2,000 tahfiz students participated in Palestine programme

TEMERLOH: A total of 2,000 students from 179 tahfiz institutions across Pahang participated in the Pahang Huffaz Gathering 3.0 Palestine Solidarity Programme, held in conjunction with the presentation of the Pahang Prosperous Initiative (IMP) 2025 to the Religious Cluster. Pahang State Islamic Religious Affairs, Rural Development and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad said through the programme, the state government channelled RM2,000 in aid to each of the 179 institutions, in addition to RM100 for each participating student. 'For students who could not attend today, God willing, the state government will follow up either by organising a special event or inviting them to the department,' he told Bernama at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Mustain Billah Mosque here today. Syed Ibrahim said the programme not only served as a platform for channelling aid to tahfiz students but also showcased the spirit of solidarity of the state's people with the Palestinian cause. 'We are grateful that all tahfiz institutions in Pahang provided excellent cooperation. This programme also became a medium for us to convey our unwavering support for them (the Palestinians) through prayers and supplications throughout the event,' he said.

Pahang to halt vape sales by early next year

A number of states have enacted or are exploring restrictions on e-cigarettes. (Bernama pic) KUANTAN : Local authorities in Pahang have been urged to ensure the sale of electronic cigarettes, or vapes, is halted by early next year. Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad, who heads Pahang's Islamic religious affairs, rural development and Orang Asli affairs committee, said the move followed the state government's decision to declare the use of electronic cigarettes as haram. 'On May 14, the state executive council endorsed the fatwa issued by the Pahang mufti, which had earlier been forwarded to the state legal adviser on March 19. 'The state government has also begun enforcing the fatwa with immediate effect,' he said in a Facebook post. The Pahang shariah legal consultative committee has ruled that the use of electronic cigarettes is forbidden as it poses health risks and leads to wastage. Pahang ruler Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had previously called for a total ban on the use of electronic cigarettes in the state. Terengganu, Perlis and Kedah have recently banned the sale of vape products and e-cigarettes, joining Johor and Kelantan, which have imposed such a ban for years now. Negeri Sembilan and Selangor are also considering a ban.

Pahang imposes immediate vape ban

KUANTAN: Pahang has become the latest Malaysian state to ban vaping and the use of electronic cigarettes. State Islamic Religious Affairs, Rural Development, and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad said the Pahang Mufti's Department had issued a fatwa prohibiting the use of vape. He said the fatwa was formally conveyed to the Pahang State Legal Adviser's Office on March 3 via a document issued by the Menteri Besar's Office. "The matter was presented at the Pahang State Executive Council meeting on May 14 and received the consent of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. "His Majesty had previously voiced concern over this issue (vape usage)," he said after chairing the State Islamic Religious Affairs sub-committee meeting at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Administrative Centre earlier today.
