Tanishq Launches Diamond Expertise Centre with De Beers

Tanishq, India's leading jewellery brand, has partnered with De Beers Group to introduce the Tanishq Diamonds Expertise Centre — a pioneering initiative designed to revolutionize diamond retail by placing knowledge, trust, and transparency at the forefront of the buying experience. This in-store centre empowers customers to evaluate natural diamonds using cutting-edge technology, addressing a long-standing need for clarity and assurance in diamond purchasing. Through this initiative, Tanishq is reshaping how diamonds are understood and chosen, ensuring that every customer engages with the gem's brilliance, authenticity, and craftsmanship on their own terms. The centre uses five advanced tools to assess key diamond characteristics such as light performance, origin, inclusions, and laser markings. Tools like Lightscope and SynthDetect offer scientific insights into a diamond's sparkle and authenticity, eliminating ambiguity from the buying process. By making gemological data visually accessible and easy to understand, Tanishq ensures customers make informed, confident decisions. The launch was celebrated with a gala in Mumbai attended by over 150 guests, including celebrities Sushmita Sen, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sapna Pabbi. Guests explored Tanishq's signature collections including Ethereal Wonders and Radiance In Rhythm, the latter of which debuted at Paris Couture Week. The evening culminated in a striking fashion showcase, presenting the evolution of Tanishq's craftsmanship and design legacy. Ajoy Chawla, CEO of Tanishq, Titan Company Ltd., remarked, 'This launch sets a new standard in diamond retail. We're committed to making diamond buying transparent, educational, and empowering through real-time data and expert guidance.' Amit Pratihari, Managing Director, De Beers India, added, 'This collaboration is a milestone in creating an authentic diamond experience — one that is real, rare, and responsible. With advanced tech now in stores, we aim to build lasting trust and elevate the natural diamond journey for Indian consumers.'

Stress in Rs 50k-1 lakh price points: Titan's jewellery biz head

File photo MUMBAI: Geopolitical uncertainty and trade tariff jitters are weighing on hiring and new job openings in certain sectors, impacting discretionary spending by consumers across sectors ranging from apparel to auto. In the jewellery space which still has an edge given the intrinsic value gold and diamond hold, spends have been a bit better comparatively but fluctuating gold prices have hit demand in the sub Rs 50,000-1 lakh (pricing) category, said Ajoy Chawla, CEO of jewellery division at Titan. Mass markets are largely bearing the brunt of the surrounding uncertainty at least in the jewellery space; premium and luxury segments continue to fare well. 'Sentiment has been subdued in the lower price points, the customer there is beginning to feel the pinch of high gold prices. 'At the same time, some are going through tough times (referring to factors such as job uncertainty) ….and customerers are a bit under pressure. Uncertainity taking a toll Many international IT/tech companies have been reducing jobs and some of that is kind of flowing back. The volatility that we have come to live with now for the past five-six quarters continues,' Chawla told TOI in an interview on the sidelines of a company event here on Friday, adding that early end of season sales being rolled out by certain firms (across industries) indicate wobbly demand. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Rates Undo Fluctuating sentiment 'The sentiment is not bad but it is fluctuating…uncertainty affects consumers in different ways. The greatest stress is below Rs 50,000 and 1 lakh segment in both gold and diamond,' Chawla said, pinning hopes on tax breaks to partly lift broader consumption through the course of the year. For Titan which owns brands Tanishq and Zoya, the June quarter has been decent but it could have been better, said Chawla who is set to take over as the MD of Titan from Jan 1. Consumers in the mass segment may shift to jewellery with lesser gold content and light weight items and the industry as a whole will need to innovate to boost demand in the near-term. 'We are getting people used to lower caratage products in gold. We have piloted it in the North and the East and the initial response has been good. All the fundamentals of the India growth story are here. We have to stimulate demand in the short run, manage our inventory and gold prices with agility,' Chawla said. There's also a push to bolster the trust of people in diamonds which only has a 15% penetration in India. To this end, Tanishq has partnered with De Beers Group to set up diamonds expertise centres across its stores. Mumbai social scavengers are a special breed—did full paisa vasooli on Bastille Day in Taj

