Four Lionesses named in UEFA Team of the Euros as England heroes visit Downing Street

The Lionesses successfully defended their Euros crown as Sarina Wiegman's side defeated Spain on penalties in Switzerland and a number of the side have earned personal gongs Four Lionesses have been named in UEFA's Team of the Tournament following their latest Euros success. Sarina Wiegman 's side successfully defended their title on a memorable Sunday evening. ‌ They eventually beat reigning world champions Spain on penalties after a 1-1 draw following extra-time. And now, a quartet of England's star players have been named among the tournament's best performers. ‌ Lionesses goalkeeper Hannah Hampton proudly takes the goalkeeper's slot after a brilliant tournament - and final in which she saved two penalties. Speaking after the final, she dedicated victory to her grandad. ‌ "Two days before the biggest tournament of my life, you left," Hampton wrote on Instagram. "You taught me so much, not just about football, but about life. About staying grounded, working hard, being resilient and doing things the right way. "It breaks my heart that you didn't get to see me walk out for our country at my first major tournament... something you dreamed of for me, something we talked about so many times. But I know, deep down, you were still there. I felt you with me. In the tunnel. On the pitch. In the tough moments. I heard you in my head when I needed strength. "I hope I made you proud, Grandpa. I carried you through every minute. And I always will. I did it. WE DID IT." Lionesses legend Lucy Bronze - who played the entire tournament with a fractured tibia - is also included in the defence. She is joined by Irene Paredes, Elena Linari and Franziska Kett. England do not have any representation in midfield, with beaten finalists Spain dominating. Patri Guijarro, Aitani Bonmati and Alexia Putellas are all named in the side. ‌ But the Lionesses have even more names in the best-performing attackers of the tournament. Alessia Russo takes her place in attack after two goals and three assists across six appearances. She is joined in attack by Germany star Jule Brand. Finally, Lionesses hero Chloe Kelly rounds off the team after netting the winning penalty in the final. ‌ Speaking after her successful spot-kick, she said: "Tough times don't last. Just around the corner was a Champions League final and I won that. Now a Euros final and I won that. Thanks to everyone that wrote me off. I'm grateful." The Lionesses returned home on Monday and were met by thousands of cheering fans at Southend Airport, they then headed to 10 Downing Street for a reception with Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner ahead of a victory parade in London on Tuesday. QPR pip the competition to land Stellenbosch FC's Tylon Smith

Queens Park Rangers have signed 20-year-old Stellenbosch FC defender Tylon Smith, a standout player from South Africa's Under-20 Afcon-winning team, with permanent contract starting in their development squad. Picture: Queens Park Rangers Image: Queens Park Rangers Tylon Smith has completed a permanent transfer to Queens Park Rangers (QPR) from Stellenbosch FC, trading the vibrant fields of the Winelands for the bustling atmosphere of West London, marking a pivotal moment in his blossoming career. The 20-year-old defender's growth in the footballing world has been nothing short of meteoric over the past year. Just a year ago, Smith signed his first professional contract following a successful run with South Africa's U20 team, where he played a key role in lifting the COSAFA U20 Challenge Cup. His standout performance in the final against Zambia earned him the Player of the Match accolade and a place in the Team of the Tournament, signalling his potential on the international stage. Since then, Smith has only grown in stature, further enhancing his reputation in May with a pivotal role in South Africa's U20 Africa Cup of Nations victory. His contributions were instrumental enough to earn him the title of Player of the Tournament, underscoring the impact he has made early in his career. QPR's CEO, Christian Nourry, expressed enthusiasm about securing Smith's services, stating: 'We are happy to beat significant competition to land the services of Tylon. "His raw attributes give him every opportunity to become a successful central defender, and we are excited that the player feels, as we do, that we are best placed to develop and extract that potential from him. We will take it step by step.' Smith's transition to QPR will initially see him integrated into the development squad, where he will have the opportunity to hone his skills further within a club renowned for nurturing young talent. Expressing his excitement about the move, Smith remarked: 'I'm happy to be here. "I'm proud and grateful for the opportunity QPR have given me to showcase my talent. QPR is well known for developing young players. The style of play here is like how we play in South Africa, and it's a style that I like.' Rob Benadie, the CEO of Stellenbosch, described Smith's move as a monumental achievement, not only for the player but for the club as well. 'This is a very proud moment for everyone at the club, the town, and his family. We've watched Tylon grow from a young boy in Jamestown into a player ready to take on the world stage. "His move is a reward for years of hard work, not just from him, but from everyone involved in his development, and we hope it inspires the next generation to dream even bigger.' Notably, Smith's transfer represents a landmark achievement for Stellenbosch FC, as he becomes the first player to progress through the club's youth ranks — including Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, and reserve teams—before securing a move abroad. His journey to the UK serves as a compelling narrative of hard work and dedication, reflecting the bright future of South African football.

