwell's video. A couple of right-wing outlets, probably well aware of the trending term, apparently decided that feigning ignorance was the right way to go. Others felt obliged to reference an MSNBC interview between Swalwell and Chris Matthews from November 2019, in which a fart sound could be heard at one point. Although Trump supporters tried to dismiss the trolling, 'Trump Always Chickens Out' is catching on, according to one conservative thought leader. Rick Lowry of the National Review appeared on Fox News Sunday and admitted 'TACO' is sticking, much to Trump's chagrin. 'Apparently, Trump was irritated in part because he hadn't heard it, and afterwards was irked with his aides not telling him about this,' Lowry said, before admitting that the 'TACO' insult is 'catchy, kind of funny and gets to a real phenomenon with the tariffs, which [is that] he's backed off them.'
