MLB goes full NASCAR with Braves, Reds uniforms for Speedway Classic at Bristol
In an effort to host more baseball games in more unique locations, the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves are set to play a game at Bristol Motor Speedway, the legendary auto racing track in Bristol, Tennessee, on August 2nd. This will be the first-ever MLB game played at a NASCAR track, and the teams involved are going all-out for their part in league history. On Monday, July 21, the Cincinnati Reds unveiled the uniforms they plan to wear for the contest: white jerseys equipped with classic checkered flag patterns and numbers in the same style seen on drivers' cars. The Braves also revealed their jerseys, which will feature similar NASCAR-inspired numbers, as well as a new ballcap designed by New Era with hod rod flames across the brim. The Aug. 2 game will count as a Reds home game and will be proceeded by games against the Braves at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park on July 31 and Aug. 1. The game will be held a little more than a month before the speedway, know as "The Last Great Colosseum," hosts NASCAR's annual Bristol Night Race on Saturday, Sept. 13. Furthermore, Reds' catcher Tyler Stephenson has already revealed a custom chest plate for the game, modeled after the movie 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.' The straps on the back of the protector include the famous line from the movie: "If you ain't first, you're last." Has Bristol hosted other major sporting events? Bristol Motor Speedway anually hosts two NASCAR weekends a year – one in the spring and one in late summer or early fall. The speedway hosted a college football game between the Tennessee Volunteers and Virginia Tech Hokies in 2016, which had almost 157,000 fans in attendance. Partnership with MLB: The Show The Bristol Motor Speedway ballpark as well as the Reds' and Braves' specialty uniforms are expected to be available to play with in the popular baseball video game MLB: The Show 25. What other fanfare will be at the Speedway Classic? There will be a pregame concert headlined by Tim McGraw, Pitbull, and Jake Owen. Owen will host a full day of musical sets in a dedicated fan zone at the venue, per Bristol Motor Speedway. The Commissioner's Trophy is also expected to make an appearance, giving fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to take photographs with baseball's most coveted trophy.

The fast-paced action flick F1: The Movie hit theaters this weekend, and based on early returns, audiences are loving it. It currently sits with a whopping 97% approval rating from audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes — the 83% critics rating makes it "Certified Fresh" — and is tracking to earn an impressive $55.6 million domestically and $144 million globally. F1: The Movie, which follows washed-up Formula 1 racer Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) as he tries to find himself and his place on a new team alongside up-and-coming driver Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), is the latest in a long line of driving-themed movies. So which of the racing movies is the best? Let's take a look at some of the top contenders. Please note this is movies only, so the Netflix miniseries Senna doesn't count. 8. Days of Thunder Is Days of Thunder a particularly good movie? No. Is it still iconic? Yes. Early Tom Cruise plays basically Maverick in a race car with a supporting cast of Robert Duvall, Nicole Kidman and Randy Quaid. Rubbing is racing. 7. Cars This Pixar movie spawned several sequels and has made Lightning McQueen a mainstay in pop culture — KACHOW! Not the best that the studio has put out, but Owen Wilson brings heart to the race track. 6. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is an utterly ridiculous movie and some of Will Ferrell's best work. It's wildly quotable — if you ain't first, you're last — and a hilarious look at the world of racing. 5. Gran Turismo Gran Turismo took the real story of Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe) turning from a video game racer to a real-life driver and brought it to the big screen. David Harbour, Orlando Bloom and Djimon Hounsou co-starred in this fast-paced and exciting sports flick full of emotion. 4. The Fast & The Furious While the rest of the franchise got away from the true racing aspect, the first was all about the underbelly of street racing (and family, of course). It's a truly iconic movie, led by Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. 3. Rush Rush tells the true story of rival racers James Hunt and Niki Lauda — played by Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl, respectively — that approached the art of Formula 1 racing in two vastly different ways. While their story obviously revolves around the track, it also tackles the physical and emotional toll racing has not just on the drivers, but the family in their lives. 2. F1: The Movie I fought the urge to put this at the top, but you could make the argument. Joseph Kosinski is masterful when it comes to putting the viewer right in the action, and after being snubbed in the cinematography category for Top Gun: Maverick, he should get a nod here. Pitt taps into full movie star mode, but it's Idris who truly shines. Kerry Condon is wonderful as the the team's technical lead, and Javier Bardem is wonderful as always. 1. Ford v Ferrari Christian Bale and Matt Damon star Ford v Ferrari, a true story about how American car designer Ken Carroll (Damon) and British driver Ken Miles worked alongside one another to build a Ford race car that could take on Ferrari at the iconic Le Mans race in 1966. It's full of emotion and incredible driving scenes, and it's worthy of the top spot.

Mission Possible? Jeff Gordon wants Tom Cruise to do 'Days of Thunder' sequel
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Jeff Gordon says he's trying to convince friend Tom Cruise to do a sequel to 'Days of Thunder.' The Hollywood Reporter noted last November that Cruise, also the star of the 'Mission Impossible' movies, was exploring a follow-up to his 1990 NASCAR film. Dustin Long, Cruise played 'Cole Trickle' in the movie. HIs role was loosely based on NASCAR driver Tim Richmond. 'I've absolutely talked to Tom about (a sequel) because I want him to do the project, and we want to be a part of it if it were to happen,' said Gordon, vice chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, after William Byron's Daytona 500 win. '(Cruise) seems to like to tease it, so I don't know. We'll see what happens. If that doesn't happen, I feel pretty confident there's a project out there that will get NASCAR back on the big screen, if not just a really cool docuseries or something beyond even what we're already seeing right now.' Nate Ryan, The 'Days of Thunder' movie was a seminal moment for the sport, giving it a big-screen presence as NASCAR's popularity began to rocket. Other movies followed. They included the 'Cars' movie franchise, which debuted in 2006 — the premiere was at Charlotte Motor Speedway — and had sequels in 2011 and '17. Will Ferrell starred in 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby' in 2006. Even if Cruise doesn't do another 'Days of Thunder' movie, future coming attractions could include a NASCAR-themed project. 'I am seeing just a lot more momentum in projects like coming through NASCAR and coming to Hendrick Motorsports and just more interest,' Gordon said. 'So that's good, right? It talks a lot about where the sport is at, where it's heading, the amazing crowd that was here all weekend, not just (Sunday), new TV partners. 'So I do think that there's this kind of resurgence, which is awesome, and there's also a whole new landscape of opportunities with streaming services and docuseries and also the big screen, which I think it would be amazing to do.'
