Joe Bonamassa might be the king of vintage gear – but most of his pedalboard is off the shelf
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Joe Bonamassa's penchant for acquiring high-end vintage electric guitar gear and his in-depth knowledge of how to best use his gear is no secret. That makes his humble pedalboard – which is largely made up of off-the-shelf stock – more surprising. Built largely from standard-issue pedals acquired from US music giant Sweetwater, it's a 'board that anyone with a modest budget can recreate, and he's lifted the lid on some of his pedal picks in the new issue of Guitarist. '[They're] standard issue,' he confirms when asked about his relatively straightforward stompbox setup. 'I buy them out of Sweetwater.' There are a few outliers among the bunch, though, but nothing that compares to the sheer exclusively of his wider vintage guitar and amp rig. 'There's a Tube Screamer that is either an '80 or an '81,' he says of his chosen TS, similar examples of which are circa $400 secondhand. 'A Micro Pog ($245) and a Fuzz Face ($170) that goes through the [Fender] Twin [amps]. Then the switcher and the wah and the Fulltone [Supa-] Trem ($279) and a Way Huge Conspiracy Theory.' The latter is a Klon copy that Bonamassa collaborated on. At the time of its launch, he said they were 'virtually identical' to the real thing, and the $189 units sold out in double quick time. Elsewhere, his Silver Jubilee Marshall heads are partnered with a now-discontinued Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere, which he's called 'a fake Leslie [speaker]'. They fetch around $400-600 on the secondhand market. That sits alongside an interchangeable Boss DD-2 delay (circa $200 secondhand). Boss' DD-2 delay was released in the early '80s but was later replaced by the DD-3, which is readily available and costs $154 brand new. Second-hand DD-2's are also affordable. It's an uncharacteristically modest 'board, especially when one considers it's often paired with what Bonamassa has described as 'the world's most expensive three-channel amp.' Nevertheless, it's an encouraging development for those wanting a little JoBo flavor in their own live rigs, but who have just a fraction of his budget to spend. The other non-standard pedals are also replaceable with Sweetwater stock – the Rotosphere could be swapped out for a TC Electronic Vibraclone ($99) or a Strymon Lex ($349), for instance, and a contemporary Ibanez TS808 costs just $169. 'The rest of it's just junction boxes,' Bonamassa expands. 'Inputs for the amps, and a junction box to get to the switcher and out, and then there are the two boxes that power everything.' His rig rundown comes after he broke down his best gear-buying advice with the Guitarist. Choosing the right amp for your next gig, he says, can come at a cut price, while he says players shouldn't let external pressures influence what electric guitar they splash the cash on. 'At some point in time, we may have to get our head around the fact that these things we trade will be worth absolutely nothing,' he says. 'If you're sitting on the couch and you can't stop grabbing a guitar, it doesn't matter what it says on the headstock. It doesn't matter how much you paid for it.' FBI, FDLE investigating robbery, police shooting that injured 2 after pursuit ends in Medley, police say
Two people were taken to a local hospital Friday morning after a reported robbery and police shooting, following a police pursuit that started in Sweetwater and ended in Medley, Sweetwater police said. A third person was taken into custody, officials said. Authorities from multiple agencies, including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the FBI, are now investigating. Police: Officers interrupted robbery in progress At a press conference held Thursday afternoon, Sweetwater Police Chief Sergio Diez and department spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta details about the incident, which began around 10:50 a.m. at a warehouse near Northwest 108th Avenue and 17th Street. Zabaleta explained that Sweetwater officers responded immediately to multiple 911 calls reporting a possible armed robbery in progress. "Once they got here, they confronted the subjects that were committing this crime," Zabaleta said. "Shots were fired. There was a police chase that ensued thereafter that took officers northbound and it ended in the city of Medley, where the three subjects were apprehended." One suspect shot, another hospitalized According to Zabaleta, one of the apprehended individuals was found with an apparent gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital in stable condition. "There was a second person that was also transported, not related to any gun violence or any gunshots, however, still was requesting some medical attention and he's listed in stable condition," he added. "A third individual still remains in custody here as part of the investigation." Zabaleta emphasized that the FBI is now leading the investigation into the robbery itself. Police chief: "Today is a good day" Chief Diez noted that no officers were injured in the incident. "So, today is a good day, because none of my officers were hurt," Diez said. "We were able to arrive in the progress of a robbery and that's what police does. We try to apprehend the bad guys, make sure that our victims are safe. So, for me, today, I had a good day, because none of my officers were hurt." Diez said that FDLE is handling the police shooting aspect of the investigation and that some officers involved are currently being interviewed.

