Kelsey Mitchell breaks one of Tamika Catchings' Fever records — not an easy thing to do

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Kelsey Mitchell continues to etch her name in Indiana Fever history. With her second 3-pointer against the New York Liberty night, Mitchell became the franchise leader in 3-pointers made with 607, passing Fever legend Tamika Catchings' 606. It's Mitchell's first outright franchise record so far. More 3-point shooting: Caitlin Clark to compete in first WNBA 3-point contest A shooting guard with a career 37.8% 3-point field goal percentage, Mitchell only needed eight seasons to pass Catchings' record, set in 2016 after 14 seasons. Mitchell was drafted to the Fever at No. 2 overall in 2018 and has spent her entire professional career with Indiana. She is quickly becoming one of the top tenured players in franchise history — she recently passed Briann January, now a Fever assistant coach, for second in games played. Mitchell, with 254 games in a Fever uniform, only trails Catchings' 457 games. Chloe Peterson is the Indiana Fever beat reporter for IndyStar. Nneka Ogwumike climbs historic list with big night before All-Star break

Nneka Ogwumike added another milestone to her legendary WNBA career on Wednesday, moving into sixth place on the league's all-time scoring list during the Seattle Storm's 67-58 win over the Golden State Valkyries. The 10-time All-Star scored 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting while also tallying eight rebounds, a steal, a block, and one assist. It was a strong all-around performance that helped lift the Storm just before the league's All-Star break. Nneka Ogwumike moves to sixth on WNBA's all-time scoring list Ogwumike entered the night with 6,874 career points, needing 22 to pass Candice Dupree's total of 6,895. She hit that mark exactly, bringing her career total to 6,896. 'ELEVATE,' the WNBA posted in celebration of the moment. 'With 22 PTS today vs. the Valkyries, Nneka Ogwumike passes Candice Dupree to claim 6th place on the All-Time Scoring List!' At 35, Ogwumike continues to play at an elite level. Her scoring average has risen to 17.1 points per game this season, proving she remains one of the league's most consistent and dangerous offensive threats. While reaching the top five this season may be just out of reach, she still trails Tamika Catchings by 485 points, another solid year could easily change that. If Ogwumike returns for the 2026 season and maintains her current pace, she could pass Catchings (7,381 career points), Tina Thompson (7,488), and even DeWanna Bonner (7,575), who currently sits at No. 3 but remains active. MORE: Kelsey Mitchell passes Tamika Catchings for Indiana Fever franchise 3-point record The top two spots are safely held for now. Tina Charles (8,040 points) and Diana Taurasi (10,646) lead the all-time list, and it would take several more dominant seasons for any current player to challenge them. Ogwumike's rise has been steady and impressive. After spending her entire career with the Los Angeles Sparks, she signed with the Seattle Storm ahead of the 2025 season, bringing veteran leadership to a younger squad. Her presence has helped Seattle stay competitive in a tight league race heading into the All Star break. Seattle won the game 67-58 over Golden State. WNBA Legend Tamika Catchings Sends Message After Kelsey Mitchell Breaks Her Fever Record

WNBA Legend Tamika Catchings Sends Message After Kelsey Mitchell Breaks Her Fever Record originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Wednesday night's trip to Barclays Center delivered another puzzle for the Indiana Fever, a 98–77 defeat to the New York Liberty. Yet despite the loss, veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell rewrote the franchise record books. Just under seven minutes into the first quarter, Mitchell rose to drill her 607th career 3-pointer, officially surpassing Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings as the Fever's all-time leader in made threes. Catchings set the original 3-pointer benchmark over 15 seasons (2002-2016), retiring as a 10-time All-Star, seven-time All-WNBA First Team honoree, five-time Defensive Player of the Year, 2011 MVP and 2012 champion. Shortly after the milestone moment, Catchings recorded a congratulatory video message for Mitchell that the Fever reshared on X. "Records are meant to be broken," Catchings said. "But if there's anybody I'm glad to see break it, it's you. I'm super proud of you. Let's go, Fever. Get that dub." Selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft out of Ohio State, Mitchell has spent eight seasons anchoring Indiana's backcourt. She entered Wednesday's contest averaging a career-best 19.3 points per game while connecting on 36.4% of her long-range attempts. Over 255 games in a Fever uniform, prior to Wednesday's matchup, Mitchell has averaged 17.0 points, 2.8 assists and 2.0 rebounds, earning three consecutive All-Star nods, a WNBA All-Rookie Team selection in 2018 and appearing twice in the league's 3-Point Contest. In 2023, she was awarded the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award for her leadership on and off the court, becoming just the fourth Fever player ever to do so, joining Natalie Achonwa (2020) and Catchings (2008, 2016). As the team prepares for a second matchup with the Liberty on July 22 and its All-Star festivities at home, Mitchell's achievement serves as both a milestone and a motivator.
