New Jersey municipal course wraps up multi-million-dollar renovation

Tamarack Golf Course in East Brunswick, Jew Jersey, reopened its West Course on Thursday after an extensive multi-million-dollar, 18-month renovation. Everything from the irrigation system to all 18 greens is new. Tamarack's West Course in East Brunswick, New Jersey, has undergone an extensive renovation. Tamarack is home to two 18-hole layouts, the East and West, both originally designed by Hal Purdy. Tamarack is owned by Middlesex County and managed by Indigo Sports, a Troon company. Architect Mark Mungeam headed up the renovation work to the West, which began in 2023 and included: Advertisement All 18 greens were rebuilt to USGA specifications and seeded with bent grass. Fairways were reshaped and re-grassed with bent. Tee boxes were laser-leveled and re-grassed with Kentucky bluegrass. Approximately 75 tee boxes were added, and the course stretches more than 7,000 yards. Each bunker was renovated, and they all now utilize Capillary Concrete liners. New cart paths were added. A new irrigation system was installed, and fresh drainage should help conditioning. 'I am very excited about the upgrades made to Tamarack West,' Mungeam said in a media release announcing completion of the project. 'The renovated course will be fun for all golfers, with enough strategic options and challenges to captivate the best players and beginners. Tee expansions allow the course to be played at any length from 4,900 to 7,000 yards. Though the corridors are the same as the original course, each hole has been completely rebuilt and the nines have been reversed. The gently rolling land through woods and streams provides a delightful setting. I firmly believe that Middlesex County residents will enjoy and embrace the 'new' West Course.'
