TGCHE leads English curriculum revision on NEP 2020 lines
English learning can include elements of Telangana's history and culture. This change aims to connect with local experiences and support meaningful engagement, thus English with a local flavour. That is the idea of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) which is all ready to revise English language curriculum for all under-graduate courses in the State. The revision of English language syllabus for all under-graduate courses will follow the National Education Policy 2020 guidelines, and English skills will be linked with other subjects, as part of the policy's broad academic approach, it said on Monday. The revision will focus on less content, but with clear concepts and useful skills, or 'light but tight' idea, it added. The core of NEP 2020 - skill-based learning to build practical knowledge that supports employment - as the guide, the emphasis will be on English use in real life situations – such as at work, communications, and in digital and creative settings. According to the Council, the new syllabus will come with a standard digital resource – a 200-page reading material in PDF format, audio recordings of lessons and language elements, and a model question paper – for comprehensive listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary learning. Teachers too will undergo orientation sessions via T- Skills, Academic and Training (T-SAT) Network for guidance on teaching methods and student assessment. For the revision, the Council held consultations with experts from English departments from various universities in the State. The curriculum revision will take effect with the current academic year.

TGCHE unveils inclusive, skill-based English curriculum for varsities
Hyderabad: In a significant effort to transform English education in public universities, the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) convened a strategic meeting on Monday. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the revision of the undergraduate General English syllabus, which will take effect from the academic year 2025–26. The meeting brought together the Chairs of Boards of Studies and Heads of English Departments from universities across Telangana. Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, Chairman of TGCHE, emphasized the need for uniformity, fairness, and accessibility. He outlined a forward-looking approach to language learning that focuses on skills necessary for employment and practical communication, rather than rote knowledge. The revised curriculum aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and adopts a 'light but tight' framework. It streamlines content while ensuring conceptual clarity and usability. Central to this effort is the integration of Telangana's cultural and historical narratives into reading materials, creating a more localized and engaging learning experience. The chairman of TGCHE announced a new technological support system, providing over 200 pages of PDF reading materials that will be distributed to students at no cost. Teacher-recorded audio clips will support correct pronunciation and facilitate spoken English learning. Besides, Teacher orientation sessions will be delivered via the T-SAT Network, offering guidance on pedagogy, digital tools, and evaluation methods, he added. The curriculum is built around the four foundational English skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—further reinforced through grammar and vocabulary components. All elements will be unified in an integrated learning framework. Additionally, model question papers will be developed to aid in evaluation and preparation. What distinguishes the new syllabus is its methodical instructional design. Lessons will be prepared by experienced faculty using a clear, step-by-step format that resembles guided problem-solving strategies, making learning more structured and accessible. Speaking on the initiative, Prof. Reddy stated that the reforms aim to democratize education and reach students from every corner of Telangana. The curriculum is designed to close learning gaps by linking content to real-life scenarios, including various workplaces and digital communication environments. The purpose of the meeting was not only to outline the reform strategy but also to gather valuable input from subject experts. Through this extensive transformation, TGCHE demonstrates its commitment to modernizing education while maintaining cultural relevance and ensuring equitable access.

contemporary legal subjects in undergraduate law curriculum soon
Hyderabad: In response to the rapidly evolving global legal landscape and the increasing influence of technology in law and society, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has launched a significant curriculum revision aimed at modernizing undergraduate legal education in the state. A meeting held at the TGCHE premises on Saturday, chaired by Prof. Balakista Reddy, Chairman of TGCHE, brought together esteemed legal educators, including Prof. Subramanya, Dean of CMR University and former Legal Counsellor to the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Bangaru Laxmi Jasti, Assistant Professor at Mahindra University, to discuss enhancements to the legal education curriculum. Previously, TGCHE had established a subject expert committee composed of Prof. G.B. Reddy and Prof. Vijaya Laxmi from the Department of Law at Osmania University, along with Prof. A.V.N. Rao, former Dean of ICFAI Law School, to review and revise the undergraduate law syllabus. This committee conducted several meetings and consultations with stakeholders and submitted comprehensive recommendations for new, academically relevant courses. Building on the expert committee's feedback and extensive academic discussions, the Council has decided to incorporate 10 new subjects into the undergraduate law curriculum. This initiative aims to align legal education in Telangana with emerging global trends, national priorities, and the evolving regulatory framework set by the Bar Council of India (BCI). The new subjects to be added to the undergraduate law curriculum include: 1. Cyber Laws and Cybersecurity;2. Emerging Technologies and Law;3. Law on Transportation;4. Law on Security and Strategic Studies 5. Media and Technology Law;6. Juvenile Justice Act and POCSO;7. Consumer Protection Act;8. International Trade Law;9. Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law and 10. Competition Law. These additions target critical and rapidly growing areas in legal practice such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, insolvency, national security, and cross-border trade. Courts across India increasingly depend on legal professionals to provide expert opinions in these fields, underscoring the urgent need to equip law graduates with specialized and practical knowledge. During the meeting, Prof. Balakista Reddy emphasized, 'Legal education must remain responsive to the complexities of the modern world. The proposed curricular enhancements are not just timely; they are necessary to prepare a generation of legal professionals capable of operating effectively in both national and international legal arenas.' This decision reflects the BCI's broader mandate under the Legal Education Rules, 2008 (Schedule II), which calls for periodic curriculum updates to address contemporary issues and challenges. The inclusion of these subjects, though slightly increasing the overall credits, is academically justified and aligns with global best practices in legal education. This reform represents a significant step towards establishing a future-ready legal education system in Telangana—one that is interdisciplinary, forward-looking, and grounded in real-world legal developments.
