Tamarion Watkins, a top football recruit from South Carolina, announced his commitment to Texas A&M on Monday. Watkins, a senior safety at Northwestern High School, made his decision public during a ceremony attended by family and friends. He had narrowed his choices to four schools, including Georgia, South Carolina, and Miami, before selecting Texas A&M. Advertisement 'I probably had this feeling for two weeks now,' Watkins said. Texas A&M is trending for 2026 4-star WR, who placed the Aggies in his final list
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is now 25 commitments deep after landing four-star safety/linebacker Tamarion Watkins on Monday afternoon, which was preceded by the news that four-star wide receiver Jace Mathews out of Mississippi placed the Aggies in his final four program list alongside Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss. After losing out on 2026 four-star wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster, who committed to USC, coach Mike Elko and WR coach Holmon Wiggins are looking to land the program's fourth wide receiver commit to join four-stars Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, and Mike Brown, who have all shut down their recruitment. Mathews has not been considered a heavy favorite to land with the Aggies, but according to AggieSI writer Landyn Rosow, the situation has shifted in Texas A&M's favor. "Though LSU and Ole Miss remain involved, sources tell AggiesSI that A&M is trending in the right direction. One source familiar with the situation said, 'A&M's sitting in a great spot right now. If the decision came today, they'd have a real shot.' Mathews is considered one of the best route runners in the 2026 class, with excellent separation skills, soft hands, and impressive downfield burst. During his 2024 junior season, Mathews reeled in 1,138 yards and 15 touchdowns, and will more than likely play in the slot at the next level. After his official visit to College Station on June 13, the Aggie staff has stayed in constant contact with the standout receiver. Set to announce his decision on August 8, all four programs, especially Auburn and LSU, still have time to make progress. However, after securing Tamarion Watkins' commitment over South Carolina, Texas A&M's recruiting momentum has surpassed nearly every program this summer and should continue into next month. 2026 4-star DB is reportedly down to Texas A&M and South Carolina
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class has been one of the hottest cycles throughout the summer. While Notre Dame and Georgia's 2026 classes have overtaken the Aggies, rankings are meaningless at the end of the year, as the program has assembled an elite group of athletes who have future star potential. One of the cycle's potential new additions is set to announce his commitment on July 14, as 2026 four-star safety Tamarion Watkins is reportedly down to South Carolina and Texas A&M as the final two programs he will consider heading into the new month. Watkins has been an Aggie target for quite some time, and despite the Gamecocks leading the way for the South Carolina native, Watkins feels that both programs would be an excellent fit for his versatile skill set, as the Aggies likely intend to use him as a slot corner at the next level paired with his safety responsibilities. "Now that I've had a great time at all of these places, I've narrowed it down. I'm focused on two" Outside of his elite coverage ability, Watkins is a form tackler who isn't afraid to make contact, especially in the box against the run. During his 2024 junior season, he recorded 75 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three interceptions. Texas A&M's safety future is in good hands, mainly due to the youth at the position, while Elko has done a solid job in the transfer portal when replenishing position groups. Watkins may not be a five-star prospect who's seen as an instant contributor. Still, his future is undoubtedly bright, and he should develop into a reliable defender for either defense. Georgia football secures visit from four-star safety recruit
Four-star safety recruit Tamarion Watkins has set official visits with three SEC teams: the South Carolina Gamecocks, Texas A&M Aggies, and the Georgia Bulldogs. Watkins will take all three visits in June. He is also scheduled to officially visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, according to 247Sports. Watkins is a four-star safety in the class of 2026. The 6-foot-3, 199-pound safety plays football at Northwestern High School at Rock Hill, South Carolina. Currently, 247Sports' Hale McGranahan predicts that Watkins will commit to South Carolina, but the recruiting race is wide open for the elite safety's talents. Watkins also attended Georgia's 2025 Junior Day, where he trained alongside Georgia commits Vance Spafford and Jontavius Wyman. Georgia recruiting targets Jae Lamar, Tyler Atkinson, and LaDamian Guyton also attended. Advertisement Georgia is looking to bolster their 2026 recruiting class, which consists of just Spafford, Wyman, tight end Lincoln Keyes, safety Zech Fort, and defensive lineman Seven Cloud. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 15th in the nation for their 2026 recruiting class, and with a new scouting director, they'll no doubt be looking to bring together a top five recruiting class for the 10th year in a row. Georgia football finished with the No. 2 signing class in the 2025 cycle, so we expect things to pick up in the class of 2026 soon.
