Topher Grace Reacts to The Waterfront Villain Role Being 'Written' for Him, Says 'Wife Would Understand' How He's a Sociopath

Topher Grace is embracing his dark side in a big way. In a recent TODAY interview, the That '70s Show star shared how Kevin Williamson, the creator of Netflix's new crime drama The Waterfront, wrote the villain role just for him. Grace joked about the moment, saying, 'My wife got it,' when asked how it felt to be asked to play a 'charming sociopath.' In The Waterfront Netflix drama, Grace plays Grady: a wealthy, tech-bro turned poppy-farm drug lord. Kevin Williamson actually wrote the character with Grace in mind. Grace revealed on TODAY: 'The creator Kevin Williamson, who I'm a huge fan, he wrote 'Scream' when I was in High School and 'Dawson's Creek'. He's amazing, and he called me said the most deductive thing you can say to an actor, I wrote this with you in mind. Then you have to do it.' Williamson echoed that sentiment in interviews, praising Grace's 'unexpectedness' and saying: 'Give a funny man a gun and see what he does with it." In Entertainment Weekly, he noted the unpredictable nature of Grace's performance: 'You just never know if he's going to hug you or shoot you.' From Eric Forman to Netflix villain Best known as Eric Forman on That '70s Show, Grace has taken on varied roles since. After sitcoms and romantic comedies, he played Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider‑Man 3 (2007), the serial killer Edwin in Predators (2010), and David Duke in BlacKkKlansman (2018). In The Waterfront, he fully embraced his darker side. Topher Grace shared why he's drawn to villains: 'Bad guys are better. When you are playing a good guy, the audience is kind of your partner in it. You're an avatar for them in that situation. But when you are playing a bad guy, there is no rules.' Grace also talked about the atmosphere on set, sharing that some characters in the series are self-aware of the show they're in. He shared that he personally enjoyed adding humor by constantly complimenting everyone on how good-looking they were, pointing out that it felt unusual to him because he had never done a television drama before. He joked that it was funny how so many problems could exist in one town where everyone looked so attractive.

Amber Glenn discusses mental health journey on TODAY

Two-time U.S. figure skating champion Amber Glenn reflected on her mental health journey, starting with briefly stepping away from the sport in late 2015, in a TODAY interview that aired Tuesday. 'I was in a very dark place,' Glenn said, referring to 2015 and noting she was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and an eating disorder. 'One of my friends contacted one of my parents, and I sought help. I'm so grateful for that.' Glenn turned 16 years old during that time. She reflected for months and did step back on the ice. 'I had no idea (if I would go back to figure skating),' Glenn told TODAY. 'I knew that there was no way I could go back to the way I was doing things. And eventually I got to a place where I was doing things in a healthy way, and I could speak about my struggles.' In March 2016, while still on a break from competition, Glenn attended the World Championships women's free skate in Boston. She watched as American Ashley Wagner performed brilliantly, moving up from fourth place after the short program to earn a silver medal. It was part inspiring and also part discouraging. Glenn didn't believe at the time that she could ever reach that level. 'Growing up, I saw the top skaters as untouchable and as these people who didn't have the same struggles that I was having at that age,' she said. 'Eventually, I got a peek behind the curtain, and they were struggling in silence. After seeing that, I realized that it was more important for me to be honest about my journey than to try and act like everything was perfect.' Eight years after that time away, Glenn won her first senior U.S. title in 2024, then repeated as champion this past January. She also won this past December's Grand Prix Final, the second-most prestigious annual international event after the World Championships. Glenn is bidding to make the three-woman team for the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, which will be decided by a committee after this upcoming January's U.S. Championships. At 26, she can become the oldest U.S. women's singles skater to compete in an Olympics in 98 years. 'Part of me is still in disbelief,' Glenn told TODAY. 'I need to trust that I put in the work to be here and that I do deserve it.' Nick Zaccardi,

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding in Venice is approaching: Everything to Know

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Emmy-winning journalist Lauren Sanchez, are getting set to tie the knot in one of the year's most anticipated weddings. '(I'm) very excited about it,' she told Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie while appearing on TODAY in November 2024. '(I'm) thinking about the dress, I have to say. I do have a Pinterest. I'm just like every other bride. So I do have a Pinterest board.' Sanchez, 55, is also a pilot and children's book author whom many fans may recognize for her work as a correspondent on 'Extra.' She said she is amazed at the trajectory of her own life. 'I never thought at 54 — I'm going to be 55 — that I'd be an author, that I'd be getting married,' she said on TODAY. 'I mean, life is just beginning. When I was 20, I thought, 'Oh my gosh, life is over at 50.' Let me tell you: It is not, ladies. It is not over. It is just beginning.' When is Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding? The couple's wedding celebration is expected to take place from June 24 to June 26 in Venice, Italy, a spokesperson for the mayor of Venice had told CNN. Where is it? The wedding will take place in Venice, Italy. The impending nuptials have sparked protests from people who are concerned that the couple are taking over the city and causing overcrowding, as tourists have descended upon Venice. Despite the outrage, the Municipality of Venice said in a statement in March that the city is ready to oversee the wedding. 'The many speculations and fake news circulating about Jeff Bezos' wedding are completely unfounded,' the municipality said. 'Only 200 guests will have been invited and therefore it will be easy for Venice to accommodate such an event, without any disruption whatsoever to the city, its residents and visitors.' Who is on the guest list? The guest list hasn't been released, but People reported Sanchez's bachelorette party in May featured the likes of Katy Perry — who flew aboard with Sanchez on Bezos' Blue Origin all-female trip to space in April — Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Eva Longoria. Vogue reports the party had other heavy hitters on hand, too, including Fox Sports' Charissa Thompson and Veronica Grazer, whose husband is Hollywood producer Brian Grazer. When did Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez get engaged? The couple were first romantically linked in 2019, according to People. Bezos and Sanchez announced their engagement in 2023. Earlier that year, Sanchez gushed about Bezos in an Instagram post for his birthday. 'Happy birthday to the man of my dreams, who lights up my world with his laughter and kind heart,' she wrote. 'You have shown me that no great love is not bravely fought for. Thank you for always being by my side and for being the most loving and supportive partner. I am so grateful for the memories we have made and the adventures yet to come. Here's to many more birthdays filled with love and laughter. 'Te amo con todo mi corazon,' she ended the post, which is Spanish for, 'I love you with all my heart.' Bezos was previously married to MacKenzie Scott from 1993 to 2019. The couple have four children together. Sanchez was previously married to Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell, with whom she has two kids. She also has a son with her former partner Tony Gonzalez, a retired NFL star.