Sweetwater community continues to rally together with cleanup day after EF-0 tornado
SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WATE) — Just over a week ago, an EF-0 tornado that swept through Sweetwater within the blink of an eye. On Saturday, a 'Community Cleanup Day' brought together dozens of volunteers working to help a visible difference in the recovery effort. On Holt Road, major cleanup efforts are finally underway. Craig and Callie Brackett, who own a large piece of property that was damaged, are also active members of the Loudon County Fire Rescue Squad. So, when the call for help came, their fellow first responders showed up in full force. Five injured after EF-0 tornado in Loudon County 'They're very helpful to the department, they're very helpful to the community. They're just great people, and when we saw that this is one of our own, then we needed to rally together and come out and help,' said Michael Hodge the Assistant Chief for Loudon County Fire Rescue. And it wasn't just the rescue squad that showed up, family, friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers came out to help with the cleanup. From cutting down trees to picking up insulation and other debris everyone shared a common goal – to help residents return to normal life. 'Well, it's always encouraging to see family and friends and just maybe people who aren't friends that just wanted to come out to volunteer. Thankful to have all this help out here today and glad I could be here to do it. Good health is a blessing of God, and there's a lot of people working really hard this morning,' said volunteer Brett Ward who is also a family friend of Craig and Callie. Sweetwater residents supporting each other after tornado in Loudon County While there still more work to be done in the coming weeks, even months, volunteers say they are ready to step up again whenever they are needed. 'It did do a lot more damage than most people know. There's a good community outpouring here. The volunteer state…. I mean, that's what we're known for volunteering, and you can see it out here, just when people need somebody they come in and help and Craig and Callie Brackett are the prime example of that.' added Hodge. This is just the beginning of a long cleanup journey for the residents on Holt Road. Brackett projects it to take many months but shares he is grateful for the help from the community. IREN (NasdaqGS:IREN) Surges 48% in One Month After Strong Q3 Earnings
IREN recently reported strong third-quarter financial results, with a marked increase in sales and net income compared to the previous year, which stands out as a potential influence on the company's impressive 48% share price rise over the past month. While this growth in earnings is notable, the overall market environment also played a role, with a 1.8% market rise over the last seven days and a 13% increase over the past 12 months. Although IREN's nine-month results reveal ongoing challenges, recent positive earnings may have bolstered investor confidence, adding weight to the broader market's upward trend. We've spotted 3 weaknesses for IREN you should be aware of, and 2 of them are a bit concerning. The end of cancer? These 23 emerging AI stocks are developing tech that will allow early identification of life changing diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's. The recent strong quarterly earnings announcement for IREN (NasdaqGS:IREN) underscores the company's efforts to reshape its business strategy amid changing market conditions. The shift from primarily focusing on volatile cryptocurrency mining to expanding AI and cloud infrastructure could potentially stabilize earnings and boost margins over the long term. This business transformation is echoed in the robust total shareholder return of 102.28% over the past three years, showcasing a significant appreciation in shareholder value. Despite this impressive growth, IREN's shares have underperformed the US Software industry, which saw a 22.6% increase over the last year, highlighting the challenges inherent in its core operations. As IREN pivots towards new growth catalysts like the Childress and Sweetwater projects, the potential for revenue growth remains strong, driven by global demand for digital infrastructure. Analysts forecast a revenue growth of 52.0% annually over the next three years, suggesting promising prospects for near-future profitability transformation. It is essential to consider the recent share price increase in relation to the consensus analyst price target of US$18.52, which exceeds the current price of US$8.89 by 52.0%. This differential indicates a substantial potential for upward revaluation if IREN achieves forecasted growth targets. However, the company's reliance on crypto mining and its ambitious expansion introduce unavoidable risks that could impact these valuations. As always, investors should weigh both the opportunities and uncertainties when considering the company's future trajectory. Our comprehensive valuation report raises the possibility that IREN is priced lower than what may be justified by its financials. This article by Simply Wall St is general in nature.
