PAS leader dismisses talk of Abdul Hadi stepping down, say president's health ‘better than before'

MARANG, July 5 – Those close to PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang have denied claims he plans to step down from his post amid his health woes, saying such speculation has only come from outside the party. Utusan Malaysia cited Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman, who previously served as Abdul Hadi's political secretary, saying the rumours had surfaced ahead of the party's 71st Muktamar or annual congress in September but were unfounded. 'We haven't heard anything about it internally. It's just talk from outsiders,' he was quoted saying. 'Even the deputy president has addressed this. Those of us close to him, even his family, have heard nothing,' he added, referring to Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. Tuan Ibrahim had recently said he feels Abdul Hadi should remain in the role, rather than being moved to be the spiritual leader. Mohd Syahir added that Abdul Hadi's health had significantly improved following a medical procedure at the National Heart Institute last week, and that his recovery has been swift. He said the doctors treating Abdul Hadi were also satisfied with his progress and that he is expected to attend more public events in person moving forward. 'Tok Guru's health is very good, even better than before. He's already resumed his lectures and attended meetings, so there's nothing preventing him from joining more physical events,' he said, referring to Abdul Hadi. Following the lecture, Abdul Hadi's aides requested that media personnel give the PAS president space and refrain from seeking comments from him. Abdul Hadi resumed delivering his weekly duha lecture on Friday, which he had paused for over a month due to treatment at IJN on June 17. He has conducted the session weekly for decades, with the last held on May 30 before his recent break. Despite still recovering, Abdul Hadi also attended funeral prayers on Monday for the late Hamzah Ngah, former PAS Kuala Terengganu deputy chief, at Masjid Rusila in Terengganu.

Possible shake-up for top two leaders in PAS muktamar as spiritual adviser says all posts open to contest

KANGAR, July 5 – PAS said it is open to contests for all positions, including the top posts of president and deputy president, at its 71st Muktamar or annual congress scheduled for September. Its spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin was quoted saying the Islamist part has a history of allowing contests at all levels and the decision on whether to challenge the top leadership would ultimately lie with the delegates. 'As of now, I am not aware whether there will be contests for the posts of president or deputy president. Whether or not there is a contest will be determined at the muktamar,' he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia. Hashim noted that unlike some parties, PAS does not discourage contests for leadership roles. 'PAS is always open to contests, as long as the nominations meet the requirements,' he added. Recent media reports had speculated that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang might step down due to health concerns, though this has been denied by party leaders. Utusan reproted that the Pengkalan Chepa PAS Youth wing has nominated vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah for the deputy president post. The incumbent, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, reportedly said he would consider the nominations before making a decision.

‘Leadership isn't about physical strength': PAS backs Hadi to stay as president despite heart surgery, with Tuan Ibrahim dismissing renewal concerns

PARIT, June 22 — PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has today affirmed the party's continued support for Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to remain as president, amid calls for a leadership change due to health concerns and party rejuvenation. New Straits Times reported Tuan Ibrahim saying Abdul Hadi's leadership and vision remain vital for PAS, especially following the Islamist party's recent electoral gains and strong performance. 'There are no major health issues. Tuan Guru recently received treatment at the National Heart Institute, and he is in good health. We expect him to be discharged within a day or two,' he said, referring to Abdul Hadi. 'Our best achievements were under Tok Guru's leadership including 34 parliamentary seats and victories in numerous state seats. So why stop when we are succeeding? 'Leadership is not about physical strength, but about ideas, vision, and management. That is what truly matters, and we believe Tok Guru is still capable,' he added while officianting the PAS Parit division annual general meeting. His comments come amid speculation of a potential leadership reshuffle ahead of the party's 71st Muktamar — or annual congress — in September, part of wider discussions on internal renewal. In February, it was reported that Tuan Ibrahim had not confirmed whether he would defend his deputy president post, stating that it was up to PAS delegates to nominate him if they wished. Tuan Ibrahim also highlighted Abdul Hadi's influence in global Islamic circles, saying he is regularly consulted on international issues, including the Sunni-Shiah divide and the Israel conflict. Abdul Hadi, who is also Marang MP, had earlier this week undergone heart surgery. Supporters and critics have predicted that Abdul Hadi may take the less strenuous post of spiritual adviser rather than president, with Datuk Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar widely seen as a possible successor.

PAS condemns US attack on Iran

PETALING JAYA: The attack on Iran by the United States is a violation of sovereignty and a war crime under international law, says PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang. He said that the attack amounts to an invasion that contravenes the United Nations Charter. 'This act not only violates Iran's sovereignty but also constitutes a war crime that clearly breaches international law and the UN Charter,' he said on Sunday (June 22). He said that the assault reveals the 'true nature' of the US and its ally, Israel, accusing them of acting like terrorists with no regard for international norms. 'This attack exposes the true face of the United States and its ally, Israel, as terrorists who blatantly disregard international law and universal humanitarian values,' he added. He urged the UN Security Council and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to take firm action against this aggression. 'PAS calls for strong and immediate action from the UN Security Council and the OIC to halt this aggression and to condemn the arrogance of the United States, which remains a staunch ally of the illegitimate Israeli regime,' he said.
