Spring of Youth – K-drama Episode 8 Recap & Review

Episode 8 Episode 8 of Spring of Youth begins with Bom coming across Tae-yang in a mall, surrounded by his fans. When she gets knocked down, he helps her up and even gives her some medicine. Later, Bom and the others head out for another gig. This one is at Seoul National University, where Two Sa Gye is performing as a surprise guest. When they're gone, Seung-su breaks into the house and steals the money he had given Sa Gye. Sa Gye and the others find out when they are back but Sa Gye reveals that he had set up a secret camera to record the thief — it was a trap. He's shocked to learn that it's Seung-su and goes to confront him. He then reveals that he and his mother lied to Seung-su when Sa Gye lost his sight. Seung-su was the one practising with Sa Gye when he got injured and they didn't want him to feel guilty. Now, Sa Gye tells Seung-su the truth, which crushes him. After the confrontation, Sa Gye buys some flowers and visits the columbarium where Bom's mother's remains are. Unbeknownst to him, Bom follows and watches him in secret. Meanwhile, Ji-na tells Tae-yang that he will soon be selected as the brand ambassador for H, a renowned clothing brand. She reveals that Min-cheol pulled a few strings to make it happen. Seung-su, having had a change of heart, goes to the office and adds the photograph of Min-cheol and little Tae-yang standing by the SUV to one of the news articles about Tae-yang (he had earlier removed this to hide the SUV). He then heads back to see Sa Gye and tries to atone by telling him about the car. Paired with the flashes from his dreams, Sa Gye realises Min-cheol was involved in the accident. The next morning, Sa Gye confronts Min-cheol about this as he's leaving for work. His reaction confirms the truth. Tae-yang intervenes and tells Sa Gye to leave his father alone. Min-cheol makes Tae-yang go to work, where he has received an invitation to visit Hanju University as part of his press lineup. Tae-yang asks Ji-na to organize that visit before everything else. Back home, Ja-young has an argument with Jin-gu and refuses to serve him fish. Gyu-ri takes some upstairs for him in secret and the two share a moment. When Sa Gye returns to the house, Bom tells him she knows he's hiding something but he brushes it off. At the hospital, things get worse for Min-cheol as a reporter has been looking into the death of the old woman whose surgery Min-cheol postponed. He then gets a call from the police station. Turns out, Sa Gye has given a report about witnessing a car accident from six years ago involving Min-cheol's car. Now, the detective asks Min-cheol to come in for questioning. Meanwhile, Ji-na tries to ask Tae-yang to go out for dinner with her but he is more focused on his visit to Hanju University. At university, Bom learns that Tae-yang is visiting and even planning on donating new equipment to their band. At the police station, the detective questions Seo Min-cheol. His lawyer soon gets him out and Min-cheol immediately meets with Jo Sang-heon. Sang-heon is livid when he realises Min-cheol gave the photo of the car to the reporter. They play the blame game and Min-cheol brings up his investment in Jo's company, ordering him to take care of the situation. Back at university, Bom convinces the others to be part of Tae-yang's visit to the college. Sa Gye hates the idea but ultimately caves in. As Bom walks through the town, the Christmas lights remind her of a memory with her mother. She reaches home and finds a postcard for Sa Gye from his mother, in which she mentions his loss of sight. At the end of Spring of Youth Episode 8, Bom realises that he received her mother's eyes in a transplant. Inside, Sa Gye has done up the whole place in Christmas lights. She reveals that she knows the truth and is happy that it was him. The Episode Review Spring of Youth Episode 8 keeps things moving! Seung-su's character has definitely become more fascinating in the last two episodes as he walks a moral grey area. His final confrontation with Sa Gye reveals that despite his actions, he does care about him. These events also offer a nice lead-up to Sa Gye learning that Min-cheol was involved in Bom's mother's death. Sa Gye's decision to tell the police that he witnessed the whole thing feels a tad reckless. But like with the secret camera and the suitcase, I'm hoping he has a plan up his sleeve. His relationship with Bom also takes a big step. She finally realises the truth about the organ transplant and it's done quite well. The emotional beats hit the spot, particularly with all those pretty Christmas lights around them. It is a shame we don't see the band perform more, though. It would also be nice to know if they have other songs apart from 'See You Later'. Overall, this one is a well-written, engaging episode that gears things up for the K-drama's final stretch! Spring of Youth – K-drama Episode 7 Recap & Review

