Mada Membership Program

Join now Why become a member For more than a decade — since our founding on June 30, 2013 — Mada has stood as a critical voice, documenting political, economic and social conditions in Egypt and the region. Our publishing has extended across news, investigations, political and economic analysis, cultural criticism, documentaries, podcasts, and, on occasion, art. We have moved between the empirical and the analytical, between information and interpretation, between the gravely serious and the quietly urgent — refusing to look away. Across shifting landscapes and against mounting pressures, we have remained committed to the difficult, necessary work of bearing witness and imagining otherwise. Our journey has grown alongside you — your support, encouragement, ideas and insistence on challenging us to do better. This relationship has shaped our journalism, as it centers itself in the midst of communities in the form of a shared practice of critical thinking, paying close attention to what is happening around us and standing firm alongside those who, like us, refuse to remain indifferent to the struggles that demand our attention and care. Alongside this work, we have established not just a newsroom, but an institution shaped by the same questions we ask of the world: How do we sustain work that matters? How do we hold space for thinking, for simmering knowledge, for creation, for learning and influence, for individual action and collective struggle? We move through the urgencies of now, holding on to past futures that feel fragile but remain possible. In a world that exhausts hope and calls survival enough, we choose to build otherwise. The Mada Membership Program is at the heart of all this — essential not only to sustaining our journalism and institutional life, but also the principles that keep them alive: free inquiry, independent thought and the defence of cultural memory, historical truths and integrity. Membership upholds Mada's independence not just financially, but politically and ethically. It connects our resilience to our community of readers who demand more than mainstream narratives. Independent journalism is increasingly under threat from those seeking to dictate the discourse and control the flow of information. The support of Mada's community is the lifeline that sustains these freedoms. Membership is more than just support — it is solidarity. How do I join the Mada Membership Program? What are the long-term goals of Mada's membership program? We hope that in the next five years, 50 percent of our financial needs are covered by the Membership Program. Our dream is that down the line, members can form a forum to review our work and propose ways to move forward every year. How do I get involved beyond the membership?
