The post then explained why the band made the sudden change. 'The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable. So… You can blame it on the tour is cancelled,' the announcement read. 'Don't know where, don't know when… We hope to see you all again. Wishing you all Peace, Love and Happiness, Please take care of each other. Steve, The Band and the Crew,' the post concluded. The same message was shared to the Steve Miller Band's website, with 2025 touring dates now removed. The band — known for hits like 'Rock 'N Me' and 'Take the Money and Run,' as well as '80s songs like 'Abracadabra' — had 31 dates scheduled for its American tour, which was slated to begin Aug. 15 in Bethel, N.Y. before wrapping in Anaheim, Calif. on Nov. 8, per Variety. Fans expressed their disappointment over the cancellation in the band's Facebook comments. 'All these things have always existed. To blame it on the weather sounds a little suspect,' one person wrote. 'Better stay in bed everyday, something bad might happen otherwise…too risky,' another said. The rock band formed in San Francisco in 1966, with their greatest hits from 1974-78 receiving the RIAA diamond award for more than 15 million copies sold, according to its website. The 81-year-old musician's Steve Miller Band said in a statement on Wednesday, July 16, that all of its upcoming tour dates have been canceled due to various extreme weather events. "The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable," the statement said. "So ... You can blame it on the weather. The tour is cancelled." USA TODAY has reached out to the Steve Miller Band for additional information. "Don't know where, don't know when ... We hope to see you all again," the message, which was signed by Miller, the band and its crew, also read. Steve Miller Band is hitting the road this summer: Where they'll play, how to get tickets In May, the Steve Miller Band announced their 31-date tour was set to begin on Aug. 15 in New York and wrap on Nov. 8 in California. Along the way, stops were planned in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, Arizona and more states. As of July 17, no tour dates were listed on the band's website. The Steve Miller Band was originally formed in 1966 and is known for hits like "Rock'n Me" and "Fly Like an Eagle," the latter of which was inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry. In 2024, the group joined Def Leppard and Journey on a summer stadium tour. Miller "and his four-piece band offered an invigorating 60 minutes of fingers dancing across the fretboard ('Fly Like an Eagle'), sizzling harmonica ('Living in the U.S.A.') and funky hi-hat work and handclaps ('Take the Money and Run')," USA TODAY music writer Melissa Ruggieri said in a review of a July show in Philadelphia. In the comments of the band's tour cancellation announcement on Instagram, fans expressed confusion over the decision. "This seems like an odd reason to cancel a tour," one user wrote, while another comment read, "Is this real? Must be a joke? If this is a serious statement, it's the craziest press release I've ever seen for a tour cancelation." The ever-durable Steve Miller will hit the road this summer for a 31-date tour. Kicking off Aug. 15 in Bethel, New York, and wrapping Nov. 8 in Anaheim, California, the tour will boast classic rock hits from the Steve Miller Band, whose "Greatest Hits 1974-78" is one of the 25 bestselling albums of all time. Last year, Miller, 81, and his taut band joined Def Leppard and Journey for a summer stadium run, packing the set with guitar-heavy favorites including "Rock'n Me," "The Joker," "Swingtown" and "Take the Money and Run." Tickets are on sale now via Earlier this year, Miller's iconic "Fly Like an Eagle" was inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry. His reach also spanned generations when Eminem sampled 1982's "Abracadabra" on his 2024 hit "Houdini." During his performances on last year's stadium tour, Miller thanked the rapper for using the song. Miller will also be honored June 9 with the Les Paul Spirit Award, named for the famed guitar innovator.
