Sydney recently ranked as the best winter sun destination in the world – now it's been labelled a "coolcation" capital

When we hear the term 'holiday destinations', people often conjure up fantasies of warmer climates, a cocktail in hand and waves lapping at the sparkling shore (extra points for some Baja Fish Tacos delivered straight to the sun lounger, but we're not picky). But for those of us who lean into the Hygge lifestyle (a Scandinavian word to describe a warm and cosy vibe), the perfect getaway takes place in the winter months. Thanks to a new campaign from Destination NSW, Sydney – the city known for its outdoor lifestyle and summer experiences – has been pitched as a top holiday spot for those looking to get into the warm and woollies. If our cosy pubs with fireplaces are anything to go by, we'd say the theory checks out. The ' Feel the Sydney side of winter ' campaign has launched to showcase the delights on offer in Sydney through the colder months, and you might be pleasantly surprised to learn how much there is to see and do when the temps drop. Sure, the harbour comes alive during summer (so much so that it ranked as the best winter sun destination in the world for residents of the Northern Hemisphere). But have you ever popped on a pair of ugg boots and sipped a mug of mulled wine while watching the whales cruise past Clovelly? A report from Tourism Research Australia revealed that in 2024, 8.7 million domestic and international travellers visited Sydney between June and September. Which means a lot of people like the cut of our winter jib, and we can't blame 'em. If you're not afraid to pop on a puffer (and actually delight in doing so) you can grab a ticket to one of the theatre spectaculars lighting up stages across the city. Prefer to take culture at your own pace? Marvel at the arts by heading along to an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art or the Art Gallery of NSW. More into sports than art? Catch the State of Origin game three decider at Accor Stadium or head down to cheer on the runners at the TCS Sydney Marathon. If you prefer to explore a city without a real plan in hand, our (relatively) mild winters mean that visitors won't have to battle through snowstorms to head off on an adventure; a good attitude (and perhaps a few restaurant recs) is all you need to head out onto Sydney's streets. Keen for a luxe city staycation? .

TCS ranked 45th most valuable brand globally, valued at USD $57.3bn

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been ranked 45th among the world's top 100 most valuable brands in the Kantar BrandZ Most Valuable Global Brands 2025 Report, with a calculated brand value of USD $57.3 billion and a reported 28% year-on-year growth. The Kantar BrandZ global ranking, now in its 20th year, highlights TCS's increased brand equity, favourability and global awareness, with the company now positioned amongst the most prominent organisations across all sectors. According to the report, TCS's latest brand value growth marks a pronounced increase in its global recognition. An independent brand audit conducted by Momentum-ITSMA found that the TCS brand achieved a 95% aided awareness rating among business executives across 26 countries, a significant rise from the 29% result polled in 2010. The report attributes this surge to ongoing brand building efforts, including wide-reaching sports partnerships, customer-focused innovation, and sustained marketing. Martin Guerrieria, Head of Kantar BrandZ, commented, "By drawing on the depth of BrandZ's database over the last quarter of a century, our insights show that with the right level of investment and strategic focus, brands have huge potential to drive growth for their owners." "TCS' performance this year demonstrates its ability to innovate at scale with AI capabilities now running through its portfolios. TCS' strategic sponsorship programmes continue to build a strong global presence and community around its brand." The company's growth has been partly attributed to its sponsorship of 14 global running events, which includes five of the seven Abbott World Marathon Majors, among them the TCS Sydney Marathon, TCS New York City Marathon and TCS London Marathon. These events attracted over 600,000 runners in 2024, generated USD $2.25 billion for local economies, and raised USD $279 million for charitable causes. According to TCS, the brand experienced a 30-point gain in brand familiarity and a 40-point lift in brand consideration, the highest among all key sponsors in the sector. Abhinav Kumar, Chief Marketing Officer at TCS, reflected on the recognition, stating, "For 20 years Kantar BrandZ has recognised the world's most valuable brands. We congratulate them on this special anniversary edition of their brand excellence platform." "Alongside the brand leadership we have in our industry, we are very pleased to see this recognition of the TCS brand amongst the world's most iconic brands across industries. This growth in brand value, awareness and equity has been built on a range of high-impact long term marketing and communications programmes. Building a brand is indeed a marathon, yet I would like to thank all my colleagues in TCS for doing this long run, at the scorching pace of a sprint. Kudos to all of them." TCS's brand growth strategy draws upon a commitment to 'humanising technology' and forming strong relationships with communities, clients, and partners worldwide. The company has advanced initiatives such as developing the first-ever digital twin heart of a professional runner and deploying AI systems to navigate complex business scenarios. Its partnership with Jaguar, notably through the Jaguar TCS Racing Team in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is positioned to enhance its profile at the intersection of advanced engineering and sustainability. The company's brand strength has also been demonstrated through client satisfaction and the employer brand. In 2025, TCS was ranked as the top IT service provider in Europe for customer satisfaction by Whitelane Research, and designated a Global Top Employer across more than 30 countries and regions, including North America, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Latin America by the Top Employers Institute. This recognition extends a period of success for TCS, having retained the top spot in the Kantar BrandZ Most Valuable Indian Brands 2024 rankings for the third year in a row. With Indian heritage and a global approach, TCS remains active in prominent industry forums, engaging in discussions on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and sustainability, while growing its social and digital media presence. The Kantar BrandZ Most Valuable Global Brands report is published annually and evaluates the strength and impact of brands using a combination of financial data and consumer insights. The ranking is regarded as an important benchmark, reflecting major shifts in consumer preferences and market dynamics.

