Tacoma man dead from injuries following shooting last month has been identified

A Tacoma man who was injured from a shooting last month and died over the weekend has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office. Sopheap Sin, 34, died from wounds to the torso and right forearm after he was shot Feb. 27 near the 200 block of South 46th Street. His manner of death was listed as a homicide, the office wrote in a news release. Officers were dispatched around 1 a.m. to the area for reports of gunfire. They found the victim injured from gunshot wounds, according to the Tacoma Police Department in a news release. Tacoma Fire personnel began life-saving measures and took him to a local hospital. He died from his injuries Sunday. No arrests have been made as of Thursday, according to a TPD spokesperson. Sin was described as a funny and kind-hearted person with a loving soul who never hesitated to help his family or friends in need, according to a GoFundMe. The fundraiser was set up to raise funds to support Sin's family and help with funeral arraignments that would 'give him the farewell he deserves.' 'Tragically, Pheap was a victim of a crime that resulted in severe injuries that would affect his future quality of life. Despite all efforts, our family had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go, trusting that he is now at peace and in a better place,' the fundraiser said.

A man was shot after approaching alleged vehicle prowlers. Police have third teen in custody

Tacoma Police arrested a third suspect Wednesday in a case officers are investigating as a homicide, after a man was fatally shot Jan. 9 on a residential street in Tacoma's North End. Officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of North 18th Street at about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 9 after a report of gunfire and a man lying in the street, whom they found suffering several gunshot wounds, The News Tribune reported. Police and Tacoma Fire personnel attempted life-saving measures but the man was declared dead at the scene. Crime scene technicians and detectives responded to the scene and opened an investigation. The victim was later identified as James Marsh, 53, of Tacoma, according to a release from the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office. Police booked the third suspect, an 18-year-old man, into the Pierce County Jail Wednesday, according to the department's post on X. He joins another 18-year-old man whom officers booked into the jail Jan. 14, and a 17-year-old boy whom officers booked into Remann Hall Jan. 10. All three are suspected of murder in the second degree, the post said. Elijah Alexander Andrews, whom officers arrested Jan. 14, was charged in Pierce County Superior Court Jan. 15 with two counts of second-degree murder, The News Tribune reported. A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf. The judge in the case ordered that the 17-year-old's name not be publicly released while the investigation is ongoing. The News Tribune is not naming the third suspect because he hasn't yet been charged with a crime. The News Tribune also reported based on court records that surveillance footage showed a person thought to be Marsh walking toward two people who were looking into and touching vehicles near his home, including his Land Rover Range Rover, on Jan. 9. It appeared that a third suspect was allegedly involved, prosecutors wrote in the probable cause affidavit. Detectives also learned that several vehicle prowls were reported in the area just before the homicide, according to court documents. The investigation is ongoing, according to the post. It requests anyone with information to contact Tacoma Police or Crime Stoppers of Tacoma-Pierce County.

Tacoma man found dead from fire at indoor shooting range IDed. Cause of fire undetermined

A Tacoma man who died after a fire broke out at an indoor shooting range last week has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office. Timothy Mar, 33, died from the fire at Bull's Eye Indoor Range in the 400 block of Puyallup Avenue. His cause and manner of death are pending, the office said in a news release. That is a temporary designation used when additional investigation, information and/or test results are required for certification. The official cause of the fire has been ruled as undetermined but is considered accidental, Tacoma Fire spokesperson Chelsea Shepherd told The News Tribune on Monday. Shepherd said investigators were not able to determine if the fire was ignited by a failed power cable or something else. Firefighters were dispatched that day at about 6:16 p.m. after reports that the building was on fire and people were inside, according to Tacoma Fire in an X post. After firefighters knocked the fire down, Mar was found dead inside. One other person was injured. The injured person was taken to a local hospital, the post said. 'The fire appears to have started in a classroom area where the business kept live ammo and electrical equipment. While the exact cause of the fire is unclear, the fire appears to be unintentional,' Tacoma Fire posted on X. Bull's Eye Indoor Range has been temporarily closed. According to its Facebook post on Monday, the shooting range will begin releasing firearms and running background checks again through appointments.
