Collaborative work between Seychelles and the European Union (EU) continues to bear fruit

The Head of the European Union Delegation for the Seychelles, H.E. Ambassador Oskar Benedikt paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Minister Sylvestre Radegonde, on Friday 27th June 2025, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. During their meeting, they discussed the cooperation between the European Union and Seychelles, particularly the status of the Port Victoria Rehabilitation and Extension Project and the implementation of the 'European Solidarity Action Plan with Seychelles', a Technical Cooperation Facility between the EU and Seychelles signed in 2024. They also touched on the progress of the ongoing negotiation to deepen and broaden the interim Economic Partnership Agreement between the EU and the Eastern and Southern Africa configuration (the latter comprises of Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Zimbabwe). They further discussed the EU's list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes and the efforts being done by the Government to ensure that Seychelles be removed from the list. The upcoming presidential and legislative elections was also discussed by Minister Radegonde and Ambassador Benedikt. Captain Vikas Guleria, Commanding Officer of INS TEG paid a courtesy call on Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy on Thursday, 26 June 2025. During the meeting, discussions centered on the enduring tradition of the Indian Armed Forces' involvement in Seychelles' National Day celebrations as well as this year's National Day Parade. Captain Vikas Guleria, who participated in the national day festivities in Seychelles in 2017, is keen to enhance cultural and people to people relationships to foster regional partnerships during his visit. They also highlighted ongoing capacity-building efforts through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme for Seychelles Defence Forces personnel and the joint surveillance of Seychelles' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) being conducted in partnership with the Seychelles Coast Guard during INS TEG's visit. Recognizing India as a key maritime security partner, Minister Radegonde underlined the importance of continued naval cooperation in addressing regional threats such as piracy off the Somali coast and other illicit maritime activities such, as Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated fishing, in the Western Indian Ocean. Minister Radegonde expressed appreciation for India's enduring support and reaffirmed Seychelles' commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. He welcomed the continued presence of Indian naval vessels in Seychelles as a testament to the deepening military cooperation between the two nations. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative pays farewell call on Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative, Mrs. Aissatou Diallo called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde as part of her farewell tour this Monday 23rd June 2025 at Maison Quéau de Quinssy. Among the issues discussed was the forecasted growth in the Tourism sector in the coming months. Minister Radegonde explained that one main challenge encountered was air connectivity which was often a deterrent to potential visitors. During their meeting, Mrs. Diallo described Seychelles as a success story in the IMF, saying that the country has consistently performed at a high level throughout their programmes and that it was considered to be a role model. She described her 3-year tenure as one which was productive and rewarding. Minister Radegonde personally thanked Mrs. Diallo for the work done during her tenure as the first IMF Resident Representative and wished her much success in her upcoming posting. Seychelles and Germany remain committed to strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations

H.E Mr. Sebastian Groth, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Seychelles, called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy on Tuesday 27th May 2025. Ambassador Groth gave Minister Radegonde an overview of the political landscape in Germany now that the country is under new leadership. Minister Radegonde congratulated the new Government for their victory and looked forward to working with the new administration to propel bilateral relations. Minister Radegonde took the opportunity to request Germany's assistance in advocating for Seychelles to be removed from the European Union's list of Non-Cooperation Jurisdictions on Tax Matters (Seychelles is currently on the EU grey list). He also enlisted Germany's support to push for the implementation of the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI), which was adopted during the United Nations General Assembly in August 2024. The two diplomats discussed training opportunities to build capacity in the fields of energy and climate change, tourism related issues including the flights to be undertaken by Discover Airlines, as well as international issues which have a direct or indirect impact on Seychelles and Germany. Seychelles: All-female Indian Defence Forces crew pays courtesy visit to Minister Sylvestre Radegonde

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde welcomed a delegation of 9 women from the Indian Defence Forces at Maison Queau de Quinssy on Tuesday 6th May 2025. The all-female crew left Mumbai on April 7th to sail to Seychelles onboard the IASV TRIVENI. The crew of 11 is composed of 6 officers from the Indian Army, 4 officers from the Indian Air Force and 1 officer from the Indian Navy. During the meeting, the Commanding Officer of the IASV Triveni, Captain Dauli Butola gave Minister Radegonde an aperçu of the various weather conditions they faced during their trip to Mahe as well as how this sailing journey has been a learning experience for them. She noted that aside from improving their navigational skills, they've also been able to learn more about seamanship, meteorology and weather monitoring. The crew reached two milestones in their sailing journey, which was crossing the Equator for the first time and this being the first time they've accosted on a foreign coast. Minister Radegonde expressed his deep appreciation for the visit of the female-led vessel and wished the crew a pleasant stay, as well as a safe return home. Captain Butola was accompanied to the meeting by the Indian High Commissioner to the Seychelles, Mr Kartik Pande and Second Secretary at the Indian High Commission, Mr Vikram Grewal.
