Teachers to protest over unpaid salaries
Patna: Over 20,000 serving and retired Sanskrit and madrassa teachers across the state are set to stage a large protest outside the state legislature on July 23 to highlight the long-standing non-payment of their salaries and pensions.
The protest will be organised by the Bihar Sanskrit Teachers' Association and the Bihar Madrasa Teachers' Association. General secretaries Shobha Kant Jha and Syed Mohibbul Haq, respectively, said on Monday that teachers had been pushed to the brink of starvation due to the education department's alleged indifference.
They added that despite Patna high court orders dating back to Aug 13, 2019 and subsequent rulings, the department has failed to release the necessary funds.
"The department intentionally releases funds just one or two days before the end of the financial year, causing the sanctioned amount to lapse," they said.
The teachers have demanded immediate disbursement of arrears for both salaries and pensions, following proper pay fixation under the revised pay scales.
They warned that continued inaction could lead to intensified agitation in the coming weeks.
