Police suspect murder after 98-yr-old woman found dead at home in central Japan
The Mie Prefectural Police first investigation division and Toba Police Station set up an investigative task force on June 23 after an elderly woman was found dead at her home in the prefectural city of Shima, suspecting murder. According to the prefectural police, Teruko Tani, 98, was found in her pajamas on a futon facing up in a room near the entrance, her face covered in blood, by her 94-year-old brother at around 10 a.m. on June 20. He contacted the police via her primary physician. Tani lived alone, and there were no signs suggesting someone went through the house. An autopsy found that Tani had marks on her head suggesting she had been struck, and had suffered fractures to both arms and her upper jaw. An eyewitness reportedly saw Tani's relative, who is now hospitalized for her underlying conditions, leave the house after hearing what sounded like an argument at around 9 p.m. on June 19. Police believe that this relative may know the circumstances of Tani's death, and plan to question her after she recovers. Tani's house is located in a residential area near a fishing port. A neighbor told the Mainichi Shimbun, "I saw her often hanging out the laundry and taking the trash out, but I haven't seen her at all this past week or so." Miscreants hurl bombs at house, office of Odisha businessman
BHUBANESWAR: In yet another incident pointing towards the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, a group of miscreants allegedly hurled bombs at the residence and self-drive car rental office of a businessman on Wednesday night. Police said, the attack was a fallout of previous enmity as one of the miscreants, Tani, nursed a previous grudge against the businessman Deepak Moharana. Tani had reportedly uploaded a series of posts on his Instagram account threatening Moharana to kill him. As per eyewitness accounts, a group of eight to 10 miscreants arrived in an SUV in the night and hurled bombs at Moharana's office at Sampur area in Bharatpur, before fleeing. Lodging a complaint in this connection with Bharatpur police, Moharana alleged Tani was behind the attack and the goons had hurled another bomb at his residence in Ghatikia too. 'Tani was earlier working in my office but I asked him to leave a few months back as he was involved in anti-social activities. Since then, he has been issuing threats to me,' Moharana told mediapersons. He claimed that the anti-socials hurled at least five bombs at his office which damaged four vehicles, and he sustained serious loss due to the incident. Police said they are examining Tani's social media posts and have launched a search operation to nab him and others. 'A case has been registered and efforts are on to nab all the accused persons involved in the crime,' said Bharatpur IIC, Deepak Khandayatray

Police bust cross-border militant recruitment network in Arunachal
Itanagar, The Arunachal Pradesh Police on Thursday said they have busted a network involving militant recruitment, arms trafficking, and cross-border criminal activity in the state. The racket was linked to the National Socialist Council for Taniland and its armed wing, the United Tani Army , a senior police officer said here. "Taniland" refers to a proposed state for the Tani community people, a group of tribes living mainly in the state's northeastern region, particularly along the border with Assam. Several groups advocated for the creation of "Taniland". An investigation began in January after the police took suo moto cognisance of threatening videos and letters circulated on social media, allegedly issued by an NSCT leader Anthony Doke, who was wanted in 20 cases. A case was registered in this regard under various sections of the BNS and UA, Capital Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh told reporters here. Several people were arrested for recruiting youth from marginalised communities into the UTA and other offences like the Arms Act violation. 'Intelligence inputs confirmed involvement of some of them in an attempt to traffic a young boy from the Tarasso region in Papum Pare district to a militant training camp in Myanmar,' the SP said. He added that further investigation revealed that at least three other boys had already been taken out of Itanagar to recruit them into the UTA by force. Two of those boys have returned, sharing disturbing accounts of physical and mental torture and harsh living conditions during their forced training, the SP said. A chargesheet in the case has already been submitted, while investigations are still on, he said. On April 30, the police arrested one person linked to NSCN-KYA, who was engaged in extorting money from contractors to fund insurgent operations, Singh said adding that arms and ammunition were also recovered. During interrogation, the arrested man said about an arms trafficking network based in Itanagar, with links to insurgent groups in Nagaland. More arrests, recovery of arms and unaccounted cash followed, the SP said. 'In response, a second case was registered at Itanagar Police Station under sections of the BNS, section 13 of the UA and sections of the Arms Act, targeting the wider network involved in the distribution and concealment of illegal arms,' Singh said. During the course of the investigation, authorities also uncovered a connection between this arms racket and a narcotics network operating in the Gohpur–Chimpu corridor near the state capital Itanagar, he said. This resulted in a third case being registered at Chimpu Police Station under the NDPS Act. Two individuals were arrested, and narcotics were seized during follow-up operations.
