Take steps to improve industrial output in Udupi district, DC Swaroopa tells stakeholders
Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa expressed concern on Thursday over the reduced industrial output in Udupi district, from ₹2496.23 crore in 2023-24 to ₹1,930.33 crore. Naturally, the output should continue to increase year by year, she said, urging officials and stakeholders to seriously examine the reasons and improve performance in the current year. The DC was chairing meetings of Kaigarika Spanadana, the single-window export promotion committee, and the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Scheme at the Rajatadri District Office Complex in Manipal. The export of marine products declined from 1,07,989 tonnes worth ₹1,726.25 crore to 76,531 tonnes worth ₹1,084.79 crore, she pointed out, asking the Fisheries Department to extend all necessary support to entrepreneurs to improve marine exports. The DC asked the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to cancel the licenses issued to ready-mix concrete units at Shivalli Industrial Area, as they were causing air and water pollution. The RMC units have been established on plots originally allocated to industrial units after the allottees leased them out, she noted. Ms. Swaroopa asked the officials concerned to take steps to obtain a margin money of ₹14.55 crore for 387 units under the PMEGP. In all, margin money of ₹20.25 crore should have been released to 558 units, but only ₹5.7 crore for 171 units were released so far, she said. Stating that the non-commencement of activity, despite being allotted industrial plots by entrepreneurs, denies employment opportunities to local youth, the DC cautioned that if entrepreneurs do not start activities in a time-bound manner, the allotment would be cancelled. Joint Director of Industries, Nagaraj V. Nayak, Small Industries Association president, Harish Kundar, and others were present.
