Favourite British comedian forced to cancel shows after saying he's quitting sta
Rob Beckett has been forced to axe a string of shows after previously announcing he was quitting stand-up. The comedian began performing stand-up in 2009, making his debut at Edinburgh Fringe three years later. He is now best known for appearing on shows including Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Taskmaster and Lol: Last One Laughing UK. However, in March, the 39-year-old detailed his plans to take a step back from the stage. A month after Rob had announced he was stepping down from his BBC Radio 2 show, he explained he was planning on pausing stand-up shows to prioritise time with his children. Although he'd had shows planned in Scotland next week, Rob's now had to pull the plug after falling ill. Posting a message on Instagram, he wrote: 'Hello everyone, I'm so sorry but I'm not well and can't do the shows in Scotland this week. 'Aberdeen has been rescheduled to Wednesday 14th Jan 20206 and Edinburgh has been rescheduled to Thursday 15th Jan 2026. 'The venue will be in touch, but tickets remain valid for both shows. I hate doing this, but I'm not well enough to give you the best show possible, but I look forward to seeing you all at the new shows.' Despite his plans to take a break from stand-up, Rob has shows throughout the UK up until April next year. While most of Rob's upcoming stand-up shows have sold out, these ones still have tickets available: Southend- Cliffs Pavilion (September 10) Derry- Millennium Forum (September 25) Dublin- 3Olympia Theatre (September 27) However, after the cancellation of his Scotland shows, he won't be back on stage again until September, where he will perform in Liverpool, Sheffield, Southend, Buxton, Oxford, Belfast, Derry and Dublin, before he embarks on a tour of Australia. When previously explaining his decision to spend more time with his family, Rob told The Sun: 'I'll still do stand up and local clubs and charity gigs but I'm going to take a break from touring until the kids are 16/17. 'Then I'll do a big tour when they're sixth form and when they go to Uni, me and Lou are going to spend Feb and March in Australia bumming around.' The comedian also revealed that when he is 50, he wanted 'to do a psychology degree'. When revealing he was quitting his radio show, Rob said in a statement: 'I've had such a laugh each Sunday getting to know the listeners, but as my tour schedule hots up and my family forget what I look like, I've decided to step away from a weekly show.' More Trending However, the comedian also promised fans that he would return. He added: 'But you won't get away from me that easily as I'll be back presenting shows on Radio 2 later in the year when normal service is resumed!' Rob has been married to teacher Louise Watts since 2015. They share two daughters. Got a story? My husband and I have found our love language – it's called a screen divorce
Relationships are all about compromise, but there are some areas where it's simply impossible. Then it becomes about a mutually beneficial workaround instead. A poll has revealed that 55% of couples regularly argue over which TV show to watch: hot on the heels of the sleep divorce (different bedrooms) are we headed for the screen divorce (different tellies)? Don't mean to boast, but my husband and I are one step ahead of this trend – screen separated, if you will. In the Venn diagram of programmes we enjoy, the intersection is big enough to fit the words Taskmaster and The Traitors, and that's about it. He's tried to lure me into his televisual world, I've tried to tempt him into mine, but no dice. Eventually, we realised one of us was always watching through gritted teeth, while the other felt guilty. And so, just like the courageous pioneers of the sleep divorce, who made the decision to prioritise healthy rest above convention, we needed to take action. To divide and conquer. We're much more romantic than couples who sit in separate rooms for their viewing, though. Our love language? Headphones. We take it in turns to watch the TV out loud, or on the tablet with AirPods, but – crucially – we sit next to each other, on the same sofa. To the outside eye, it may appear that we're completely ignoring each other, him lost in a world of endless sport, or the YouTube adventures of an off-grid family building a yurt in the woods; me guiltily consuming Real Housewives franchises faster than broadcasters can announce them. But technically we're spending time together, so there. In fact maybe this is less screen divorce, and more like those who LAT (Live Apart Together)? We're WAT (Watching Apart Together), happily ever after.

Huge Garden Rescue twist as major stars go head-to-head in ‘summer spruce' up for popular daytime show
THE wholesome world of horticulture has always made for gentle TV viewing – until now, as I can reveal that the BBC has given Garden Rescue a competitive edge. Fan favourites Charlie Dimmock, Lee Burkhill, Chris Hull and Flo Headlam all return for series 11, later this year. 8 Garden Rescue crew Lee Burkhill, Flo Headlam and Joe Swift Credit: Supplied 8 One of Garden Rescue's fan favourites, Charlie Dimmock Credit: Supplied But in a new twist, they will go head-to-head with a string of fresh presenters in the ultimate backyard battle. Joining them for series 11 of the BBC One show are Diarmuid Gavin, Frances Tophill, Joe Swift and Sue Kent. In each episode, one of the original designers will pitch their vision to a homeowner who is desperate for a garden glow-up. Then one of the newcomers will offer a rival opinion, and just one idea will be taken forward. A source said: 'Garden Rescue is one of BBC Daytime's most popular slots so it deserved a summer spruce. 'The new twist means as well as the usual imaginative solutions, gardening hacks and advice, Garden Rescue will be brimming with friendly competitive banter. 'Plus the new experts bring with them new ideas, creativity and flair which all helps keep the show fresh as it heads into series 11.' The Garden Rescue cameras will also be revisiting past projects to see how homeowners have been using the their improved spaces. Caroline O'Neill of BBC Daytime said: 'It's great to have such well-loved and hugely respected gardeners joining the team. 'Each bring their creative flair to their unique designs, making for the best competitions yet.' Looks like an assault course!' gasp Garden Rescue fans as they sink claws into Charlie Dimmock's home transformation (main) For now, viewers can enjoy series 10 which is airing weekdays on BBC One at 3.45pm. Bend it like Kumar I'M no football expert, but I'd venture this clutch of comedians are proving that quick wit doesn't necessarily mean you're fast on your feet. Here's an exclusive first look at Comedians Taking Penalties, the new series from Graham Norton's So Television that's inspired by Soccer AM's star-spangled goal segment. 8 Nish Kumar took to the pitch in North London Credit: Click News and Media 8 Nish flexing his muscles for the camera Credit: Click News and Media 8 Olga Koch points to the back of her football shirt Credit: Click News and Media Nish Kumar flexed his pecs as he took to the pitch in north London last week alongside host Chloe Petts. It looks to be a load of laughs though - and football could certainly do with some of those. 8 Nicola and Rosie Dempsey look as though they're not playing quite the same sport as everyone else Credit: Click News and Media 8 Last One Laughing's Harriet Kemsley kept it cool Credit: Click News and Media 8 Mathew Baynton's moves look to be more Karate Kid than colossal kick Credit: Click News and Media TELLY prankster Oobah Butler will return to Channel 4 with a two documentaries.