Episode 7 Episode 7 of Spring of Youth begins with Team Two Sa Gye recording the cover of the song on Bom's rooftop. After this, the announcement of Tae-yang's inclusion in The Crown is released. Bom and her friends are shocked to see it. But not for long because their video goes viral, getting far more views than Tae-yang's video. The video goes on to get 3 million views and Bom releases the video which shows their faces. Sang-heon and Min-cheol are flabbergasted. Tae-yang, upset, tells Sang-heon to make him famous enough to erase Sa Gye. Sa Gye gets their first gig at a small town festival but they end up paid in sweet potatoes and onions. Their second gig is at a ski resort. But once they get there, they find that Tae-yang is there for a fansign event. They were never signed on and someone tricked them. A scene with Tae-yang confirms that Sang-heon was behind it. We see that Sang-heon is doing a lot more. He has Seung-su hack into the Two Sa Gye website and delete all performance requests. Sa Gye even asks Seung-su if Sang-heon is behind it. Unfortunately, Sang-heon sees the text and makes Seung-su lie. Meanwhile, Sa Gye and the others make the most of the situation and play around in the snow. Bom talks about how her mother wanted to see the northern lights and Sa Gye promises to take her. Back at J&J, Min-cheol tells Sang-heon and Ji-na that he will be more involved in Tae-yang's career from now on. We then see Tae-yang arrive for band practice but the other band members are rude to him and leave practice early. Later, Tae-yang finds himself face to face with Sa Gye. Sa Gye tries to warn him about the agency but Tae-yang thinks he's just jealous. He doesn't even believe that J&J plagiarised Bom's song. That evening, Sa Gye sneaks some beef and veggies into the house. But Gyu-ri and the others find it in the fridge. In his room, Sa Gye calls Bom and tells her he'll make breakfast for her in the morning. She then opens the connecting doors between their room and once again asks Sa Gye if she can sign him as her first artist. As collateral, she gives him her necklace — the one with the music box. Sa Gye suggests she name the agency Bom Bom. Gyu-ri overhears this from outside the room and looks upset. She goes down, where Ja-young and Jin-gu are helping themself to Sa Gye's beef. In tears, she says she wants the meat all to herself. In the morning, Sa Gye ends up giving Bom coffee thanks to the missing meat. He then wraps her up in a scarf, the same way her mother used to. After she's gone, Sa Gye berates Ja-young, Gyu-ri and Jin-gu for eating all the beef. However, when Ja-young's past experience as a fan comes up, Sa Gye hires her as the band's website manager and tells her not to mooch off of Bom. Both of them and Jin-gu then head out to buy a camera and a van. Kang Seok-hee spies on them as they do this and takes the photos to Sang-heon. Sang-heon has been upset with him for keeping the SUV when he was ordered to get rid of it and the photographs are Seok-hee's way of apologising. Meanwhile, Min-cheol gives an interview for his work as a doctor. The reporter agrees to give Tae-yang a shout-out as well. However, Min-cheol then learns that the old woman he passed on for the politician's surgery has now died. Turns out, she was a rich and generous woman with many admirers — Min-cheol could now be in trouble. Elsewhere, Tae-yang continues to butt heads with his band members who refuse to accept him. During a rehearsal, he proves his talent and manages to get them in line. While scanning through online articles about Tae-yang, Seung-su finds the article about Min-cheol. In it, he sees a photograph of him and Tae-yang standing by an SUV, the same one that Sa Gye was inquiring about. He's then called to meet Sang-heon, who asks him where Sa Gye is getting the money to buy a new van and camera from. Seung-su admits he was the one who gave Sa Gye some money. Sang-heon orders him to get the money back and when Seung-su refuses, he offers him five percent of the company. Back home, when Sa Gye says he wants to take Bom on a ride in the car, Gyu-ri throws a childish fit until he takes her for a ride as well. When she realises he cares more about Bom, she says she won't be his fan anymore. During this, someone breaks into the house and steals Sa Gye's suitcase full of money. While at the department store, Bom comes across Tae-yang who is surrounded by reporters and fans. When a passing fan knocks Bom down, he stops and offers her a hand. The Episode Review Spring of Youth Episode 7 pits Two Sa Gye and Tae-yang against one another. Tae-yang officially wants to take Sa Gye down and Lee Seung-hyub is portraying his villain arc quite well. He's got the right snobby attitude, the walk, and the change in clothing reflect it as well. On the other hand, Gyu-ri is the most annoying she's been. Surely there's a way to portray her frustration without viewers needing to turn down the volume. Story-wise, tensions are much higher which makes the drama a lot more engaging! Sang-heon is getting desperate and combined with Min-cheol, they make a credible threat to Sa Gye. Sa Gye himself is all passion and determination and that serves well in the face of all these obstacles. Did Bom forgive and make up with him a little too quickly and easily? Absolutely. But, since Sa Gye's entire personality seems to be about loving Bom, having them back in each other's good books isn't something I'm complaining about. Spring of Youth – K-drama Episode 4 Recap & Review