Kenya great Eliud Kipchoge to run Sydney Marathon in race's ‘major' debut

Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, perhaps the greatest runner in history, has declared he will run the Sydney Marathon in August in a huge boon to the event's standing. The 40-year-old maestro, back-to-back Olympic marathon champion in 2016 and 2020 and the only runner ever to record an unofficial sub two-hour time in the event, says he's excited to be competing in the first year that the Sydney race has been designated a World Marathon Major. It will be Kipchoge's first time running in Oceania, a coup that left race organisers describing his presence in the 31 August showpiece as 'a dream come true'. Kipchoge is trying to prove he's still the event's undisputed master after a calamitous 2024 in which he could only finish 10th in Tokyo, his lowest placing at a marathon in his career, before dropping out at mile 19 when going for the Olympic hat-trick in Paris. 'I'm so excited,' Kipchoge said in a statement. 'This is not only my first time running the TCS Sydney Marathon, but also my first time running in Oceania. Running in Australia is a great opportunity for me.' Kipchoge's record of 16 wins in 21 official marathons included 10 consecutive victories between 2014 and 2019, and he'll first try to get back to winning ways after his Paris disappointment in the London Marathon on 27 April before his Sydney odyssey. Kipchoge is officially the second-fastest marathoner of all-time with his 2:01:09 in Berlin in 2022, but he also famously clocked 1:59:40 in Vienna in a special race set up for him to run fast where normal competition rules weren't in place. 'It's a dream come true,' said Sydney race director Wayne Larden, of Kipchoge's participation. 'His presence will elevate the event to new heights, bringing an unprecedented level of excitement, prestige and global attention.' He also had one other big ambition in Australia. 'I especially want to see kangaroos,' said Kipchoge. 'I don't want to come to Australia and miss seeing kangaroos.'

Former Olympic champion Kipchoge to run Sydney Marathon

March 13 (Reuters) - Twice Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge will run the Sydney Marathon in August, he said on Thursday. The 40-year-old Kenyan, who won back-to-back Olympic titles in 2016 and 2020, became in 2019 the first man to run a marathon in under two hours with a time of 1:59:40 in Vienna. That did not count as an official record, however, as standard competition rules were not in place. "I'm so excited," Kipchoge said in a statement. "This is not only my first time running the TCS Sydney Marathon, but also my first time running in Oceania. Running in Australia is a great opportunity for me." He has a record of 16 wins in 21 officially ratified marathons, including 10 consecutive victories from 2014-19. Kipchoge, who has run the second fastest official marathon ever with a time of 2:01:09, will take part in next month's London Marathon before heading to Sydney.
