Former Carlisle United striker joins Swiss top-flight club

Former Carlisle United forward Luke Plange has made another overseas move. He has signed for Swiss top-flight outfit Grasshopper Club Zurich. Ex-United loan man Plange, 22, was released by Crystal Palane last month, having previously had a loan spell with Finnish side HJK Helsinki. He has now signed a three-year deal with Grasshopper, who are preparing for the 2025/26 season in the Swiss Super League. They finished second-bottom last season and avoided relegation in the play-offs. INTERVIEW | New Carlisle United signing Junior Luamba: 'I want to excite the fans, get them off their seat' Plange has already featured for the club in pre-season friendlies against Vaduz, Sion and Rapperswil. Grasshopper sporting director Alain Sutter, the former Switzerland star, said: "Plange impressed us during the pre-season, both in training and in friendly matches. "He's a reliable goalscorer with plenty of playing experience who can support us in attack." Former Carlisle United midfielder training to become a referee Plange himself told the club website he was happy to sign and "already feel at home here in Zurich." The former Derby County man had a 26-game spell with Carlisle in the first half of the 2023/24 League One season. He scored two goals in that time under Paul Simpson after joining the Cumbrians on loan from Crystal Palace. He spent a spell on loan at Motherwell last season before his time at Palace came to a permanent end. Report – Sassuolo Rival Club Brugge To Sign Teenage Inter Milan Midfielder

Sassuolo are reportedly ready to try and hijack the move by Club Brugge for Inter Milan midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic. This according to Belgian outlet Voetbal24, via FCInter1908. They report that Brugge are worried that if the move stalls too far, then Sassuolo will take their chance. Inter Milan midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic spent last season on loan with Swiss club Luzern. The 19-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding campaign. So much so that he has even been tipped to win the midfielder of the year award for the Swiss Super League. Luzern had a purchase option on Aleksandar Stankovic. They can sign the Serb on a permanent basis for a fee of €1.5 million. However, Inter in turn had a buyback clause, and can bring Stankovic back immediately. Sassuolo Rival Club Brugge For Aleksandar Stankovic Belgian giants Club Brugge have reportedly come to the head of the queue to sign Stankovic this summer. The Belgians have spent the past few weeks pursuing the young Serb. Reports indicate that the two clubs have come close to an agreement. They have agreed on a €10 million fee or so. However, the talks continue to drag on, reportedly over disagreements regarding a buyback option for Inter. And according to Voetbal24, Brugge are worried that they could miss out. The Belgian outlet report that Sassuolo, above all, are keen to hijack to deal for Stankovic. The Neroverdi are back in Serie A after a season away. And they see the Serb as a target to bolster their squad for the top flight after their promotion last season.

Hibs new record signing Thibault Klidjé's career so far

Togo international Thibault Klidjé has become David Gray's fourth summer signing. The 24-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Club and will join the Hibs following international clearance and work permit approval. Born in Hahotoé, Togo, Klidjé began his football career with Togolese outfits Espoir Tsevie and Gomido before making his first move to Europe. He signed for Girondins de Bordeaux in 2020, initially featuring prominently for the French club's B Team. Seven goals in 11 league matches in the lower divisions during the 2021/22 season was enough to convince David Guion to give Klidjé his first chance in the top flight. Though financial mismanagement saw Bordeaux relegated at the end of the campaign, Klidjé impressed enough in his five Ligue 1 appearances to earn a move to Swiss Super League side FC Luzern. A first campaign in Switzerland ended prematurely in April for Klidjé due to injury, but only after he appeared 14 times for the club after arriving from France, helping them secure fourth spot in the Super League as well as qualification to the UEFA Conference League. The injury sustained in April 2023 ruled the forward out until early October – which also forced Klidjé to miss out on a trip to Easter Road in the UEFA Conference League. Despite this setback, he bounced back stronger; playing 24 league games, scoring four goals and providing three assists across the 2023/24 season – with his first goal in Switzerland a crucial late equaliser against Zurich. After settling into life in Luzern and having a full pre-season under his belt for the first time since arriving in Switzerland, Klidjé had an excellent 2024/25 campaign at the Swissporarena. He scored 10 times in 37 league appearances, as well as grabbing three assists, throughout the 2024/25 season – while also scoring twice in two Swiss Cup appearances. These impressive performances and crucial goal contributions helped guide Luzern back into the top half of the Swiss Super League after dropping into the bottom six the previous campaign. Klidjé is also an 18-time Togo international, making his debut in a World Cup qualifier versus Congo on 9 October 2021. A first international goal came three years later in October 2024 against Algeria during a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match. The forward had also previously represented Togo Under-21s and Under-23s – captaining the latter during a set of international friendlies, in which he scored in both matches against Tajikistan and Malawi.