Episode 4 Episode 4 of Spring of Youth begins with Tae-yang leaving home for the band performance at the school festival, despite his father's protests. Seo Min-cheol calls Cho Sang-heon, who assures him that the performance won't take place. At school, Sa Gye and the others are excited to perform. But then a rowdy crowd of people claiming to be Sa Gye's fans turn up at the event and end up wrecking the whole place. The performance is cancelled. Gyu-ri proves that those people were fake fans which makes Sa Gye suspect Sang-heon is involved. They suddenly realise Bom is missing and Sa Gye confronts Sang-heon about this but he says he doesn't know where she is. Ultimately, he finds Bom near the performance venue but she says she saw some men take Tae-yang away. Thanks to Sa Gye's hefty donation to the university's hospital, he learns that Seo Min-cheol has admitted Tae-yang as a patient. He's even placed guards outside Tae-yang's VIP room. Sa Gye and the others go to the hospital, where they see a new patient being turned away due to a lack of space. The group makes a big fuss, claiming that Min-cheol himself will sponsor the patient's care. While Min-cheol is dealing with all the public attention, they get Tae-yang out and send the new patient to the VIP room inside. Tae-yang appreciates this but tells them he's quitting the band because he doesn't want them to get hurt. However, the others convince him to stay on. They even conduct their debut by performing on the street. Cho Sang-heon's next move is to publish a post that says Sa Gye doesn't value his fans and insults them. As a result, fans turn up outside Ja-young's house to protest. They end up storming inside and making a mess and Sa Gye is forced to jump from the rooftop to the neighbouring building to escape. At J&J, Ji-na gets in trouble when someone realises The Crown's new song's chorus has been plagiarised from the chorus of an older song. Since the band's schedule is fixed, she has two weeks to find a whole new song. Sometime later, Ji-na realises that the song she stole from Bom has similar chords to The Crown's new song. She decides to use the melody from Bom's song on the new one. Bom and the others find their band room at school in a mess as well, in protest against Sa Gye. Sa Gye then arrives with more bad news — their band has been suspended. He says the other band, Hanju, has complained against them. Tae-yang leads them to Hanju's band room to confront them and it turns into an all-out brawl. The principal berates Two of Sa Gye's members for beating up the other band members and they are forced to post a public apology. Later, Tae-yang officially moves out of his house. Meanwhile, Kim Ja-young makes Sa Gye do chores around the house to make up for the damage his fans did. He sneaks out later and finds a postcard from his mother in the mailbox as he leaves. She seems to be having a good time traveling. Sa Gye then goes to the store where Bom works and says he wants to go on a date. But she is worried about others finding out. That's when two girls from Bom's old school in the US turn up at the store. They taunt her about her change in financial status and the death of her mother, but Sa Gye stands up for her. After they leave, Bom agrees to go on a date. They wait in line at a bagel shop but the bagels sell out before they can buy any. However, when they get on a bus, a young student gives Sa Gye her bagel because of how much his music meant to her. It makes Sa Gye a bit emotional. That night, Bom plays her melody for Sa Gye and says she wants him to sing this song. He describes the dream about the melody and says fate brought him to her. They drink beer under the moonlight and Sa Gye kisses her. Unfortunately, Tae-yang sees this and walks away. Bom then asks Sa Gye to come visit her mother with her the next day. She also tells him that her mother was brain-dead and Bom agreed to donate her organs. The news sparks a headache for Sa Gye and he starts matching his dreams to Bom's memories around the house. He later asks Ja-young if Bom was raised in this house and she says she was. Ja-young also tells him that Bom's mother died in a car accident during a typhoon and donated parts of her body, including her eyes. After learning that she died at the same hospital where he was admitted for his eye surgery, Sa Gye finally puts the dots together. He also recalls accusing Sang-heon about a hit-and-run during the party in Episode 1. At present, Sa Gye goes after Sang-heon. All this while, Bom is waiting for Sa Gye to show up so they can visit her mother. When a car crashes nearby, she recalls being on the phone with her mother when the crash happened. She gets worried about Sa Gye when she can't get in touch with him. She calls Tae-yang and then passes out at the end of Spring of Youth Episode 4. The Episode Review Spring of Youth Episode 4 turns the drama up. The episode is quite fast paced and pretty much rollercoasters through different events, from the school festival debacle to Tae-yang's hospital rescue to the malicious article about Sa Gye and his protesting fans to the brawl between both college bands. Rather than a streamlined flow, the story seems to be jumping from one event to the other and the editing definitely emphasises this. Sa Gye and Bom's romance turns up as one of these random events and just like Bom, I was surprised to learn that they are officially together now. We never see the aftermath of their kiss from the previous episode and this development feels sudden and unearned. It almost feels like we missed something in the middle. The show also continues to lean into its melodramatic nature, with decidedly evil villains and caricatures like the school principal. You can't expect a lot of things to make sense in a show where students can just barge into a hospital and do whatever they want. If there's a reason to stick around here, it's the heartwarming camaraderie between the band members. It's the one part of the series that actually taps into character and emotion rather than the plot. But with Tae-yang's desire to protect Bom, that might not last very long.
