BREAKING NEWS Major update after man was struck by mystery driver in alleged hit-and-run in Sydney's south-west

A woman has been charged over an alleged hit and run that left a man fighting for life in Sydney 's south-west. The man, aged in his 30s, was crossing Hoxton Road in Cartwright when he was struck by a car at 2.30am on Saturday. He was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition. Police will allege the driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old woman, did not stop after the crash. However, she returned to the scene on foot and spoke to officers, who then arrested her. She was taken for mandatory testing and remains in custody. Anyone with any dash cam footage of the road at the time of the crash has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers. Disaster for Tigers as Api Koroisau ruled out and teammate banned for ref incident

The Wests Tigers have taken another massive hit amid their six-game losing streak, with Api Koroisau out with concussion and Heath Mason suspended for an incident with referee Gerard Sutton on Friday night. Benji Marshall's side's slumped to a sixth-straight loss with a 28-10 defeat to Manly. They were already missing Jarome Luai (infection) and Jahream Bula (hamstring), and will now lose Koroisau and Mason for next weekend's clash with the Roosters. Mason was put on report after colliding with Sutton while trying to prevent a Manly try in the first half. The fullback, who switched from the halves to cover Bula, was charged with a Grade 2 Contrary Conduct on Saturday by the match review committee. An early guilty plea will see him banned for one week, with extra punishment if the Tigers challenge and lose. Koroisau was concussed after collecting the knee of a Manly player in the second half, and was ruled a Category 1. That means he automatically enters the 11-day stand-down protocol and won't be available next week against the Roosters. In a stunning twist, it means the Tigers are now very unlikely to release young hooker Tallyn Da Silva before the June 30 deadline. The Tigers had granted him permission to negotiate with rivals for an immediate exit, but will now need him to start at No.9 with Koroisau out. The 20-year-old is contracted to the Tigers until the end of next year, but the club have opted to let the Campbelltown junior walk and prioritise keeping Koroisau. NRL rules state all mid-season signings must be completed by June 30, meaning Da Silva could not move on after filling in at No.9 for the Tigers next week. Asked if that would impact the Da Silva situation on Friday night, Marshall suggested it could. "It's something we will have to talk about over the weekend," the Wests Tigers coach said. "Honestly I don't know (if he will be at the Tigers next week). that is up to him and his management. We will leave that up to them where that lands." Meanwhile, Marshall said he was confident Luai would recover from an infected boil on his chest in time to play in State of Origin 3 for NSW. But it means he too won't be available to take on the Roosters. "We'll know a bit more in the next 24 hours. I think he'll be out of hospital today or tomorrow," Marshall said. "I am pretty sure he will be okay for NSW if they pick him. "He got an infection yesterday and didn't come to training. He said he was going to be alright to play. And then he went to hospital and had fevers and the infection got a lot worse. If it was another 24 or 48 hours Jarome would have been right to play. But he wasn't good for today." "If I am looking at it performance wise, yeah, sure we've improved. But the results are damning a bit," he said. "We've improved. But while a lot of people probably expected us to still be at the bottom of the table, we expected a lot more from ourselves. A couple of results here or there that maybe could have gone our way, we're still learning how to win those." with AAP

Chilling CCTV reveals moment slain gangster's wife desperately presses elevator buttons after her husband was peppered with eight bullets in an underground carpark

Video shows the terrifying moment the wife of a notorious bikie fled the scene of her husband's shooting and cowered in an elevator while trying to get help. Lone Wolf bikie Yusuf Nazlioglu, 40, was fatally shot multiple times in the basement car park of his apartment building in Sydney 's inner west in June 2022. The ex-gangster, who had been acquitted of shooting dead former Comanchero boss Mick Hawi, died the following day in hospital on June 28. New CCTV footage played in the NSW Supreme Court showed the moment Nazlioglu and his glamorous wife, Jade Jeske, pulled into the car park in a black Mercedes. Nazlioglu's killers were lying in wait in a silver Volkswagen Golf which had arrived only minutes before the couple were seen entering the carpark. A hooded gunman ran up to the Mercedes and opened fire, before running back to the Volkswagen, which then sped out of the car park. Ms Jeske could be seen rushing into an elevator and frantically pushing buttons as she tried to reach the ground floor, five levels up, and contact police. She then collapsed on her haunches in a state of shock as the lift began to move. Mohammed Baltagi, 26, Mohammed Hosni Khaled, 27, and Abdulrahman Mohamed Atteya, 31, were each charged with murder through a joint criminal agreement. On Monday, Atteya was found guilty of murder after lengthy deliberations by a jury. His family, who filled the NSW Supreme Court's public gallery, let out gasps, cries and prayers as the verdict was handed down. Earlier this month, Khaled was found guilty over the shooting while Baltagi was acquitted and walked free. Atteya and Khaled will remain behind bars until their sentencing dates. During the trial, Ms Jeske, formerly Jade Heffer, described the moment she ducked under the dashboard of the car as her husband was shot. She told the court she saw someone covering his head running with a pistol towards her husband as he stood next to their car. As Ms Jeske hid under the dash, she said she heard eight successive gunshots and then a further two, the jury heard. Ms Jeske, formerly Jade Heffer is pictured outside Downing Centre Court in Sydney in April She managed to briefly film the Volkswagen with her phone before running to the elevator. The jury heard Nazlioglu's killing may have been motivated by the theft of two rented luxury vehicles from a business in Lansdale, in western Sydney. Crown prosecutor Eric Balodis said Nazlioglu had hired two Mercedes vehicles, one black and one white, from the business in May 2022. Nazlioglu had himself faced a lengthy murder trial in 2020 after Comanchero boss Mick Hawi was gunned down at Fitness First in Rockdale in 2018. He was accused of being the balaclava-clad gunman but he and Jamal Eljaidi - said to be his getaway driver - were both acquitted by a jury. The Crown alleged Nazlioglu was motivated to kill Hawi after the former close friends fell out when the relationship soured during a fishing trip to the Central Coast in 2016. Atteya, Baltagi and Khaled had all pleaded not guilty to their charges and denied any involvement in the shooting.

Lorde reborn

Lorde's fourth studio album Virgin is a rebirth for a generational artist still in her 20s. Ella Yelich-O'Connor became a household name as a teenager after her debut album Pure Heroine delivered a new minimalist art-pop sound with hip hop production and a persona of magnetic self-assurance. The albums that followed represented two very different coming of age moments – 2017's Melodrama and 2021's Solar Power – for a young artist confronted with fame. Now, after over a decade in the public eye, Virgin walks the tightrope between experimentation and hitmaking pop, metaphorical obscurity and confessional sincerity. Ella joins Andy via zoom. Composer Christine Pan's new song cycle The Parts We Give has already had multiple lives. It's being performed live this weekend with two singers (Megan Kim and Wesley Yu) who perform the roles of Jiejie and Didi ('sister' and 'brother'). But it's also a DIY video game. Producer Ce talks to Christine about how operatic vocals, glitchy hyperpop, and 8-bit gameplay can tell the story of love in a Chinese-Australian home.
