In a statement here, Mr. Heggade said the Akhil Karnataka Janajagruthi Vedike formed by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has been holding awareness campaigns against addiction to alcohol and other substances for the last 33 years. Many prominent personalities have joined hands with him in this initiative of building an addiction-free society.
For the last 17 years, SKDRDP has been holding awareness programmes on addictions to tobacco and drugs in educational institutions and has trained 1,145 resource persons across the State. Observing International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as 'Swasthya Sankalpa Abhiyana,' the project has been organising over 3,000 awareness programmes in institutions every year so as to reach at least 3 lakh students.
So far, the project has conducted 20,675 such programmes and reached 17.51 lakh students. Everyone, including teachers would be administered the oath of Swasthya Sankalpa on the occasion. The project sets apart ₹50 lakh annually to conduct these programmes, he said.
