ENG-W vs IND-W: England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt to miss remaining T20 series with injury; Beaumont named skipper

England will be without its captain Nat Sciver-Brunt for the remainder of the T20 Series against India, having suffered a groin injury, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Saturday. 'Scans have confirmed that Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss the rest of the Vitality IT20 series against India due to the injury to her left groin she sustained in Bristol,' the ECB said in a statement. 'Tammy Beaumont will continue to captain in her absence, with Maia Bouchier replacing Sciver-Brunt in the squad. Sciver-Brunt is expected to be available for selection for the start of the ODI series.' Tammy, having played 247 international matches, will lead the side for the first time, looking to turn the tide for the hosts, who trail 1-2 in the five-match series.

England forced into captaincy change after Nat Sciver-Brunt injury

Nat Sciver-Brunt is an injury doubt for the remainder of England 's white-ball series against India with a groin injury. Sciver-Brunt was unable to field for large parts of the second T20 international at Bristol after suffering the problem, and will definitely miss the third match at The Oval on Friday. Experienced batter Tammy Beaumont will stand in as skipper for the game with Sciver-Brunt facing further scans to assess the severity of the problem and determine if she will miss any further games. Maia Bouchier, in good form domestically for Hampshire, has been called up as batting cover. England have to win the three remaining games to take the T20I series, with three one-day internationals following swiftly afterwards. 'England Women's captain Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss the third Vitality IT20 against India Women at the Kia Oval with a left groin injury,' a statement confirmed. 'Results of the scan will determine whether Sciver-Brunt is required to miss any more games in the series, with the fourth Vitality IT20 due to take place on Wednesday 9 July at Emirates Old Trafford.' Any potential absence for Sciver-Brunt would be a major headache for Charlotte Edwards, who has endured a difficult week after a clean sweep against the West Indies in her first series as head coach. The all-rounder, who has been unable to bowl this summer, was installed as the replacement for Heather Knight after a disastrous Ashes whitewash and is primed to lead England to the World Cup in India this autumn. England struggled to execute their plans with the ball and in the field as India took a 2-0 advantage with victory at Bristol on Tuesday. A hamstring injury has already left Knight facing a race against time to be fit for the World Cup. Her injury opened the door for Beaumont, an opener in 50-over and Test cricket, to return to the T20I side in a new middle-order role, and the 34-year-old will now lead the side in London on Friday night. England have been using a flexible group of vice-captains to support Sciver-Brunt this summer rather than a single vice-captain as they bid to develop more leadership depth.

Tazmin Brits continues to shine for Proteas Women in West Indies

Tazmin Brits took South Africa home to their first win in the first match of their T20 Series against West Indies after the likes of captain Laura Wolvaardt were bowled out early. | BackpagePix Proteas Women opening batter Tazmin Brits put up another dominant display of batting on Friday night to help her team beat the West Indies by 50 runs in the first T20 of the series. Despite the slow wicket, Brits took command of the innings with her 98 not out, infused with 9x4 and 4x6. The South Africans lost two big, early wickets that put them on the back foot. Captain Laura Wolvaardt and veteran all rounder Marizanne Kapp fell easily before Nadine de Klerk could step in. Considered as one of the "dawgs" in the team for her hitting capabilities, De Klerk proved to be a good partner to tag along with Brits' momentum. Together, Brits and de Klerk put up a massive 71-run partnership. But West Indian bowler Jahazar Claxton was on fire and got her third wicket of the day after removing De Klerk for 21 runs. Chloe Tryon was unfortunately run out on 16 runs before she could do some real damage with the bat. Annerie Dercksen also fell cheaply, losing her wicket for five runs at the tail end. Brits continued to steamroll her way through the innings amid the fall of wickets, and went on to put up the highest Proteas women score against the West Indies. The 34-year-old led her team to a comfortable score of 183/6 in their 20 overs, asking a bit too much from the hosts. The Proteas bowling contingent did not let the West Indies top order get going, and were at 10/2 by the end of the third over. Kapp put that experience to good use, striking early blows for the Proteas and finished with figures of 2/27 runs of three overs. Ayabonga Khaka (1/19) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (1/18) kept the run rate slow with their spells and held the hosts to 49/5 inside eight overs, and putting immense pressure on their tail end. Janillea Glasgow was the only West Indian to respond aggressively toward the Proteas bowlers with her impressive half century knock of 53 not out. But Glasgow found no support from the other end to help stabilize their innings. By the end of 20 overs, the hosts could only manage to put up 133 runs on the board, giving the Proteas the comfortable 50-run victory in the first match of the series.
