The Orange will be okay at tackle, but the 6-3, 313-pound Watson showed a world of upside as a freshman. But instead of being a pillar of the Orange defensive interior, he's off to Texas. Chargers Rookie TE Draws Comparison to Former Pro Bowl Star

Chargers Rookie TE Draws Comparison to Former Pro Bowl Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Things did not get off to such a fast start, but the Los Angeles Chargers have put forth a concerted effort to add talented pass catchers to the roster. Advertisement Their wide receiver group was very underwhelming last year which played a large role in the team's loss to the Houston Texans in the playoffs. The Chargers made a couple of signings in receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams that were more emotionally charged than truly impactful. Luckily for fans, the team placed a strong emphasis on pass catchers in the draft, selecting multiple receivers and one tight end. Surprisingly, it is the fifth-round tight end Oronde Gadsden who's been making headlines during minicamp. (Rich Barnes-Imagn Images) Gadsden had an injury riddled collegiate career with the Syracuse Orange, but when he was healthy his talent jumped off the screen. Advertisement He eclipsed the 900-yard mark in each of his two healthy seasons in college and if he hadn't missed nearly his entire Junior season, he may have been drafted much earlier. Nevertheless, he is in the NFL now and he is thriving. Chargers tight end coach Andy Bischoff, one of the most respected in the game, gave Gadsden the honor of a lifetime by comparing him to former Pro-Bowl tight end Darren Waller. The comparison makes perfect sense because at first glance, the rookie looks like a wideout which was Waller's defining characteristic. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 235 pounds, he is nearly as tall and lanky as the former Las Vegas Raiders star and his athleticism isn't too far off either. Advertisement Minicamps only last about a week in total, so what Los Angeles saw was a very small glimpse of Gadsden's potential. Now, they must hope that his glaring talent in practice will translate to Sundays.
