Vietnamese nationals among four charged with drug trafficking in Johor Bahru
JOHOR BAHRU: Four individuals, including two Vietnamese nationals, were charged in court today over drug trafficking and possession involving more than 13 kg of narcotics. The case, linked to a major drug bust by Johor police, could result in severe penalties, including the death sentence. The accused—Ching Hin Leong, 46, Tay Wei Bin, 36, Pham Thi Quy, 26, and Nong Thi Nhinh, 29—were jointly charged with trafficking MDMA powder (12,090 grams) and MDMA pills (375 grams). The offences allegedly took place at a condominium unit in R&F Tanjung Puteri on June 19. Under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, they face either the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 cane strokes if convicted. No plea was recorded as the case falls under High Court jurisdiction. In a separate proceeding, the same individuals were charged with possession of methamphetamine (7 grams), nimetazepam (520 grams), and ketamine (25 grams). These offences carry prison terms of up to five years and fines under Section 12(2) of the same act. Ching faced additional charges for trafficking 4,645 grams of MDMA and possessing ketamine (79 grams) and nimetazepam (28 grams). If found guilty, he could receive life imprisonment or the death penalty. The arrests followed a special operation by the Johor Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN), leading to the seizure of drugs worth nearly RM3 million. Four charged with possessing over 13kg of drugs in JB

JOHOR BARU: Two Malaysian men and two Vietnamese women have been charged at the Magistrate's Court here with distributing and possessing more than 13kg of drugs. Chin Hin Leong, 46, and Tay Wei Bin, 36, and Vietnamese Pham Thi Quy, 26, and Nong Thi Nhinh, 29, were jointly charged with the distribution of 12,090g of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) powder at an apartment on Jalan Tanjung Puteri 1 here at around noon on June 19. The four were also accused of distributing 375g of MDMA pills at the same time and place. Both charges were framed under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and are punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries a death sentence or lifetime imprisonment and up to 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. All four said they understood the charges, which were read to them in Mandarin before Magistrate A. Shaarmini on Thursday (July 3). However, no plea was recorded from all the accused as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Shaarmini said no bail was offered due to the non-bailable nature of offence and fixed Sept 3 for next mention and submission of chemical reports. In the second and third charges, they were accused of possessing 520g of nimetazepam and 25g of ketamine respectively at the same time and place. All three charges were framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Magistrate Nabilah Nizam set Sept 3 for next mention and submission of chemical reports. At the same proceedings, Chin was charged with the distribution of 4,645g of MDMA at another apartment in Jalan Bayu Puteri 1, Johor Baru at 3.10pm on June 19. He was also read a second and third charge for respectively possessing 79g of ketamine and 28g of nimetazepam at the same time and place. No plea was recorded from Chin and the court set Sept 4 for next mention and submission of chemical reports.