I oiled my hair and planned an evening of solo celebration, with a glass of chilled bubbly. Real bubbly. Champagne. Not local Chandon, which is the same thing, and yet not. It is called sparkling wine. The French are particular about trademarks, GST, and patents. Unlike Prada. I wasn't invited, but my daughter was. I instructed her to wear a silk saree, not a 'gown' à la Urvashi Rautela, who wears gowns everywhere, even to Wimbledon. Avantikka disobeyed and wore an electric blue caftan. Yesterday was the 14th of July. The French National Day. Bastille Day. Many of Mumbai's Francophiles were busy: the ladies preening at the salon, the men dusting the lapels of their sharply tailored suits — or, if you are Ranjit Hoskote, looking for a suitable cravat. At last year's Bastille Day celebrations in Mumbai, Sania Mirza was the guest of honour. Kalki Koechlin did the honours in 2025 and made a wonderful speech. Kalki is bona fide French. There were over 550 invitees, most of whom had been practising bonsoir and merci beaucoup for weeks. Some overwhelmed guests were seen bowing to the cerebral Consul General, Monsieur Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, like he was French royalty. In India, bowing and scraping comes naturally to many. Especially in front of White people from embassies and consulates. You never know when you may need that visa at short notice – best to make nice. Vive La France This year, the French upped the game and took over the entire first floor of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Colourful sarees were draped over the grand staircase, while a pianist sang soulful chansons. Quel dommage the speeches were not in Marathi spoken with a strong French accent. Who wants to get beaten up next…Mon Dieu! In 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited to Paris by French President Emmanuel Macron to witness the impressive military parade on the Champs Élysées, as Indian troops marched smartly with their French counterparts. Much bonhomie was expressed by the two leaders. And no, this was not the occasion when Macron was seemingly slapped by his wife, Brigitte. That happened this year in May, when their aircraft landed in Hanoi. Relax! The president clarified they were just 'joking and horsing around.' Hota hai, yaar. Miya-biwi pyaar can take unexpected turns. Rest assured, l'amour between the two is intact, okay? Ignore those mean black eye memes. The lovely thing about India's relationship with France? It just got lovelier. Paris Couture Week 2025 witnessed a gorgeous showing of Rahul Mishra's haute couture, where the très jolie Lisa Haydon stole the show from glum-faced models who looked like they were suffering from a serious gastric ailment and needed an urgent pit stop at the nearest loo. It was our luminous Lisa who changed the vaatavaran on the runway and shone as brilliantly as the diamonds from Tanishq – a special collaboration between the brand and Rahul Mishra. The venue for Mumbai's Bastille Day celebrations has been the Taj Mahal Hotel for years. The format of the soirée remains monotonous and unchanged: standard speeches on bilateral ties, both national anthems, a toast, and then a quick wrap-up as canapés disappear and the bar shuts down. But in the latest edition – voilà! There was a lavish buffet serving French staples like coq au vin. We desis are used to lingering and loitering at such events, doing full vasooli of free food and drinks, minus embarrassment. The few Frenchies dotting the ballroom snootily speak to one another and leave the minute formalities are over. The regulars (those who assiduously cultivate the migratory birds, also known as consulate officials) hang around hoping to pile on to anybody offering a ride home — or dinner. Mumbai's social scavengers are a special breed. Also read: Marathi wins in Mumbai's monsoon madness—and Maharashtrian mulgi gives competition to Malaika Scuffles and sordid affairs Politically, things are pretty thanda in Mumbai, give or take a few scuffles. I often used to wish I could swap places with suburban autorickshaw drivers, especially the ones plying in Bandra. What a life! New adventures every day! Models and movie stars as passengers. Imagine ferrying a wounded Saif Ali Khan to hospital — instant fame! Hello Bhajan Singh Rana from Uttarakhand. But this week's victimised autorickshaw driver is from Virar, not glam-sham Bandra. I definitely don't want to swap places with Raju Patwa. But I would love to invite him for a vada pav treat soon. The guy had the guts to defiantly tell a Marathi-speaking pedestrian — whom he had accidentally brushed against — that he spoke Bhojpuri and Hindi, not Marathi. That was his big crime! Reportedly, he was later hunted down by Shiv Sena (UBT) workers led by Uday Jadhav, violently assaulted, and forced to apologise. Meanwhile, the Mahjong Madames of Mumbai's uber-elite circles are cluck-clucking over the big scandale du jour. A 40-year-old married teacher and mother of two kids allegedly seduced her 16-year-old male student. The underage boy's parents were forced to file an FIR against the besotted lady. The juicy details of this unusual affair are upsetting the Mahjong Madames, who need full concentration while playing with those 144 tiles. Talk of uncanny coincidences — take a quick look at the Macrons' marriage, dear Mahjong Madames. It may provide clarity. Brigitte was Emmanuel's teacher in school. She was 39, he was 16 and a classmate of her daughter's. His parents removed him from school. But the romance continued when he went to college. They eventually married in 2007, when Brigitte was 54 and he was 29. They've been happily married for 18 years. Give or take a few slaps and black eyes. There's still hope for the Mumbai teacher and her student. Vive La France! Shobhaa De is an author, columnist, social commentator, and opinion-shaper. She has written 20 books. She tweets @DeShobhaa. Uttarakhand: Man held in connection with Rs 3.7 Crore jewellery robbery case in Bihar

The robbery took place on July 26, 2024, when six members of the Subodh gang stole jewellery worth Rs 3.70 crore at gunpoint from a Tanishq showroom located in the Khajanchi Haat area of Purnia district in Bihar, Bhullar said. The accused, identified as Rahul alias Mohammad Shakib, had been absconding since July last year. He was arrested from the Piran Kaliyar area of Haridwar district, where he was living under a changed identity, STF Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar said. Dehradun, Jul 13 (PTI) The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday arrested a man for his alleged involvement in the robbery of jewellery worth Rs 3.70 crore from a showroom in Bihar in 2024, officials said. One of the accused, Chunmun Jha, was killed in a police encounter. Four others are currently lodged in jail, while Shakib had been on the run since the incident. Bhullar said the Uttarakhand STF received information from the Bihar STF that Shakib was living in the Kaliyar police station area. Based on this input, he was traced and arrested. It was also learned that Shakib, along with Chunmun Jha and other members of the gang, had killed a leader of the Lok Janshakti Party in Bihar in 2021, for which he served a two-year jail sentence, Bhullar added.
