YVR celebrates additional Asia-Pacific connections with inaugural T'way flight to Seoul Français

New carrier strengthens YVR's position as a global gateway, key driver of trade and economic impact MUSQUEAM TERRITORY and RICHMOND, BC, July 12, 2025 /CNW/ - Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is proud to be the first airport in North America to welcome regular service from South Korean airline, T'way Air. Today's inaugural flight kicks off four-times weekly, year-round service between Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul and YVR, further positioning YVR as the preferred North American gateway to Asia-Pacific. The new T'way service provides the community with even more flexibility and convenience when travelling to South Korea and connections across Asia, but the benefits of this new service go beyond passengers alone. An additional air connection provides increased cargo capacity to further diversify trading markets and get British Columbian and Canadian products to consumers in Asia and around the world. 2024 was a record-breaking year for cargo out of YVR with more than 339,000 tonnes of goods shipped through the airport and South Korea is YVR's number two air export destination. "British Columbia has long had strong ties with South Korea and is home to a large Korean community that continues to make significant contributions to the cultural diversity and prosperity of our province," said B.C. Premier David Eby. "This affordable direct flight will allow people to stay connected with friends and family across the Pacific and also means that it will be faster and easier to do business with our fourth largest trading partner, strengthening the economic ties between us during a time of global uncertainty." "This new service to South Korea is about more than travel convenience—it represents a strategic investment in connectivity, trade, and Canada's place in the global economy," said Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO at YVR. "YVR is excited to further expand our ability to connect Canada with the world, to support industry and families, attract investment, and to further build resilience in supply chains." Each new international route from YVR results in direct economic benefit, with the flight to Seoul estimated to generate $39.8 million in economic output, $20.8 million in GDP, and 237 full time jobs in the province. "The launch of our Vancouver–Incheon route represents more than just a new destination—it's a meaningful bridge connecting people, cultures, and economic opportunity," said Mr. Sang Yoon Lee, CEO of T'way Air. "As the first Korean low-cost carrier to serve Canada, we're excited to welcome onboard travellers to Korea while continuing to deliver reliable service." Prior to the flight departing for its inaugural 11-hour journey, Elders from Musqueam, joined by Musqueam Councillor Morgan Guerin, helped send passengers on their journey in a good way with traditional songs and hands raised. Since 2017, this relationship has been guided by the Musqueam-YVR Sustainability & Friendship Agreement, a 30-year commitment built on respect, reconciliation, and shared prosperity. Flights with T'way from Vancouver to Seoul are scheduled to depart YVR at 5:25 p.m. local time arriving at ICN the next day at 9:35 p.m. local time. T'way is operating this route using an Airbus 330-300 aircraft, offering 347 seats, including lie-flat options in its Business Saver class, moving approximately 2,700 passengers weekly. Established in 2010, T'way Air is a low-cost carrier serving more than 40 destinations domestically in South Korea and around the globe including Europe, Asia, Australia, and now North America with the introduction of service to YVR. This just in: Singapore's public holidays for 2026 are announced, with total of 6 long weekends

There's still half the year left to go – but we're only left with three public holidays for the rest of 2025. Sounds like a long road ahead, but here's some news to cheer you up a lil': Singapore's public holiday dates for 2026 have just been officially announced by the Ministry of Manpower, and turns out, we're getting a total of six long weekends out of the 11 gazetted public holidays. That's not a bad deal at all, even though we'll be getting one less public holiday than we did this year – because of Polling Day 2025 giving us an additional 'free' rest day. Here's the full list of public holidays in Singapore for 2026, with long weekends marked by an asterisk: As per MOM's Employment Act, whenever a public holiday falls on a Sunday, your next working day will be a public holiday in lieu. In other words, if you're on a standard five-day working schedule from Monday to Friday, then your off days for the three consecutive public holidays that fall on Sundays will be on the following Mondays instead: June 1 for Vesak Day, August 10 for National Day, and November 9 for Deepavali. Moreover, Hari Raya Puasa falls on a Saturday this year. If that's a non-working day for you, then you should be getting time off in lieu as well – or salary in lieu, if you're asked to work. Some companies may standardise this off in lieu date for the following Monday (March 23), while others may credit it to your overall leave balance for you to use whenever you like, within a certain period of time. If the latter, we suggest taking this extra day off on a Friday or Monday so as to create another long weekend for yourself. If you're made to work on a public holiday that falls on a rest day or non-working day, bear in mind that you're legally entitled to one extra day's salary at your gross rate of pay or even overtime pay, depending on your work scenario. Singapore's MOM website has a clear table of entitlements as well as a handy calculator so you can easily find out what sort of compensation you should be given – take note of this and don't let your company shortchange you! Now that these public holiday dates for 2026 are official, it's never too early to start planning your long weekend getaways out of Singapore. Need some ideas? Korean budget airline T'way Air launches new direct Singapore-Jeju flights with round trips under $350

Jeju's gorgeous hiking trails, seaside cafés and flower fields are now closer than ever – all thanks to a brand new direct flight route by Korean low-cost airline T'way Air operating between Singapore's Changi Airport and Jeju International Airport. Before this, T'way Air's only direct flights from Singapore to Korea landed at Incheon International Airport in Seoul – the popular capital city that's since become rather overcrowded and tourist-laden. It also offers flights from Singapore to a whopping seven destinations in Japan including Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa and Sapporo, all of which require a stopover in Seoul. T'way Air's non-stop Singapore-Jeju flights aren't the first of their kind. Before this, there was already such a route via Singapore's Airlines' low-cost sister airline, Scoot – aka the Value Airline of the Year as awarded by Air Transport World. In any case, that was the sole direct option available, and taking any other airline would require a stopover with a domestic flight – so we're excited for this alternative that'll help shake things up in the aviation scene. This news comes around the same time as Jetstar Asia's sudden closure due to tough competition – a move that many are still in shock over. What's especially surprising about this is that Jetstar just announced a couple of exciting new flight routes, including direct flights between Singapore and Broome, Australia, as well as Singapore and Labuan Bajo, an underrated island paradise in Indonesia that's a great alternative to the done-and-dusted Bali. Without Jetstar in the picture, Singaporeans will once again have to look to more time consuming, non-direct options in order to get themselves to these holiday destinations. But on to less depressing news: We did a little research and found that Singapore-Jeju round trips on T'way Air can cost less than $350 in total, inclusive of taxes and checked baggage fees if you manage to snag one of the limited 'event fare' rates. As shown below, we managed to score a two-way journey for just $343. 'Event fare' rates on T'way Air include allowance for 15kg of checked baggage and 10kg of carry-on baggage. On the other hand, Scoot's lowest rates typically do not include checked baggage allowance and accounts for 10kg of cabin luggage, so you'll have to make a top-up in order to accommodate all the shopping you might plan to do while in Korea. Even if you opt for T'way's 'smart fare' rates, which come with free 23kg checked baggage allowance, you're likely to score round trip tickets to Jeju in the $500 range, depending on the dates you've picked. Of course, peak periods such as the end-of-year school holiday season or the Christmas and New Year stretch would see higher prices. The 'normal fare' rates are more or less on par with that of full-services airlines, so that might not be an attractive option for everyone. However, the question would be whether your priority is extra comfort with free meals and an in-flight entertainment system – which T'way doesn't offer – or to save time by getting straight to Jeju in a mere six hours, without having to hop off the airplane and on again in between. The flight schedule for T'way Air's Singapore-Jeju flights is as follows: The Boeing 737-8 aircraft is used on this route, with a seat configuration of two rows of three.
