'I could not possibly discard the embryo': Lee Si-young pregnant with second child through IVF months after divorce , Entertainment News
Lee Si-young, who divorced her husband in March, has revealed she is pregnant with her second child in an Instagram post on Tuesday (July 8). The South Korean actress said she underwent in vitro fertilisation (IVF) during her marriage but the transferring of the fertilised embryo was done after their divorce. She added her ex did not consent to the second pregnancy. "Eight years ago when I had (my son) Jung-yoon, who is now the most precious person in my life, I was not married and was filming a drama. Back then, I was younger than I am now and had many shortcomings. And every time I watched Jung-yoon in my arms, I regretted and blamed myself for the time I spent anxiously and negatively. "That's why I promised myself that if I ever get another chance at life, I would never repeat the same regrets." Si-young married businessman Cho Seong-hyun, 52, in 2017 and their son was born in 2018. The 43-year-old added: "A long time had passed without transferring the fertilised embryo, and naturally, we began discussing a divorce. After we settled all legal ties, the five-year storage period for the embryo was reaching an end, and I had to make a decision. I decided to receive it." She said her ex did not consent to it and she will hold full responsibility for her decision, adding: "I could not possibly discard the embryo whose storage period was about to end." Si-young called her choice a "meaningful decision" and that she's grateful for the new life. Her due date was not specified. In response, her ex-husband Cho told South Korean media Dispatch that he initially did not agree to the second pregnancy as they were divorced but added: "Since a life has already been created, I will fulfil my responsibilities as a father." He noted that the pair have been communicating frequently due to Jung-yoon and said: "We will do our best to fulfil our respective roles by discussing the necessary matters related to giving birth and raising a second child." Si-young rose to fame after acting in the K-drama series Boys Over Flowers (2009) and has starred in Sweet Home (2020 to 2024) and two seasons of reality show Zombieverse (2023 and 2024). She is currently starring in Salon de Holmes, an action-comedy series about four neglected housewives turned amateur sleuths. She travelled to Singapore in December last year with her son, visiting Universal Studios Singapore, Gardens by the Bay and other attractions.