Real Madrid breakout star attract interest from Premier League

Gonzalo Garcia was one of the standout players in the recently concluded FIFA Club World Cup. The youngster scored as many as four goals, helping Real Madrid secure a semifinal spot in the competition. He was also the only Real Madrid player to be included in the Team of the Tournament. Advertisement Garcia's breakthrough has led to major speculation over his future, especially considering the fact that he was close to leaving the club before the Club World Cup. Premier League clubs interested in Garcia Although recent reports suggests Real Madrid have closed the door on Garcia's exit following his breakthrough at the Club World Cup, it appears the forward is attracting interest from Premier League. According to Mundo Deportivo, a host of Premier League clubs are keeping close tabs on Gonzalo Garcia's progress, hoping to lure him away from Santiago Bernabeu. Will Gonzalo Garcia remain at Real Madrid this summer? (Photo by) Advertisement Sunderland, Leeds United and West Ham United are among the clubs interested in the services of Garcia. All of these three clubs are determined to sign Garcia for next season. However, they are aware that striking a deal could be difficult as the forward is closer to staying at Real Madrid than leaving the club. Real Madrid, for their part, are yet to make a final decision over Garcia's future but that could come soon as the club look to draw a roadmap for the young forward. Real Madrid will be aware that giving Garcia regular game-time will be difficult, especially with Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo also fighting for places in the first-team. However, given Xabi Alonso's ability to nurture young talents, Los Blancos might just fancy keeping hold of the talented forward this summer.

Orlando Pirates snatch COSAFA star in stunning transfer coup

Orlando Pirates have officially snapped up rising star Kamogelo Sebelebele from TS Galaxy, bolstering their ranks ahead of a demanding 2025/2026 campaign. Sebelebele made headlines with a breakout season at TS Galaxy, notching five goals in 29 appearances and proving himself one of the league's most consistent performers. His dazzling form earned him a call-up to Bafana Bafana's COSAFA Cup squad, where he didn't disappoint, claiming a Man of the Match award, helping South Africa to a runners-up finish, and earning a spot in the Team of the Tournament. Although the Buccaneers are currently deep into their preseason tour in Marbella, Spain, Sebelebele will not immediately join the main squad abroad. 'Sebelebele will join the group of players who remained in Johannesburg while the selected first team group embarked on their preseason tour in Spain,' the club announced on Monday. This approach allows the 23-year-old Limpopo-born winger to integrate locally while Pirates fine-tune their systems overseas. Despite being a natural winger, Sebelebele showed impressive tactical flexibility at TS Galaxy last season. The club praised his ability to perform at right back and left back, making him a versatile asset for new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. 'While naturally a winger, the Limpopo-born star demonstrated his tactical adaptability last season by also excelling at both right back and left back, highlighting his versatility and dynamism he brings to Abdeslam Ouaddou's squad.' Sebelebele becomes Pirates' 10th new signing of the window, joining an exciting group that includes.
