FDOT to add turn lane for busy Chick-fil-A entrance on Capital Circle NE

Tallahassee motorists have long been vexed trying to negotiate traffic jams caused by other drivers backed up on Capital Circle Northeast, waiting to get in to the Chick-fil-a next to Texas Roadhouse. Now, the Florida Department of Transportation is coming to the rescue. Department staff members held a public meeting at Grace Lutheran Church the evening of June 26 to share with residents proposed changes to the always busy roadway. The big news out of that meeting: FDOT is looking to create a designated right turn lane leading to the Chick-fil-a. The lane would create a safer entry point for those wanting to turn and will allow traffic to flow more smoothly, with other drivers unhindered by those looking to grab a bite. The proposed lane is part of the department's "U.S. 319 (Capital Circle) Resurfacing Project," which aims "to resurface existing travel lanes, auxiliary lanes, median crossovers, and paved shoulders." According to the project description, it will also include "resurfacing Killearn Center Boulevard, the State Road 61 Flyover, and Market Street." Bids for construction are expected to go out in early 2026. According to FDOT spokesperson Lindsey Harrell, the total budget for the project is around $8.6 million. She said construction will take around a year and will occur at night "so as not to cause ... a huge disturbance to drivers during the day." The new turn lane was well received by those who showed up at the meeting. For example, Alan Mitchell said his family "goes by there quite often and (we) always comment on how traffic is backed up, trying to get in" to the Chick-fil-A. "... They didn't quite adjust for what was going to be necessary to get people in there without blocking through traffic." Information for the project can be found at You can also subscribe for email updates. For specific questions, Project Manager Amy Heikkinen can be reached at or by phone at 850-867-2537. Alabama Fans React to Thomas Castellanos' Over Controversial Comments

Alabama Fans React to Thomas Castellanos' Over Controversial Comments originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Alabama Crimson Tide were not themselves last season. For the first time since 2007 — their second season of a dominant 17-year stretch under head coach Nick Saban — Alabama failed to win ten games. Although unprecedented in the program's last decade of performance, it was still a successful season regarding the standards of nearly every other FBS team. Advertisement Alabama went 9-4, tallied three ranked wins, and took down the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl, 28-14. However, one offensive leader believes Alabama's best days are behind them and is counting down the days until he gets to take the field against the Tide. Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen David Mercer-Imagn Images On Monday, Florida State Seminoles transfer quarterback Thomas Castellanos made headlines for his thoughts on his team's season opener against Alabama. "They don't have Nick Saban to save them. I just don't see them stopping me," said Castellanos per ON3's Pete Nakos. Castellanos calls playing Alabama a "dream" but expects a big showing against the 15-time national championship-winning program. Florida State will face the SEC power in Tallahassee in the season opener. Advertisement Naturally, Alabama fans found it odd for Castellanos to expect a strong outing against the Crimson Tide. Last season, Florida State won just two games. Meanwhile, Castellanos-led teams are 9-10 in games in which he has thrown at least ten passes. "Daydreaming, Tommy couldn't even keep the starting QB spot at UCF," said one fan about Castellanos, who is playing for his third school in four years. Another fan suggested that Alabama will win in a blowout, saying, "Alabama alt spread -39.5." "This guy threw for 1366 yards last year, lol," one fan pointed out about Castellanos' lackluster passing stats last season. Advertisement One neutral fan suggested Castellanos not make enemies this summer, saying, "I don't think giving them bulletin board material is the greatest of ideas." Lastly, one fan had a simple one-word response, saying, "Who?" Castellanos transferred to FSU after spending the past two seasons with the Boston College Golden Eagles. He tossed 33 touchdowns against 19 interceptions in 21 games while rushing for 1,307 yards and 14 scores. DeSantis rejects ‘Alligator Alcatraz' concerns, says detention center poses ‘zero' threat to Everglades

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday rejected environmental criticism of a proposed immigration detention center in the Everglades dubbed 'Alligator Alcatraz.' 'There's zero environmental,' DeSantis said during a press conference in Tampa. 'You're talking about the guy who plowed how much money into Everglades restoration?' Details: Environmental groups and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava have raised environmental concerns about the detention center being built at a 10,500-foot air strip west of Miami owned by the county. Advertisement But DeSantis labeled the county's response as 'more posturing.' He insisted the facility will be temporary and said the state, which has offered to buy the property, eventually would let the Everglades 'grow over' the site.

Ex-UCF Quarterback Puts Alabama on Notice With Blunt Message

Ex-UCF Quarterback Puts Alabama on Notice With Blunt Message originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The UCF Knights have their own ongoing quarterback battle, but one of the team's former signal-callers is grabbing college football headlines for potentially the wrong reasons. UCF fans will be keeping an eye on the Florida State Seminoles this season and now the rest of the college football world will be as well as the team opens the season against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Advertisement Former head coach Gus Malzahn surprisingly bolted Orlando, Fla., to take the offensive coordinator role with the Noles following the 2024 season. Malzahn was a major factor in Florida State landing former UCF quarterback Thomas Castellanos. The playmaking signal-caller moved to Tallahassee, Fla, this offseason via the transfer portal after two seasons with the Boston College Eagles. UCF Knights quarterback Thomas Castellanos (12) throws a pass during the second half against the Temple Owls at FBC Mortgage Watters-Imagn Images Castellanos played in five games for the Knights during his freshman season at UCF in 2022. Now, Castellanos made some surprising comments about Florida State battling Alabama on Aug. 30. The Noles quarterback does not see Alabama "stopping me" in the season opener. Advertisement 'I'm excited, man,' Castellanos told On3's Pete Nakos in an interview on Monday. 'People, I don't know if they know, but you go back and watch every first game that I played in, we always start fast. I dreamed of moments like this. "I dreamed of playing against Alabama. They don't have Nick Saban to save them. I just don't see them stopping me." Both Florida State and Castellanos are looking for a bounce back opportunity in 2025. The Seminoles are coming off a 2-10 season, while Castellanos was part of a musical chairs situation at quarterback with Boston College in 2024. Castellanos threw for 1,366 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 61.5% of his passes during eight appearances in 2024. Potentially angering Alabama's defense is an interesting way to start his Florida State tenure.
